Bought into Firefall founders at the highest level, not making the same mistake twice.

Edit: And to be clear, you have no idea how much I WANT this project to succeed. I freaking love sci fi themed anything, I loved all the stargate movies, tv shows (even the new origins one). But there's no way I'm going to buy into founders or anything like that if the option to do so ever comes up. I'm still upset about what happened to firefall, everyone points the finger at different people so I'm not necessarily going to do that but I also am going to remain skeptical of anyone creating new games and has also previously worked on firefall.

I don't know if it's still possible now, but after they announced that Firefall was shutting down there was a way to verify your founder status with Firefall and then claim a founder's pack with Em-8er that would grant you a founder's pack of the same level.

The constant direction changes in Firefall was enough to make me question Mr Kerns competence in running a game company.

I loved Firefall before the game got completely ruined with the 1.6 update. But as soon as I heard about Em-8er I immediately backed it. Really hoping this game turns out as a success, because I really prefer sci-fi games over medieval fantasy.

Is that for real? If so, then I might get the same founders pack I got for firefall and then maybe throw a couple extra bucks at it.

Mark was ALWAYS nice when I met him, when we worked together on columns here, etc. His twitter and the rise and fall of Firefall may be contentious as can be, but I'm genuinely intrigued to see what comes out of this.

With Firefall, I think the funding they had was spent wrong (the mobile esports thing, the giant statues at PAX) for a game that was still in development. Plus the game could never settle on what its direction should be. This one seems like Mark knows what he wants from it, and hopefully sticks to it. More importantly, as far as I know, it's on a more meager budget which hopefully means the team will stick to just making the game work.

It is no longer available to claim since the FireFall forums are either down or constantly down. So right now, only people who put in a claim before the forums went down; got a claim in. And we do not get a founders pack. We get virtual currency equal to our founder pack amount. (IE: I was a $100 commander founder, so I will get $100 in virtual currency when the game launches to use in the in-game shop). That being said, people who weren't founders but registered to FireFall before 2015 also got $10 in credit if they claimed it.

I miss Firefall. It was a lot of fun. I was most happy to see they are focusing solely on PvE this time.

Did you jump on the founder credit offer from last year? "The Em-8ER team recognized many Firefall vets backed a vision of the game that Red 5 Studios never delivered. While Em-8ER is not associated with Firefall or Red 5 Studios, we are in many ways Firefall’s spiritual successor and as a token of our appreciation for the early support of the original, true, Firefall vision, we offered a FULL CREDIT of Firefall founder's packs and little something for veterans as well." You can probably shoot him an email or twitter msg to see if its still possible to make good on that offer.

If I am remembering some of his past tweets correctly, there was a lot going on behind the scenes that really messed things up, especially with "upper management". He said once he left the project, the direction got worse. It might be best to judge him based on the time he was there as opposed to when he left.

I backed from day one and got in back when it was invite only, back when the medic had a healing beam like in TF2 and PVP was in the game so I played through enough of Kerns time to judge him on the game while he was there.

The game had many "fun" iterations but just continued to move in a bad direction.  I would like to find out who the person was who decided medics should shoot a slow moving "healing ball" at people using jetpacks and moving around as fast as they can and then get a lock of their hair and take it to a gypsy and pay her to give them the curse of the soft poo for a year.

I would do the same to the person who felt changing medics to fart a small poison cloud in a game where no one stands still and they all have jetpacks.  How does that make any sense as a game mechanic in a fast moving, circle strafing, jetpack wearing game?

His Twitter is what made me lose interest in him and his project. It's not science fiction anyway. It's whatever Event Horizon is.

Backing this to see where it goes. Kern's Firefall (beta) was the most fun I have had in an MMO.
