Depends if you are looking for some serious fun for a short amount of time, or a strong sense of accomplishment that is hella hard to achieve. The games are really opposite of one another. WoW has really no grind, while FFXI could operate under the title Grind. If you want easy, go with WoW. If you want hard, go with FFXI.
If your time is unlimited and you speak Japanese, FFXI is great. Otherwise, you have to give up your life to play it. Like all asian MMORPG the grind is tremendous. But if you love it, you love it.
It depends completely on what you like, as they are completely different games.
I personally like both and enjoy alternating between playing them.
WoW is good for its' ease of play, you log in and can level up a couple times in one night, solo at that. Being easy isn't a bad thing of course, it's nice to play a game and get things accomplished straight away. PvP is also better in WoW, mainly because in FFXI PvP was a mere afterthought. If you don't like PvP, WoW has PvE and RP servers and you don't have to worry about it. Crafting is also completely different, whereas in FFXI it takes almost as long as leveling a job....in WoW if you have the gold, you can max a crafting skill in a couple days.
So I don't think you can say if either one is better cause it's comparing 2 completely different games. WoW is better if you like PvP and easier gameplay. FFXI is better if you enjoy partying and tons of content. Only in my opinion of course.
Also something worth noting. With WoW if you want to do another job, you make a new character. However you don't get charged for each character like with FFXI.
FFXI is a very contrived feeling game. There's possibly a lot more player depth in advancement than WoW, but the things WoW has over it are:
-100 times better controls (FFXI was developed to be played on a PS2, and the switch to keyboard fails)
-Way less of a grind.
-In WoW, even if the people you might are asshats, they will most likely speak english. When i played FFXI, I ran into a Japanese player daily. It was very difficult to interact with people.
Comments
FFXI = poop
WoW = god

Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Hope that helps
