How do we know DDO is a flop?

oakthornnoakthornn Member UncommonPosts: 863

Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach, has announced that they are currently running a 7 day free trial. Also on the DDO site, is a trailer for the first module, Dragon's Vault, so check out the link below..

How do u know when a MMO is a complete and disgusting flop?  Read the message above ROFL!!

They are running a 7 day free trial already and the game hasn't even been out a month yet haha..I played DDO in beta for a total of 4 hours before I realized how horrible the game is..I gave my honest opinion on all the con's the game had,but the fanbois kept defending their game.. I said theres no seamless world to explore,no crafting whatsoever, absolutely no freedom to do what u want,be what u want..The game has one objective and one objective only..Find NPC to give u quests,, "its the only way to advance in the game" anc complete the instances to go up inlevels and get exp...

I decided thats not for me and was very disappointed..I love D&D.I read all the dragonlance and Forgotten Realms books and I know how great the game could have been..But Turbine decided to go one particular route thinking this load of crap would be fun??  No,I'll tell you what we find fun... We want freedom to choose what kind of player we will be.We want a world to explore filled with numerous different types of monsters to slay to earn fame, wealth and fortune..We want to be able to pvp, craft, and meet thousands of ppl while out hunting, exploring new lands,or while at the local pub enjoying a drink.. We want to have siege warfare, take over teritories,etc.. We want to have the power and ability to choose our destiny and most importantly,do basically anything we want..  But u will not find that in DDO...The game is limited to doing one thing. And eventually even the fanbois will get bored of that...

Anyone who is playing DDO right now is only playing because they are bored of everything else out now.. This game will be completely dead in a few months..And back in november I tried warning ppl about this in hopes the devs would change the way the game is and give us more..But no one listened :(   Now look at your horrible game,lol..No one barely even plays it

Yes, and I've never understood the adolesncent minded fools who are infatuated with being forum whoreing flame bait trolls who do nothing but bash topics for the sake of attention.

If either of you are so damned smart why is your time spent trolling topics instead of designng games and acting as a consultant for game designers?

Don't be such an ass mindspat.  We have opinions just like everyone else, and you uptight fanboys can just bug off as far as I'm concerned.  If you love the game so much why don't you spend your time kissing up to your godly devs on the official forums instead of coming on here flaming people who have opinions you don't like.  Either way, you're just a jerk for coming on insulting people.

You're the one acting childish with your lame insults trying to make yourself seem better than other people.

I'd be willing to wager that a lot of the old DDO forum kobolds will be back for seven free days of watching the fanboys thrash about while proclaiming "All is well!" or saying "Go play WoW!" to those who are leaving.

Are you calling the kettle black?

I did not highlight anything that was contradictive.  An opinion is one thing, bashing and berating is another.  Like the bully on the school yard or the bratty kid telling their mother they hate them for buying the wrong name brand shoes, forum posting etique is not a skill possesed by many.

What's even more amazing is the level of ignorance expressed in ones baseless assumptions.

    Oh the irony.

The worst part about DDO is that the original NWN, that came out years ago, has a better online experience to offer, pluss there's no monthly fee.

To top it all off, NWN2 is coming out soon with better graphics, and more robust editor to make new online mods with, and again no monthly fee.

If you want an online DnD experience NWN is tons more fun, it offers a larger selection of classes and races, prestige classes, more item, armor, and weapon diversity by far, and a plethora of mulit and single player mods.

It's kind of mind boggling the way DDO turned out, given the scope of the DnD liscense.

Instead of focusing on translating the mechanics of PnP to an MMO, they should have concentrated on translating the features, like: Player housing and castles, in-depth character customization, changing and growing characters, solo and group content, PvP in some form or another, mounts and mounted combat, politics and socially driven content.

The developers of that game completely and totally missed all the stuff that makes PnP DnD so awesome and ended up crippling their game by adhering so strictly to the mechanics and that god awful instancing system.

I for one am sick of public instancing and raid mentality type gaming. It would be one thing if it took 40 people to kill a huge boss or arche villian, but having to go through a 4-5 hour dungeon just to get there is obscenely tedious, way too time consuming, and suprisingly not much fun, but that's a whole other game in itself that's being run into the ground.

actually they both make very good points that I happen to agree with.  I played the DDO beta and posted NUMEROUS warnings to the devs about the lack of a world to explore.  The lack of ability to do anything but quest.  The forced grouping, etc.

    They ignored it.

Why am I not out designing games?  Why that's simple.  Because I already make more than those idiots supporting a 500,000+ user network.

I'm not going to say it's a flop but it will not surprise me at all if it is.  I'm sorry.  Turbine just isn't very good at making MMO's.  AC was their crowning achievement.  A game that maxed out at about 120k players and currently has barely 50k.  Their other title, AC2, was cancelled because it was a financial drain on the company.

The ddo.com forums is a fun place, allthough as I am only a measly european ddo player, ( or was ), I do not have access to post on them, but anyone can read, and it is hillarious.

The only MMO that I know of were the fanbois come of as the stupid party instead of the whiners.

These people are so gullible and rabid I really wish I could meet them in real life, I bet I could sell the golden gate bridge to any one of them, twice.

There are a lot of "i Quit" or "fix this please" threads and most, not all obviously, are for the most part constructive and well formed, only to be met by an array of "Can I have your stuff", "go play wow" and whatnot, you rarely see an intelligent post in defence of DDO.

Strange turn of events and not seen this on any other MMO boards to this extent, can not explain it but perhaps there are a lot of people new to the MMO genre, perhaps it is an age thing, that would surely sink the "Mature players are wiser" ship for good.

This is the sole reason I think DDO will actually survive, stupidly loyal customers is any companies wet dream, and they sure are both stupid and loyal.

It really does not have anything else, but questing and devout fans, the questing is pretty ok and it is fun while you are doing that, but there just is NOTHING else to do, for being a "fast paced action mmorpg" it sure has more down time then any other.
