Star Trek Online News - Star Trek Online will be getting a new expansion in June 2018 for PC players and later for consolers. Called Victory is Life, the expansion is based around the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine series in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Players will find a new Jem'Hadar playable faction, six brand new episodes and crew members voiced by the original series stars.

New Specialization, new Reputation, new Fleet tier ...yahoo, more grinding. Besides the Jem'Hadar I hope they at least add the Vorta. That's been asked for a lot by the STO community besides is there any good reason not to add them. J.G. Hertzler had already done some recent voice work in-game, he is narrating the vid, & is always welcome. Rene Auberjonois might have had a bit speaking part during the tail-end of the last released episodes & might be having a new Secondary Specialization (Constable). Simerman's & Visitor's additions will be brand new, but all those talented people will be appreciated in STO. Six brand new episodes is a pretty weak delivering for a whole new season, but Cryptic has been cutting back in STO content over the last couple of years & in it's stead focused more on the emerging gambling mechanics & selling of item/services. I'm guessing this will somewhat focus around the rebuilding of DS9. I'm looking forward to the 6 episodes' story lines since, imo, even though they are fewer in the last couple of years the STO writing crew does a pretty good job. I'm also expecting to see another big package deal for sale with the new Victory Is Life expansion along with another possible recruitment limited-time event.

Sometimes I love this game. Sometimes I hate it. Wish I could play it on a server with no gambling boxes. I don't mind the long grinds. The foundry is amazing. The only thing I can't stand is the RNG required to max out your gear. You think RNG is bad in your game? Give this one a try and you'll appreciate your game much more. That said, it's Star Trek. Love the Universe, the ship models are awesome, and if you really explore all the facets of the game, there's a lot to do.

Unfortunately I don't play this game anymore even though I have a life time membership. I got tired of them announcing something great like the ship from the new movies or the Discovery starship from the new tv show and then putting it in a "LOCK BOX" instead of making it available in the C-Store.

So its set after Next Gen, but before Discovery?

Oh come on, add the Borg as a playable faction already. Yes I know, lifers like me get the liberated Borg. But I don't care. I want a new faction. And to fly a Borg cube. Right next to the Galaxy X class and the Scimitar class the Borg cube is the coolest ship in ST.

Not sure we'd ever get borg proper, but an alliances faction that lets us pick up the liberated borg as their own full-fledged group (alongside other non-Fed/KDF groups that aren't big enough to be standalone) would be neat.

I mean that's effectively what the Jem'Hadar and Romulan faction is (save those two are known to be large enough in force to stand on their own to some degree, even if forced into the Fed/KDF alliance framework).

CBS says discovery is set a decade before the original series. . .

the game is set after both.

They call it an expansion, but we're only getting six new playable episodes. Maybe 4-5 hours worth of new missions basically. Pretty sad. And they said new faction, but it's only one new playable race that starts at level 60. Cap is 65, so you get five whole levels with your new char. I was very excited, not so much anymore. Don't know why I waste my time and money on this game.

I miss-posted should have been "after Next Gen, but before Voyager"?

If this is your wife's and your first time I envy you the discovery ahead.

Still playing from the beginning and am a lifetime sub. This game has gotten so deep I just wish people would come back and re-try it to see what they are missing. I highly suggest trying. Why not? Its free!

Timing of the setting takes place after events of the thus-far produced series in total, taking place in the 2400s. With the exception of specific time jump episodes, it's chronologically picking up where the last major part of Trek continuity dropped off in 2395 (with a ~15 year gap in time with the game initially starting in 2409).

You know the company's desperate for people when the reason for trying the game is "it's free," nothing about content, nothing about gameplay, and nothing about the playerbase.

I didn't think that PWE could cut back on content any more until this news post said there would be "six brand new episodes" for this "expansion."  I think there were eight story missions released in the two years since the last expansion and that last expansion was also short on story missions.  With the amount of lootboxes and the time spent, I expected this expansion to be a bit "meatier" in terms of content.

Why am I envisioning an entire space-station sized loot box?  I've moved on.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

    Yep, as the wiki says:
"Star Trek Online takes place in what among Star Trek fans is called the "Prime Universe". This is the story continuity, which includes the events of all the Star Trek television series. The events of the "Kelvin Timeline" (as depicted in the 2009 Star Trek film) are part a separate timeline and have a minimal effect on the events of the game."

There's a bit of a gap between "when it game out" and the "Poor mmorpg, disappointing setting and broken raids."
Why don't you check back and look around? Who knows, maybe they did some developments over the years... in the worst case you can play the "great single player ship flying game" with a lot of new seasons added. As Renanton said above, it's free...

In my case I would prefer something closer to Artemis, I just don't think the type of gameplay works for me in the Trek IP. Now, a real MMO version of that game would be really fun.
