    I’m more interested in hearing impressions sixty days from now after everyone has played the hell out of it and all the cracks have appeared. Those will be the “real” reviews.

    Never was a fan of this “RAH RAH BESTEST GAME EVAR!” crap you always hear on day one.
    Some people know themselves. They don't have to sit around twiddling their thumbs not knowing how they feel or what they should think.

    I"m like Constantine M, I can within a good 10 to 15 minutes know if I like a game or not. Now, a game can change over its play (Looking at you Quake 2) but I've rarely played a game that I loved in the first 15 minutes and then stopped playing in the next hour or two.

    Seen a couple of videos with people playing this one and I must admit it didn't impress me much. I would rather opt for Dauntless if I was going to pick up one of these types of games as the combat looks to be better.

    For me the combat in this looked clunky and according to beta impressions other than the last monster the rest of them were way too easy to fight. Will hold off and see if my opinion changes when I watch videos of people playing the full release rather than beta version.

    I'd have to say I agree with you.  The videos I've watched thus far showcase slow, clunky movement, and the hit detection looks downright horrible.  Now I understand those weren't "full release" versions we've seen thus far, but boy the base game just looks slow.  Lots of running in circles, waiting for I'm not sure what.

    I know, I know, I'm a pariah or Communist (or both) for not being impressed.  I just couldn't get excited watching characters run around in circles, hacking at monsters and missing most of the time, even when the weapon appeared to clearly make contact.  Here's hoping the rest of you have fun with it, I think this is one I'll skip and not lose any sleep over lmao

    While I enjoyed past versions of the game I found that when I tried this on the PS4 none of the weapon choices clicked with me for some reason. Will probably pass on this one myself.

    lol Are you sure you don't have that backwards? Having played both I feel I can say that Dauntless is the definition of "clunk". I thought Dauntless had some good potential till I played the MHW beta... now I'm not even sure if I'll play Dauntless when it releases.

    @Wellspring, @berlight PC version comes this fall, no exact dates yet. Probably December since every time they give a vague date it tends to be near the end.

    I love MH but I get what you are saying. But, and this sounds like a cliche, you need to play it. Watching someone play Datk Souls looks boring too but when you play it...

    Every move or attack has weight, reach, timing and meaning. Preparation is everything. I play both MH and Dauntless and I feel sorry for the latter, MH stomps all over it.

    You do need to like the genre though, its not really an action game or an RPG, its a hunting game.

    It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

    I am watching a twitch of it while my kid has been trying to go to sleep for 1.5 hours and crying all the time. Nonetheless, not impressed with it. Then again, I never played any of them and Im judging it by its covers. I also have very few friends who play games, and if they did, i'd never have time to play it. 

    I'll see how it goes, but I very rarely get hyped for games, mainly because I just know I won't have time to really play a game to get into it.

    Character creation was nice, not Black Desert nice, but better than most games. You get to customize your character and your @Kyleran (they're called Palico in this game).

    Story is your regular Monster Hunter stuff, you're sent to the new world named Asteria where Elder Dragons gather every decade or so. So far I am very happy with the size of them dragons!

    Combat is freaking awesome. I don't think I have ever played a game with better combat. Each weapon has its own mechanic and they are vastly different to each other. I must emphasize, vastly different!

    Taking gear + weapon does make you a tank, literally. You feel the weight of weapons and your gear. You'd move slower and differently. Instead of rolling around your dodging changes into sidestepping. 

    Range weapons really well. There are different types of ammo, and there's coating. 

    I haven't played much yet, but I can see there's a lot of crafting, I'll update my PC master race soon! :)

    Well mate If a game gives me 60 days of fun then it is money well spent. And I can confidently say after 4 decades of gaming I can know if I like a game in the first 10mins or not. It is not bestest game evar, but it is more than alright.

    Gross,  no wonder you own a PS4.

    When it comes out for the PC plus about 2 yrs (when it's discounted on Steam) I'll give it a go.

    Bugs, balance issues, sustainability, etc. Those are the cracks I'm talking about.

    No one can diagnose those types of issues in 10 minutes of gameplay and anyone who says they can is a liar.

    You're right, those kinds of things take time to rear their head(s) and are not immediately apparent.  And unfortunately, I have experienced game-breaking bugs that don't surface until you are far into the game, thus wasting countless hours. 

    But, as Sovrath and Constantine said, when you've been gaming a long time, you get a solid sense of what you like and don't like.  I can tell you in 10-15 minutes whether I'm even going to stick with a game long enough to start worrying about the cracks you mentioned, lol.  It doesn't take very long to determine whether a game's core systems are going to fit you or not.  If I have to fight with a game out of the box, or struggle to perform basic tasks due to bad UI, or what have you, at that point I'm pretty much done.  Most games show you what they're really all about in a very short time, if you keep your eyes open.

    But yeah, as far as sustainability goes, you are right, it takes time to figure that out.  I suppose you do as I do:  hope the first 15-20 minutes are smooth, settle in, and pray to God that you don't encounter anything that ruins the game later on.

    I'd rather let other people beta test games for me. It also gives me a chuckle to hear players utter the "BESTEST GAME EVAR" rally cry only to see the same people rage quitting thirty days later.  Saves me from throwing away money. Let's face it, most games are beta quality at launch anyway and it's nice to know the community has enough canaries to test all the coal mines while I enjoy myself elsewhere.

    From what I understand, it has various large biomes (like the Coral Highlands) which each have two modes - timed and exploration. The impression I've gotten is that it's essentially large instanced, non-linear zones. Perhaps someone with more knowledge on the subject could correct me.
