Sea of Thieves News - Just prior to the launch of Sea of Thieves, Rare announced that players would need to pay a "death tax" to the Captain of the Ferry of the Damned in order to resurrect. At the time, it was said that a "small gold fee" would need to be paid. However, after player outcry, Rare has reversed the decision and will not bring the death tax into the game.

Did they expect a near FFA game to not have griefing?

    Needs a Guild system.

I like the way Echo Of Soul did it where if you wanted PVP you joined a Hostile Clan and if you wanted PVE you joined a Peace Clan. People in the Peace Clans could not be attacked. The Hostile clans were free to pvp with each other at any time.

"Griefing. I know in the March 26 developer update this was touched on by one of the devs, so I won't go much into it. But I will say that after just wanting to explore and complete voyages and racking up a ton of loot, and then getting finally getting to an Outpost to trade in all my plunder subsequently getting ambushed by a four-man crew and losing all of it is one of the most frustrating things I have ever encountered. It is actually making me not want to play this game. Also, a few days ago I was with a group of friends and we were finally doing the skull island raid. We had finally completed all the waves of skeletons, and then another fou-man ship comes in and starts attacking. That's all well and good, it's part of the game and I was good with a little more extra challenge to get our hard-earned loot. We had the key, we finally sunk their ship, so we should be good right? WRONG. They attack again. And again. And again. We were running out of resources, and they were getting more every time we sunk their ship and they came back. Finally, after wasting two hours of our time fighting the skeletons and the same crew a million times, they finally all kill us, the key is lost, and everything that we did was wasted."

    This sounds broken to me.

Griefing was a constant theme through out beta, these devs have too much faith in humanity me thinks...

Griefing? It's literally a game about pirates. You would think that griefing would be a core part of the game.

No content and unbalanced pvp. This wont last. I remember a couple years ago when my friends and i though this was going to be a MMO but unfortunately is going to end like most games nowdays a fast food video game that most wont play after 2 weeks or 1 month. The worst is that its overpriced, thank god that we at least have Game Pass.

I think it's how the griefing works, based on the comment cheyane posted earlier, that sounds broken as hell. The fact that you can be running the skull island encounter, and have a group attack you, you beat them sink their ship, and they just come back over and over and over until you can no longer defend against them anymore, it sounds really busted.

There is plenty of content and nit sure where the unbalanced pvp part comes in. It s like any game it s always a work in progress. I know most people nowadays want everything now, but in reality that will never happen. It s already good, only to get better.

You think it is good...many think it is empty and not good. To each his own. Personally, I found it quite boring and unfinished. Definitely not worth the $60 for full price game in my opinion. If it is a work in progress charge like it is (maybe $20) and if you ever add more, charge for a DLC or something. I think many people are oppossed to paying up front for what might be an empty promise on what may come down the road...

Sounds like they need to rework their spawn system and actually add death penalties.

This have happened a lot to us. Once we even left the game after 3 hours of pointless combat where we were winning all the fights easily (boring), yet we run out of time because the bugs were annoying us every 2 minutes without penalty. Usually when we lose a fight we dont comeback over and over until the end of the times.

They must force people to respawn in the other side of the map without ressources when you die in pvp or something.

All games are in progress, this one isn t special to that. People can t do anything now without having their hand held telling them where to go. I have discovered so much that you wouldn t see unless you LOOK. If you just follow the simple maps etc, yes then it would. Updates are coming with content just like any other GAME. Hence the work in progress.

Well, this article is partially about them removing the only penalty they had, so I'm kind of confused about the direction the game is heading at this point lol.

It's a big open game with very little to do. I was bored within 30mins of playing it and that included fighting players trying to ambush us the first chance we set out to sea. The systems are not complete and still don't understand all the hype it got. Luckily it's on the xbox pass free trail at least for PC so didn't cost me a dime, but it is definitely not a $60 game. It should be more along the pubg price point of $25-30 and be considered Early Access.

We don't have this mythical complete game down the line. We do not know what the end product will look like in a year. We have the version that they launched with. They are charging money now. The game will be reviewed as it is right now.

I wanted to love this game, my fault for not waiting and watching more gameplay It's just trash. If they made this a proper survival game where you had a penalty for losing your ship, you have to buy a crap ship upgrade it and make wealth to buy bigger ships which again you can lose when they sink etc it would have been a dream, but etf is this? every quest is the same, hardly ever see other players and if you do they run away, if you kill them they just respawn in a few seconds with no loss... wtf did i buy. Should have bought Naval Action...
  • NikaasNikaas Member UncommonPosts: 135
It's like this game was supposed to be something very different, but for some reason they made a sharp turn in design direction. This can explain the lack of content and the inconsistent direction of devs decisions.
