Arcfall News - Beginning April 6th, Arcfall will be going free to play. The decision was made "because it already has an item store" and developers promise that the core design will not be changing. Those who purchased the game prior to April 6th will be gifted 400 Arcfall coins (~ $30) that can be used in the shop. Founder's Packs are also available from $40 to $200, each with a series of in-game items and perks.

Hmm haven't seen a large community playing this, even though i don't like FTP games it will be good to try it out and see what its like. They really needed a free weekend in Steam to help this one along or something

Tried playing it off an on for a couple weeks recently. Steamcharts aren't lying. There's a very good chance you'll be the only one playing on the server.

I remember this game had a lot of lag/spawn issues when I last saw it.. Haven't heard much in the way of updates, but some of the core features of the game sound promising. I'll probably end up checking it out again.

historically, the transition to F2P doesnt mean good things. A few games have done it well, ESO, STO, a couple others probably, but on the flip side, its the first major sign the game is close to death.

This game looks like you had 1 maybe 2 developers working on it. Look at their crappy website and read the Steam info on this game.

    You also have this warning.

WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS PRE-ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT.

This is just another game that had no backing to get built. While I agree that having choice in important in the MMORPG Genera right now the Genera is over saturated and more games need to close before some other games can be made and be successful. Having over 100 MMORPGS is not helpful. Having 2 dozen would be good.

Ive been testing Arcfall for near  a year now .. And all these games like Albion ,Legends of Aria , Wild Terra etc , that claim and want to be a "UO -like"

Arcfall is the closest to that experience , and ive played UO for 20 years now .. Much of the community has been idle waiting for this update ..

What do you consider the features that make a game "UO like". I've seen that used a lot lately across several games (and all that you mentioned including this one). I'm just curious if there is a short bullet point list of what that is supposed to mean. What are these games, or their fans, saying when they slap that label on it.
First of all a cohesive World that Lore Crafting and Class/Skills feel natural ..The starter area does have a bit of generic feel to it , but it gets better as you move forward , Its just to teach you basics in a clean manner which it accomplishes

Fauna is very important also , something Albion failed at miserably (everything in Albion felt so contrived) .. LoA needs work in this area , Wild Terra has done a decent job with this ..

Arcfall has done a good job with this , the new update looks to breath more life into the world itself ..

Of course an open ended Skill tree for builds , which Arcfall does really well

Useful crafting that does not feel like a chore

and of course a sense of Danger , and not just from players .. The PVE also delivers here ..

A good housing system .. which they have a good system in place it does need some work..
Ill try to write more later , but wife just left to store , and i have a 6 year old tuggin at me :)

Arcfall is a Consentual PvP based system, so you have to either have bad Karma (Which you get when you steal or kill other players) or opt into being PvP flagged. But there is full loot drop if you die and cant get back to your body within 3 min.

Looks like it's an ortho projection. IF so, that spoils the immersion I'm looking for.

I actually might give this a try with that kind of pvp system....

The reason its now f2p is because it was bascally a failure and now they are scraping the bottom of the barrel to try to save it before it goes bellyup. I might try it, but i'll most likely not put money into is as when most games go from buy2play to f2p its usually never a good sign.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

I've been waiting for this game. I'll definitely give it a try when it comes off Steam (I don't use Steam).

Does anybody know when it'll be available for direct download?

It has skill caps so actual character building so I am interested. But, is it a crafting game like Wild Tera, or a real game like UO?
