Why grind after hitting level 56?

MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196
I hear a lot of people complain about the brutal grind in Black Desert Online. Going from 1-56 to get awakened is easy so the real grind must be 56+. My question is why even keep grinding at 56?

I have been level 56 on my Musa for months now and have not done any real grinding since. Sure I go out and kill for fun sometimes just to practice my skills but I am not grinding xp for hours.

Now I am getting more into the Life Skill side of things.

I recently started investing in Nodes to try and create a network. Also just started looking into the trade aspect of the game which I am finding very interesting. I bought 1 item from a Trade NPC at 1 node for $4,650 Silver and sold it to another NPC at another node for $6,500. Sure its not a lot but it felt good knowing I had just made a profit. Now I am all in on trying to learn about Nodes and Trading. I have never done any kind of crafting or hiring workers so all of this will be new to me.

Getting a level 56 Awakened character was a goal because I wanted my Musa to get his awakened weapon. I had something to look forward to.. I have 0 interest in getting level 57 because there is nothing to look forward to.

My focus now is silver, not xp. I want to learn how to make money and lots of it.

I do have 1 question.

If I am level 56 with good gear do I stand a chance in pvp against a level 57-60?

My warrior is almost level 58. I grind with him occasionally and only while the 200% xp buff is active. I'm mainly doing it because you get higher ranks of your awakening skills as you level so you have more damage output. But I mainly focus on my wizard who is my perma level 49 life-skilling character.

Because from a PvE perspective that is literally all there is to do.

If you're into the economy sim stuff then you're golden.  If not?  /yawn

Your login to a game designed to solo,so what's the point.
Poster mentions levels only when using a buff, really makes it sound like leveling and your character/combat is not fun at all but entirely a push to do nothing more than attain a level.

These are the exact reasons i no longer get into same old rpg's,the original adventure was cool but now i need an actual mmo+rpg and a world that is plausibly real to support it.By plausible real i mean like housing, you know where do we live when not out fighting stuff.Eating, drinking, crafting, exploring, talking to npc's because that is what people do,they talk to other people.

Mmorpg's have become so shallow minded in their design,i struggle to give any of them even a passing grade so when i see any score over 6 ,i cringe that someone is giving scores for all the wrong reasons and NOT being honest about game design.
I saw how bad BDO's design was in the first 2 days, really in the first day,it didn't take me long,i saw just a mess of mechanics and a sloppy game design just tossed together and sold itself on graphics first and the game second.
Whomever designed the class animations and combat designs ,should never make another game for the rest of their life, they look dumb and play dumb, overall terribly done.If their agenda was to make the characters and combat look silly, they did a good job of it,if their goal was to completely ruin immersion, they did a masterful job of it.

Sometimes i just suck it up,a bad game,no problem no quite what i was looking for ,however with BDO i literally wanted my money back,i felt ripped off.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

PVE is all I have done since I started playing.

I found a nice little spot all to my self in exploring Kamasylvia last night so added it to my list of grind spots.

Any quest npc that offers exclusive items if I grind some tokens for them is something I like to do and have been looking for a guide that shows me where I can find all of these types of npcs in game..

I do the quest for the boss scrolls. Just now doing the one  where I have to collect 5 scrolls to summon the boss.

Grinding for levels is what I am asking

None of the PVE stuff requires me to level higher. No gear is locked behind levels.

In a game like Lineage 2 you had to get certain levels to wear certain sets of gear. You had to level up to get gear to be able to kill tougher mobs.

The combat is very fun. But since quests don't give character xp for the most part, you have to grind if you want to level. And past a certain point, xp slows down drastically. So leveling without any xp buffs is extremely inefficient.

Because 60 is the new soft cap?

And the Awakening skills make a huge difference if you don't have everything max don't bother doing PVP.

If just PVE and being a care-bear it doesn't matter but no one wants you in a PVP guild if your not gonna bother to gear yourself.

No, you're going to get annihilated. Every level several of your abilities go up in damage by significant amounts and you unlock a new flow skill for a different ability every level.

    Example:
    level 56 Voltaic Pulse 657% * 7 hits
    level 60 Voltaic Pulse 954% * 7 hits + Flow: Voltaic Tet 917% * 5 hits

You don't have to beat your face against the grind to level though. You can do your +200% XP grinding hour, especially on the weekends, on a bell channel and you will gain levels at a respectable pace. The XP needed to level to 60 has been reduced several times, and as they keep raising the level of content in the game the soft cap will probably go up and it will be even easier to reach 60.

    Thank you @Renoaku and @Caffynated ;:)

I joined a PVP guild but I am going to drop soon. I want more of a PVE / Life Skill focused guild that every now and then might do some PVP.

I enjoy combat and find "fighting lots of monsters" sort of relaxing. Also, I like the combat system though there are way too many light show effects for my taste.

In truth I don't really do some of the other activities in the game because I don't like the crafting, don't want to raise horses or do trade runs.

I actually find the fishing relaxing so I can do that.

haven't played lately because there is this weird issue with their downloader in that it disconnects after a short period of time. Can't leave it on while I go to work as I come back and it's disconnected after 120 mb or so.

I've been enjoying this game as of late, free 7 day trial, and just hit 20th.

Combat is really dynamic, with lots to do and lots of ways to do it, a fun break from the typical MMO where I have to hit a dozen buttons, it all about combo-buttons.

Can't wait to look into things that are not all about killing, but.. the killing is fun for now.

I find BDO is great for a mix of things. I find if I stick with one thing, it gets kinda boring. But luckily unlike a lot of themepark MMOs...there is a ton of variety to do. Grind combat (which is a lot of fun, but even 100% combat gets boring to me. A lot of MMOs focus only on combat and make crafting gimped), trade routes with wagons, crafting, gathering, farming, fishing...so much to do.

I guess people who level past 56 either really grinded for it, or played a while and do a mix of things like I personally do.

For me however...the most fun is money. I want all the money. That is the game for me, like it is most games actually, is getting the most money I possibly can lol. That was my whole goal in Skyrim as well, to be the richest 1% of skyrim without using consoles or cheats :P Luckily everything not combat related in BDO also makes nice money :)

Well, I personally just do my own thing. But, this guide popped up on BDO subreddit a couple days ago and looks really good. I might try some of the things it suggests, cause he links to other guides as well. So I'll link it instead of making a huge TLDR post lol, since it looks as good as any.

Another thing to consider, when you reach level 58, the Kamasylvia quest line opens up. I just started doing it on my warrior and it's pretty good for CP. Some of the quests give from 300 to 500 CP experience. I've already gained around 5 CP just from doing a bunch of the quests. The zone looks really cool too.

Ok.. well.. I have come to conclude this whole "energy" system in BDO sucks..

On the positive side, I was able to collect enough Req screwing around in Eternal Crusade, to buy 2 more loot Boxes, and 3 guns and a new sword... yah.. BDO is great,

A good way to enjoy the grind, is to not just do it for the levelling.  Considering how long it takes to level up after a certain level, think about all the loot you're getting in the meantime.  Even if it's only low value stuff, considering you're grinding so much you can eventually sell it all for a large amount.  So sorta treat it as a way of making money, and think of the levelling as secondary.

    My 2 cents anyway.
