Unknown Realm - 8 bit 80s style RPG - Kickstarter

MightyUncleanMightyUnclean Member EpicPosts: 3,531
This may be interesting to fans of 80s RPGs like the Ultimas, Phantasies, Questrons, and Legacy of the Ancients.  I have sworn off crowd funded games for the most part, but I might throw $10 their way.

Wow, this site full of old timers doesn't have any interest in a game like this?  Is it the crowdfunding thing?

So, $10 for a bookmark so they can eat pizza.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

    Its a MMORPG thing....

Just as I left Risk, Axis and Allies and Stratego long ago, same for 8 bit single player RPGs.

I don't really care for modern  single player games,  but with the market for a good MMORPG so wanting I've had little choice but to play some.

whilst I loved the rpgs of my youth I don't want to go back to the graphics they involve.

It's not hard to find nice looking 2d graphics on unity or unreal that you could make the game with.

    they are not even expensive

I've spent a long time wondering who is actually interested in these old school 8bit style games.

From all my discussions with a wide variety of gamers, I've come to the conclusion that the primary audience for these games is not the old school gamer full of nostalgia. It's actually a much younger audience who didn't experience these games the first time around and who fit these games in between big releases as a cheap way of passing the time. Typically in the 18-24 age range.

It seems that those of us who experienced these games the first time around generally have no interest in them (there are always exceptions of course, this is just general observation). Whilst we enjoyed them back then, we've been there, done that, and we're more interested in improving games, not reliving the early days.

Congrats to them on crushing their goal.  It just doesn't appeal to me considering all of the modern RPGs I still need to try.
