I like how after five years they've only just now started with just this preliminary "simplified implementation" of their network tech where they still "will need to deliver several key pieces of technology".

So it took us five+ years to get to a point where they are just now looking at their still undelivered pieces of technology needed to make a simplified implementation of their network which isn't even going to be the final version.

Those jokes about people having to will their ships to their next of kin before this game comes out will become actual reality at this rate.

Network bind Culling for 3.1 patch at end of March, baring any problems.

This work aims to help improve performance in multiplayer by cutting down the number of entities that exist on clients. Entities too far from a player will be removed from the local client, and when the player moves or the server otherwise detects new entities entering the player's range they will be added to the client. Because clients will then only consider updating entities that are near to them the overall CPU load will be reduced and performance should improve.

Network Entity Streaming  for 3.3 patch at the end of September, baring any problems.

Restructuring how the network code handles entity spawning and binding to allow for asynchronous streaming.

Object Container Streaming  for 3.3 patch at the end of September, baring any problems.

At its core, Object Container Streaming allows Star Citizen to create our Universe. We will no longer be restrained by the physical memory on your PC and will be able to stream in new environments, locations and ships seamlessly as you approach. This will also be one of the biggest wins for increased performance as your graphics memory will no longer be overloaded.

Parallel Network Jobs  for  3.4 patch at the end of December, baring any problems.

Moving packet receive processing into the job system so that the server can handle a greater number of connections. This system should allow the game to increase player count per server beyond the limitations of the current tech.

Now as far as this tread, response  the OP is trying to show as feature loss and game downsizing.
Was in an answer to the following question:

    Yorokobiy@Yorokobiy

What will be the extent of the first pass on the server meshing planned for 3.4 ?

    discussion
    February 5th at 05:17 pm

Is the tech gonna be working completly + further improvements or is it gonna be more of a test before the proper tech ?

    Way to misrepresent.

I’ll be surprised if they get even half of that done by December 2018
We're already reaching the first quarter of 2018 and end of March so we can soon see just how 3.1 and step one with the "network culling" is going to turn out or be delayed.  Time sure flies.  :open_mouth:

Pretty sure the network culling has been delayed in one form or another for a while now but I'm sure someone will correct me

Yea, the developer stated that "the code will most likely have to undergo some changes" as they make their network tech.  Considering that the network is the very foundation when it comes to an online game, that's an amazingly huge understatement.  ...like nearly every other projection or plan they've ever made (that 2018 roadmap mostly happening in 2018?  Probably not)

On another note, and in an attempt to try and get back on topic.. Personally I never believed for a second that this game would be able to support even close to a hundred "on grid" or instance, whatever you wanna call it, let alone a thousand... or thousands.
The game already supports 50 per instance, and as it is known the servers are capable the problem that overwhelms performance so much lies on the client being overwhelmed by updates (the lack of culling), and the needed streaming tech that is a fundamental optimization to handle its scale better.

So let's say Stanton gets done, even if 50 per instance remain, all Stanton needs is being split in 20 areas with their own server that it would allow up to 1000 people in that solar system.

So it's not as far-fetched as you seem to think.

The only counter is if too many people try to go to the same place, GW2, for example, solved that by adding temporary overflow instances.
Everyone talks about the game supporting 50 per server, not per instance. If it is per instance, how many instances can they run on a server?

    CIG/Star Citizen can't:

    - Make big maps for a space-sim with CryEngine. (2013-2014-2015)
    - Survive this year (2015/16/17/18)
    -
    Integrate Dogfighting-FPS-EVA gameplay seamlessly. (2015)
    - Make Star Marine module. (2016)
    -
Make seamless landings on procedural planets in CryEngine. (2017)
    - Make the Capital ship's work (idris-squadron42). (2017)
    - Make the performance capture work ingame (squadron42). (2017)

    - Make networking improvements to connect multiple servers and clients in the same game session (2018)

    New Year New FUD :D

C'mon people step it up, we're almost at 179$Million. B)

I see when I show his misinformation about region-locks he just sweeps it away under the rug instead of addressing it as what was said doesn't mean what he wants it to mean, just like Excession.

It's unfortunate to see posters shielding anything that paints the game under bad light independent of it being wrong or not, as long it's negative it must be true, the "evil fans" I tell ya.

Yes it is game-server, in SC the instance would already be multiple game-servers.

On a more serious note. So they're now starting to work on the network tech, that really is laughable.

Someone actually got what i was saying in my OP. Thank you!
Someone actually missed that they are working on it for years now.

Someone actually missed that the devs here speak about the first iteration in an Alpha version. That this is NOT the final version. But everyone hears what (s)he wants to hear.

@Nyctelios That's like you asking what drives someone to create up to 5 accounts over almost half a year just to continue naysaying SC in this forum.

But that is exactly the thing, I think it's about control, on the narrative that is the supported one (anyone who has anything negative to say on SC), what keeps it going is those who counter that narrative with the opposite.

Is that why you modified all your bashing, harassing and desperate attempts at backpedaling posts and now linking to just one post?

Every post on pages 1 and 2 (possibly more i got bored checking)

How did you delete the below post so quickly when no one here can delete posts?

How did i manipulate what he actually said?

lol. I merged all into one post with the main points instead of that drag.

Desperately digging you are, call me pointing you the misleading bits and your misinformation as harassment and bashing all you want, I stand by what I said.

You bold the part "sweeps it under the rug", when you conveniently do so AGAIN by not addressing that point, oh dear. :D

Let me get this strait, you feel that the networking should have been done first correct, or am I misunderstanding?
    If not.
How are going to test it then?  give complete plan.
Are you even going to test it?  explain why not if skipping testing.
What will the data tell you?  give detailed diagnosis.

Feel free to check, i deleted my mmorpg account. Ask the moderators if you need. For some reason you can;t delete the forum account. *shrug*

There was nothing worth deleting in his post for the "moderati" to do so.

I doubt he reported his own posts and the mods deleted it within a few minutes. But i am not interested in getting in an argument with you about this.

Occam's razor: He deleted it because it was embarrassing or he knows a "moderati" that did it for him.

Of cause the networking should be done first, just like the basic game mechanics such as mining, trading and economy. All these can run on whitebox versions and be simulated with thousands of clients to test. This is how professional developers do it.

There was a really good video from Activision Blizzard about Overwatch. They basically started with one character to get the feeling of the combat, physics and movement right. Then they started adding all the fluff.

I don't think anyone in the games industry would tell you otherwise.

Continue to dodge the words you manipulated in my other argument, by obsessing with this bit it doesn't make you any less wrong.
