Without a doubt, World versus World is one of the least updated aspects of Guild Wars 2. Which is why when Arenanet announced yesterday that they were working on a massive overhaul to the server and population balancing systems of WvW, players went into a hype frenzy! This system will take several months to develop, with no ETA as of yet, but is promising to be the biggest change that WvW has ever received.

In WvW this was already inferior as your server was always matched against other servers, so you never really got to know your enemy. And now they also destroy the server WvW community ? Who cares to fight with mostly random people against other totally random people ?
WvW should be about guilds vs other guilds. I think these change will represent that well enough while still retaining that open world feel. My only worry is that, with these changes I hope world vs world doesn't completely turn into a karma farming/ rank farming game mode. It should always be about the pvp first.
If there was any sort of actual reward for winning WvW or some rewards based on points, it would have lasted so much longer than it did. No matter what you do, people are what ruins whatever system you put in place b/c they want an edge, not looking for an even fight.
Is this what Arena.net calls EFFORT ?
This is nothing more than saying we are going to make some VERY small changes to pvp to keep people interested in our game because we likely have something to sell by that time.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
You can see where their Guild Wars 1 experience influenced the game, as it functions very well with small coordinated teams, but in attempting to make a large scale MMO, Arenanet entered into territory they weren't prepared for. In pve, this doesn't tend to matter much, because a majority of play in most MMOs tends to be with 5 or less players, but there is simply no stable foundation for RvR PvP.
First: I feel that something like this should have been done when they moved to PvE Mega-Server, leaving WvW server based when the rest of the game was not, really hurt WvW over the years. So in that front, I feel that this, is very late in coming.
Secondly: I have no idea how this will really pan out, it could be great, it could suck, and given how poorly some of their other things went, I am in a very tentative "wait and see" mode, with this.
To have truly massive scaled combat done right you need formations, officers and a general that can deal out tactical objectives, and you need mechanics to help with that built in.
Certainly do a good comander help in GW2 but just like in any other MMO combat usually just turn into a huge zerg following that comander.
I have mixed feeling about breaking up the servers but I guess there wasn't much choice when about 5 of the servers have all the fun. It is a start but the game need actual massive combat mechanics as well.
Also, I think they should have different particle effects in WvW then PvE. What looks cool when you are 5 people gets very annoying when there are a 100 people...

A bit late but good anyway.
I'll probably go back and try it out once it goes live.
..Cake..
Yet another nail in the coffin for individual server identities in MMO's
Maybe they will do something else to honor him.
This will only be happening in The Mists, you won't be ganked anywhere in the open world.
The beauty of the BTP model is that those of you who want to give WvW another go after these changes is that it won't cost you anything except the download if you uninstalled.
