Translation:
Dearest Sirs, I have noticed that there is a game in development carrying the project name W.A.R. I have not read too much about it, so I was hoping you people could give me some information as I consider buying it.
By the way, is there someone here who plays Dawn of War for the PC, I think it is a great game. Which race is your favorite in it?
Love.
Brother-hood
Ps. I've added fictional races to the poll so that it's not only pointless but also invalid.
Thank you for your time.
aye.. tyranids are sadly not playable in the official Dawn of War game nor the expansion. There was a mod in the work for them, but is in no way official stuff
As for WAR, you can start at www.warhammeralliance.com
check their "war of previews" feature. they also have a dev tracker with loads of dev posts.
Also check http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setview/features/loadFeature/552/gameID/239
biggest preview eva.
By reading all that stuff you will be up to date on what we know.
Here a little summary for the lazy:
- RvR centric game
- No visible levels (and possibly no levels at all), but visible "upgrades" of characters, the stronger you are, the bigger you become or the more skulls/medals/whatever you have on your armor/person
- Combat system structured in 3 levels, Tactics, normal combat and morale.
- 3-5 classes per race, each class has a distinct skill-tree you can invest into. you can rise 3 skills at a time and when you are done with one you can shoose another, either an advanced version of what you just took or something else entirely. There will be some overlaps of skills between classes, but most will be unique to each class. Supposedly you will have a limit on skill points, like in UO or SWG pre-NGE.
-6 races divided in 2 factions: Human (Empire), High Elves and Dwarves for Order; Dark elves, Greenskins (orcs&Goblins) and Norse (Chaos) for Chaos.
- Each race can travel to the allies places but is also directly in conflict, from the get-go with an enemy. the couplets are: Dwarves Vs Orks&Goblins. High Elves Vs Dark Elves and Empire Vs Chaos.
- 4 types of PvE Quests: Public, Competitive, Branching and Christmas
- 4 types of PvP: Skirmish, battlefield, scenarios, campaign. possibility to eventually sack and raze the enemy capital.
- mounts, different for each race.
- 11 zones for each couplets, total of 33 zones.
- there will be crafting, but will be limited to warfare activities, so you probably won't be able to craft dolls.
- Magic system still under the wraps.
- Graphic style is very warhammerish, tabletop. It is not realistic, but more cartoonish. Darker than WoW it seems.
I prolly forgot something, but this should give you a good idea of what it is.
Have a nice day
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
And do you have any idea if there will be mounted combat in the game?
