For the better part of two months, it seems that the Black Desert Online siege wars community has been suffering quite a number of issues with server stability and performance during the game’s large-scale PVP events. An MMO YouTuber sent along the below story of his own account to recap the events and to shed light on a “Protest Event” that occurred this past weekend on the BDO servers. The BDO Siege Community presented Kakao with a list of proposed wants/hopes for the game, to which Kakao responded. It’s worth a read for all fans of BDO, so dive in. And thanks, anonymous tipster!

Every single RvR type game that I've ever played going all the way back to DAoC has always had terrible performance. No MMO has ever been able to perfectly handle that many people playing at one time in one area. I doubt an MMO ever will. It's just the nature of the beast. Either accept it or move on from this particular niche.

What about planetside 2 . I've played it with hundreds of players with littlerly little to no performance issues. I think alot of mmorpgs could take some notes from them

They have been giving compensation since launch for performance.

They ruined the game after like 3 to 4 months when the game became Farmville, tending to your gardens.

They added gardening etc. Later on, they also made it required to get gear past +15. You might remember it the time a large chunk of the population charged back and won. Had nothing to do with the gameplay they ruined but people claimed charge backs were due to them adding sellable cash shop items. Same time frame that they completely destroyed the game. Wasn't a big deal to me, but they did ruin the game at this time. More than likely the real reason people charged back were they ruined the game, but they'd never win that. https://www.mmorpg.com/mobile/news.cfm/read/40933/ismb/1/Black-Desert-Online-Players-Chargebacks-Kakao-Taking-a-Stand.html

Well, I've never gardened by have gotten gear past +15 so not sure what that's about. Maybe it yields something that I've just purchased on the market?

Probably, they made it too much pve to compete in pvp with changes to go +20. http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/98389-20-ruined-this-game/ They made various updates for pve and made pvp worse.

Well yeah, but even CU isn't shooting to support 1400 on grid at one time.

Not likely there is much Kakao can do to fix this without significant engine redesign which has little chance of occuring at this point.

Good luck Black Desert Online players. Those responses from Kakao games were very troubling to hear.
  • XiaokiXiaoki Member EpicPosts: 4,045
Kakao's response to the game-breaking issues haves always been "We would prefer to do nothing, but you're free to keep playing" but the community cant give them money fast enough when new cosmetic outfits are released.

If you really want these issues resolved then vote with your damn wallets. These sit-in protests wont accomplish anything.

This is wrong on so many levels.
This very game works without problems in KR. 21 Guilds no problem.

Lineage 2 worked 200 vs 200 even on private servers.
WOW worked with Horde Vs Alliance 300 people each side.
A lot more to list, but I think the examples listed prove how wrong you are.

They added more and more content, they reduced the server capacity.
They merged the 3 servers into one mega servers where things like Market are controlled by one server and so on. All in all Kakao happened. This game works without problems in KR.

That's the problem, they didn't do anything even compensations in the last 8 months.
The sieges are the same any week. They give compensation once ever 8 months.

While I've been a part of large sieges in Lineage 2, there were times when they were huge and lag was problematic.

Seems like the problem started this year. Everything you mentioned happened long ago.

It is really sad that a game on a PS2 "FFXI" still to this day has the best MMORPG event i have ever played over all these years and it is called "besieged".
Unlike so many games trying to create interest via pvp,Besieged did it as PVE,players banded together to work alongside rather than against each other. The event was amazing for such a platform, the Beast hordes different tribes would randomly invade the major city hub and NPC's could be captured and their services lost. You could actually go out and rescue them in the game world and fight those very same bosses,an amazing well designed event.

You see to me this just proves BDO is more fluff than content, more show than go,i saw it almost immediately and left the game early on.Their main concept is yet again like so many games >>PVP,how about the long lost art of having players ALL of them band together for fun?

Well i guess you have to be ABLE to create fun enough content for players to prefer PVE over pvp, again something most developers lack in a big way.

Nobody sieged Valencia for 8 months now.
All sieges are shit when 100vs100 meet no matter where.
But to take out guilds like that out of castle you needed 400 people, so when they gathered it died. In the last 2 months people started raging about it.
It's there for 1 year, you can read a little higher.
"For the best part of a year now the Black Desert Online community have been very disappointed and vocal about the state of the servers especially in the game's main end game content known as node wars and castle sieges"

BDO has HORRIBLE PvP anyway, let alone the lag, disconnects, and "Rubber Banding".

And speaking of "Rubber Banding", it is clear, that BDO's game engine micro-manages movement and location, to a terrible effect. Until I played BDO, I had never experience such often rubber-banding, even while doing simple PvE, or ever heard of a game being RENOWN for such a weird lag aspects of rubber-banding.

But rubber-banding is what BDO's game is engine is RENOWN for; and this was especially seen on that NA siege war in Valencia, which I attended, where many guilds allied to take down the guild Man-Up, that had held Valencia castle for months. Literally, any movement, (if you were able to stay logged in that is), was rubber-banded, all the while, things like siege buildings/structures would disappear, and one could walk through them, only to be rubber-banded back.

BDO has done compensation many times, but, it is not enough, after all these issues. I think by the time Bless comes out, I myself will skip out. I certainly know I'm not going to buy anything more from BDO's cash shop, until things are DRASTICALLY improved.
