I think we've all been there. You're staring down a boss when all of a sudden he/she whips out THAT spell. Yes, THAT one. Now, the word "that" could be replaced by pretty much any spell depending on who you're talking to, but today I'm listing the top 5 spells that I personally dread seeing. Here we go!

I personally think it's cool that the folks on this site play as many games as they do. :) This almost made me want to play this one.

In addition to the above 5 I would like to add mermaids and beguile.

So how do you all counter those spells when you see a boss  or monster cast them? Are you just sort of screwed or can you slot gear for certain resistances and defenses?
It varies from spell to spell. Stuns can be blocked with a certain spell. Debuffs on yourself can either be dispelled (if you have the correct spell), or often you can use a 0-pip attack spell (costs one turn but no resources) that's correct element to trigger the debuff and thus consume it but not trigger buffs meant for your own attack spells so that those aren't consumed.

For spells that deal a lot of damage to you you can either use debuffs to mitigate it, or try to have enough healing. For spells that heal your opponent a lot you can either use debuffs, or try to stun the healer, or try to make large enough damage spike that your opponent can't react.

There's not any single miracle solution, you and your team just need to play well enough.

EDIT: There is some gear with resistance, but those aren't really a solution in Wizard 101. You can edit your deck before a strong opponent if you know it's going to need specific spells.
