PTU Access changed

Turrican187Turrican187 Member UncommonPosts: 787
Though CIG increased the Evocati members from 1000 to 2000 Accounts and have changed the Wave1 requirements:

Wave 0: Evocati - NDA, Client Watermarked
Wave 1: all Subscribers ($10/Month and up) and all Concierge ($1000 Account value) - no NDA
Wave 2: all other PTU testers (those who don't want to or may not send their Photo ID, aren't subbing the Alpha and are not Concierge status)

This means if you are in Wave 2 to get to the earlier access you need to pay money or hope for evocati status (Which includes sending your Photo ID).

Subs are willing to spend money monthly to help produce Bugsmashers and Around the Verse, and Evocati are hardcore Beta monkeys, I'm fine with this. Plus this is just to test borked builds, it doesn't matter when it's live.

Call me when the next "crisis" arises.

    @Turrican187
And what has "changed" in your opinion ?

Sounds like it has been that for months ....

and after a few days it does not matter anyway, because the new build is transferred to live server and everyone can test it.

I don't like that it's migrated from alpha/beta access for early backers to paid module access to alpha/beta access to all to privileged access to those willing to pay extra. It shows CIG are willing to walk all over previous perks in the search for new ways to make money (although that should come as no surprise given all the other examples, like LTI sales).
Changing the deal because they want to milk people is pretty damn scummy.

We are talking about a few days difference in access for an Alpha module in a test server.

    Get real, people.

Then why do they have a difference at all?

Minor perks with minimal effect on the big picture.

They let some people do voluntary bug hunting a few days sooner than others.

It's not if it's a few days, months or years ... it's about paying folks before folks who report frequently on the issue council.
Star Citizen has about 1 Million backers (it was always ~50% of the Citizen tracker) and only 2000 Evocati slots that can be earned through participate.
But there are unlimited slots for the people that are willing to pay more to get an earlier access.
This practise should not be ok otherwise other companies will have soon subscriptions for pre-alpha access.

It's not the time that matters Erillion, it's the principle of walking over previous perks.
Is that so difficult to understand?

The people that REALLY report frequently to the issue council are in the Evocati, IF they want.
I know of no case where the Evocati application was refused for people that log in many and good bug hunting reports to the Issue Council.

And the Evocati are the VERY FIRST that get their hands on any new build. Which is a mixed blessing, as these early builds are very rough.

So for me this is a non-issue, raised by theorycrafters.

Someone who REALLY wants to get his hands on the VERY first build a few days earlier than others can easily achieve that goal.

I really want to get my hands on the final release, what you think, another two or three years maybe?

    My personal guess ?

For Squadron 42 it was Nov. 2017 .... my revised estimate is now 2018.

For Star Citizen it was 2018. In view of the newest progress reports i would revise that to 2019 for the first playable build (not the full 100 systems).

As stated before ... i am of the game-philosophy-school "Its done when its done". I rather have a good and complete game later, than a buggy incomplete mess too soon. Plenty of games to play until Star Citizen launch. Battletech for one ;-)

This shakes the very core of the gaming industry, we should all be very worried. Anyone fancy organizing a demonstration march/rally?
