I played the original EvE... If his job was the player flow/experience... Not really a good CV post seeing how the old game was akin to running headfirst in to a concrete wall... Only repeating the process until you or the wall gave way yielded any results. =P

Actually... Apart from vision i can´t say there is anything from launch EvE that i would cherish all that much. It was something very new back then... But that was then and now is now and times have moved on.

Because working for CCP from 1999 thru 2015 (including 4 yrs of WOD development) would give him no insight of value to delivering this new space conquest MMORPG?

Looking at his Linkedln profile, I'd call it a solid hire. Heck, I've considered doing so before, I may buy one of those recently announced backer packages with this good news.

My bad... I should have made the smileys larger. It was mostly in jest. If nothing else the fellow will have a very sharp knowledge on what NOT to do... And that seems to be lacking in today´s game development market. =)

As for what those 4 years on WoD are worth... Who knows... Seeing how CCP chocked that team to death in a move that would make Ted DiBiase proud. For all we know the team was kept folding napkins.

I would hardly say "wealth of knowledge" with this guy seeing how as Eve underachieved as a AAA game in a massive way,it barely looked Indie.
So i do not expect this guy to bring anything of quality to Dual Universe,he would likely make it worse and turn it into some ISK rmt operation.

Yeah, I guess we may have to forgive him for the WOD years, but at least he got out in 2015 before CCP really started going into a slide.

Considering it was one of the original "indie" developers starting on funds earned from selling a board game they first created, I'd argue EVE is one of the more qualified successes over the years.

It was never a AAA title and the devs never varying stance towards providing a harsh, unyielding PVP focused universe always ensured it would remain a niche title.

Its risky to criticize that which you have limited knowledge of, makes one appear bitter and narrow minded.....

    Oh wait.....NM

Alas,  apparently not to your taste, but there is so many great things about EVEs design, but if that's your touch point I'm unable to convince otherwise.

eve never was a game for the masses, you like it or you leave it... and i guess you left it :)
bout half a million people decided different tho.

and imo, i rather play a niche game i like that a mass game i don't.

but lemme guess, you either are a pve player, OR thought you are a pvp player, bought yourself some expensive ship, went to the nullsec.... and popped? :>

In all fairness EvE is a key game in the shaping of the MMO sphere. That we should never take away from it. But as Thane points out it never set out to be a game for the masses. Partially because there was no "masses" in the mmo sphere at the time. But also because there was no need to streamline things yet.

But there was no denying that even at the point of release it was something entirely different.

I've had my eye on this one, but if it ends up being EVE 2.0 I'm out. I don't need that level of grief in my life.

Eve Online is one of the best games ever made in the MMO industry. Unfortunately players still stuck to the arcade experience of easy games.

But it isn't just 'point and click' and saying spaceship only is like saying 'X-wing vs Tie-fighter' what is so great about that? FPS only, what is so great about that? You do actually need to do manually flying in Eve.

But if you are looking for a pve experience only, then Eve is not for you, Eve is NOT just 'spaceships'. That is rather an over-simplification.

Apocrypha from 2009 is the gold standard of eve expansions so i don;t know where the from 2006 comment comes from I am sure. Eve is still good, if the idea of Dark Souls In Space appeals to you, I have been having some nice battles and scheming in faction warfare.

As the saying goes if you find yourself in a 1v1, then you are doing something wrong.

Bads are eliminated from eve via natural selection. The weak must perish so that the strong can survive.
