I enjoy playing online, but just because I do, it doesn't mean that I want to play with others all the time. I enjoy the feeling of having real people around me in a game, it makes the game feel alive. And it also sucks you into the world since you have a reputation and a character to enjoy roleplaying, which you might think is very boring in a solo-game...
When I look for MMORG's I look for specific feeling that are delivered when you are playing the game. Those could be: (In no specific order)
(1) Lethality = That everything feels lethal! Watch your every step, that is why I hate levels so much. They simple tell you what can kill you and restrict dangers since things are becoming worthless due to being to low level.
I enjoy seeing damage, I do not enjoy battles which takes ages, a hit should feel no matter what.
(2) Flexibility = Even though I am a magician doesn't mean I have to wear stupid cotton clothes and stand far away behind the tanks and heal. If I want to I should be able to dual-wield swords and katanas and so on. That is why I enojoy games where you - yourself - set points into what your character can and cannot do (Examples: Pre-CU SWG and Oblivion)
(3) Character! = This might be the top thing on my list! That everything feels special. That a mob just doesn't stand in front of you like a stupid rabies infected moron and hitting you, but that the mobs might have special attacks that no other mobs has and that they habitat at spots which might seem natural to them. And that they don't spawn right after killed making them just feel like they were made to be killed over and over...
Character is also important in the enviourments. When entering a land it is important to me that it feels unique.
(4) Relax = It is important to be able to relax in the game, even though it might be super combat oriented it HAS to be something in between that can relax you when you have had enough of the action for the moment. This could be; Crafting, roleplaying, exploring, decorating houses and so on.
(5) Maturity = Hard to describe but I don't want the game to path me, I want to have my own compass! I don't want it to be that everybody tells you "Oh first go to person X do quest Y and then move on to person A and do quest B". Everybody should have it optional to progress.
It should not be easy-reached, many advanced options and examplewise crafting a weapon should not be "find X amounts of iron and Y amounts of wood" then click and it pops up a weapon, but a more time demanding process which takes more out of yourself so that you can craft differently from everyone else.
---
So to sum it up, my perfect one is a game with timeless worlds and with endless character customization, no really set classes, only you can be yourself and with lots of character. Also much relaxing elements when you are tired or just tired of action for the moment, but when the battle really strikes, it feels and it's ultra agile and fast (not too fast of course). And of course, a mature game, which means that YOU play the game and find your own way.
Any game I am looking forward to? Yes, Darkfall for I've heard about it's unique character customizating elements, and Vanguard, for being a game not ment for carebears. Do you believe any of those would to to me maby?

Oh yes, the music. If the music is good and fits the game it gives the game a general "character" which you feel entangled in. You sink deeper into the experience with music that is there to guide you.
But if that isn't a case I use to have my own music to the game. Maby not so good when looking for a nice feeling but it works sometimes. Especially in PvP, some rock is never wrong then

hen i first started out with creating it, i did the same thing you did.. wrote up a list of what I wanted.. and what I wanted to do in a game... I'm a mdoerately big nerd, so, i hope my ideas appeal to those who enjoy a life outside from the life they have to live...
Mostly though, i found a lot of appeal in relaxing... battle is great and all, but a break from the grind is very much a needed thing. So a massive array of relaxing things that are incredibly expansive - mingames so to speak, are always a wonderful thing..

Ryzom has #2, 3, 4, and 5, and maybe #1 but I'm not quite sure what you meant by it.
Anyway, details I look for in an MMORPG...hmm...
- Good character graphics, animation, and customization. I hate watching a poorly-modelled character stiffly hop across the ground, and I hate choosing from three body types and ten head types. I adore the extent of customization that Ryzom, DDO, CoV, and Uru have. Ryzom's characters are also excellent examples of smooth, natural animation, and the Zora

1) Is it fun
2) If there's a monthly fee is it fun enough to justify the monthly fee
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

Still in: A couple Betas
2.) How well designed the UI is and can I mod it. I can't stand playing a MMORPG with a clunky UI that can't be modded or has limited modding options.
3.) Ability to easily group with people and find people to group with.
4.) Game play mechnics like leveling system/talent point systems.
5.) Evenly setup a game is for PvE vs PvP if any.
I can think of some more but I'll let others have some fun.

Yes, creating a free trial account requires credit card information. But such is the case with most MMORPG trials. Ryzom is totally worth it. The trial is 7 days long. Please remember to leave the starting island as soon as you're comfortable with the interface.

Actually theres a paypal option now too I believe, you don't need credit card details. You need to put in some payment details so they can ensure its a genuine account and not one purpose built to mess around and scrap post-trial. You can cancel before the end of the trial and you won't get charged at all. Its worth a go, tho if you don't want to put in CC details, use the pay by cash option.
