Yeah there are some serious omissions including:

    * Dark Age of Camelot - one of the earlier large scale games with great customization. Combat was very tough and rewarding.

    * Dungeons & Dragons Online - one of the oldest surviving, unique, and open ended games. You can build incredible Multi-class combinations and combat doesn't auto hit like in WoW!

    * Lord of the Rings Online - Pretty incredible side story tied into the actual books. Super tough in areas, gorgeous non-cartoony environments.

    * Neverwinter Nights - while it was very limited by players, 32 I believe, giving average Joes the ability to create their own massive persistent game worlds was huge. If you get bored, you find a new server, roll a character up, and then explore and try to survive a new world. Plus it used the infamous 3.5e of D&D rules, and an Enhanced Edition is being worked on currently.

Even the WOW Developers have stated they based it off of EQ. Prior to it's release people said a subscription based game would not work. When EQ launch far fewer people even had a PC when compared to when WoW launched.

Magic is impressive, but now Minsc leads! Swords for everyone!

If the "first modern decade" requirement was ignored, I do wonder whether LotRO would have been included.

On the surface, it does appear to be a "wow clone", but it was one of the first MMOs that really focused on strong story telling and eventually made it the primary focus of the whole game. Considering how many MMORPGs have followed in it's footsteps with a primary focus on story, I wonder whether that justifies a space? Or is LotROs story simply better than what came before and it's just a natural extension of the quest grind from EQ and WoW?
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman

How do you skip over Everquest like that?

Did you read where he said, "If you gotten the sense that I put a high value on breaking new ground." Then that answers your question. I never liked "The Free Zone." I blame Richard Aihoshi for this Play 4 Free mentality that has taken over gaming. No, you can't play for free, just like there is no Free Lunch! Everyone has to pay! Else it's stealing, and I hope this site is not promoting theft of service?

    Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven
Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.
