Did they get rid of that horrible box around targeted mobs yet?  I don't completely hate a ring on the ground but the vertical box they've had is super cheesy.

I put enough hours into this charming low-budget game to give it a recommendation for those who like old-school and quirky.

At £30.99 full price or £23.24 offer price they won't be selling many copies. I played this at Alpha stage but it is not a game worth £30.99. Smells of a cash grab by the developers. I reckon in 12 months it will either be free or the server will be shut down

It was free for years while they were building it.

Far be it for me to criticize a developers financial worth of their project.  However, we as potential customers would be remiss if we were not as honest as possible in assessing, and providing input, regarding said product's honest financial viability.  In the current state of the MMORPG market, as it pertains to competitively comparable products on the market, their $29.99 price tag (and this is with a 25% off sale on Steam), is a bit on the high end.  Considering PG its not the type of game that would otherwise entice impulse buying due to eye candy visuals, I honestly don't know if the price is justified.

I would suggest that, at least upon initial release, they rethink their financial business model.  Players will be less vitriolic in their criticism if they are allowed to try a game without being saddled with such a high entry fee, only to be disappointed after giving it a brief once over.  If your game is good, it will garner support and increase in popularity regardless.  A worst case scenario is not an option as generally speaking, with few exceptions (FFXIV:ARR), MMOs are only given one chance to make it right before they are written off, and discarded, by a very unforgiving gamer population.

Off the top of my head I would, at least, suggest a Free Trial option to get your game populated and moving forward in a positive light.  Absent that, perhaps a lower entry fee to say, at most, $14.99 (preferably $9.99) with the condition that the price will go up within, say a 3-6 month period, to entice players to purchase the game before that time lapse.  IMHO, this is a reasonable start for PG at this point, and would at least foster good will within the community.  The game does have deep systems potential that I feel will not be realized unless it utilizes a customized, and well thought out, business model.

But they had a free trial. The game was free for years for people to try out and decide if they want to buy the steam version.

I don't think they are trying to pander to the impulse buyers, they are trying to get the people who want a true oldschool MMORPG again. Most people I know who play this game, or have played in the past love it (other than the animations). I for one will be buying this on Friday. I've been waiting for a way to support them without having to drop 80 bucks on their website.

Try to think in terms of what is good for the game now, and well into its future.  I'm sure it's gratifying to the developers to know that you and another dozen or so players are currently enjoying the game and will continue to do so upon release.  The game will need more than that to sustain growth and success going forward.

My above post offers sensible solutions that will go a long way toward ensuring a more successful release, and continued success going forward into the future.  I am sure that as a fan of the game you would welcome a healthy population and for the game to thrive going forward.  If the above suggestions are out of line, or present any type of negative obstacles, by all means stand in opposition.  A free trial is not a lot to ask for.  To discard other business model possibilities at release simply because you and another dozen or so niche players are satisfied, however, would not be prudent and do the game a lot more harm than good.

Personally, and at first glance, the game does not entice me to consider purchasing it, to simply give it a try, at its current price.  I doubt I'm the only one.  I'm pretty sure I'm also not the only gamer who stays away from trying games during their alpha-stages, simply because they are free, and would rather wait until a game is released before trying it.  It isn't 1999 anymore.  There are way too many other MMORPG alternatives to chose from today.  Just my humble opinion, FWIW.  Time will tell.

Been playing PG for years and have promoted it here over the years .. this is a really great game with incredible depth ,(more depth than most of the AA titles out right now) there are not many games that manage to streamline Adventuring /Crafting/Class Builds and Lore into one smooth , cohesive and believeable world ...(you have UO , Asherons Call, Eve and Project Gorgon that have managed this ) Well worth the 30$ and will only get better ..

I don't necessarily disagree with you.  I'm not sure PG, in the current market, can sustain itself with a box price.

Despite this, I'll likely purchase the product to play around with periodically and to help support the developers, because this is truly an incredible indie effort considering the situation.  It's the definition of a passion project, and this genre desperately needs new passion.  With that in mind, I consider it worth $30.

each to their own, but this is nothing more than a cash grab, something many developers in this industry have become accustomed to doing to the consumers in the game industry. I mean someone even mentioned 20 dev team needing 20 millions...so now coders and artists require 200k a year salaries?

This is a farce would never participate in it and anyone else that does just sets back this industry even further. The industry wont improve until you hold them up to better standards and value for your money.

I look forward to the news in 18 months of how the PG server is shutting down. There are many graphically inept games out right now that offer "deep" game play including numerous muds this is just a rehash. This is why we get "remastered" versions of games from 2002 like neverwinter instead of new games.

Visually you can buy every asset/animation in pg for about 1500 bucks off the unreal store.
What a joke. You know nothing about this game or the people making it. A cash grab? People have been playing this game for years for free.

When they ran the kickstarter, their goal was $20,000 and they raised $74,781. WTF do you expect for that kind of money? Of course they use purchased assets. That isn't enough money to pay even 1 artist for a year.

You should try actually researching a game before you start spouting off about it.

As it is not my nature to unduly criticize games, I don't say the above with the intent to undermine Project Gorgon in any way.  I am just chiming in with a bit of constructive criticism because  I do believe that the game has some redeeming value in the scope of what it wants to offer. Trust that if I did not, I would not waste my time commenting.

Here's the thing.  A game's population is a limited valuable resource.  A resource that needs to be carefully cultivated.  A very good argument could be made that upon initial release, the objective of increasing a game's population should be a greater priority than that of attaining temporary financial profit.  A game needs to populate itself before even word of mouth can take effect.   And even then, that word of mouth needs to be substantive before it can take hold with the mainstream gaming population.  Without a population, an MMO game is nothing.

Even though building and cultivating a game's population may not bring in initial profit by offering a trial, this is an essential and critical investment for any MMO.  That being said, what would be the best way to gain that population?  The answer to that would be to facilitate entry by removing all unnecessary barriers.  And there is no greater barrier for a game than charging players, players that you need to populate and sell your game via word of mouth, to play your game.  So that the question that then begs to be asked is, if you know you need players to populate your game, who will in-turn invite others to join via participation, friendship, and word of mouth, to help your game thrive, why are you setting up barriers such as a cover charge that will work against the ultimate goal of attaining a thriving population thereby securing continual future profit and growth?

The MMO industry is hella flooded and competitive.  Project Gorgon is a very small indie company with a very niche following.  The window for a game like PG to make an impact is very small.  Not only is the market flooded with pretty good alternatives at the moment, but there are some pretty good titles looming.  Its imperative that they make an impact upon release.  By not allowing players free access to try their game before committing to a purchase, you are cutting off your nose to spite your face.  Its really not good business sense. The strategy should always be to let the players in, hook them to your product, after which those wallets will begin to open naturally.  You have nothing to lose by doing so, unless your game is not very good and you are only in it for the quick cash grab.

I dont have a dog in this fight.  Just offering a  point of view out of many.  I wish the game well so let the chips fall where they may.  Good luck with building that big ol' wall though.  Can't say I didn't flash the bright yellow light.

This is the most fun I've had in the first couple starter zones since probably original SWG or Vanguard. The price + visuals will keep out the people who prefer graphics over gameplay which is good for the game IMO.
