At PAX East this weekend we got the chance to chat with the team at Ship of Heroes. The team continues to build out the game and is working on a challenging and fun game which heralds back to the City of Heroes days.

Having said that i feel the demographic this caters to really doesn't care about HQ gaming, they just want their super heroes and to pvp with them.
If this was Unreal 4,Epic games or a big studio, large budget, large team MAYBE.However seeing how the industry is working right now, would just be another lazy effort rushed Sea of Thieves type game that just banks on early fast sales if a large studio.
I just do not see ANYONE putting in a legit effort in game design right now,it seems the market is TOO EASY a sell so why bother with effort, just toss a gimmick out there and it sells.
If i saw ANYTHING that would give me hope for this game,i would state it but so far not a single thing.I do NOT wish bad luck on the guy working this,i am sure he is doing his best but i have to keep it REAL, i am not in the business of pampering or bs'ing to get business from this guy.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Ship of Heroes is run by a small team, so while nobody should bank on this game being a crazily polished, amazing triple A title, creating a game now is much different than it was over a decade ago, the engines do a lot of the work, so it's easier to put something out with a smaller team.
I'm not jazzed about Ship of Heroes as of yet, I still think they need to change the name, but I'm not going to count them out. I feel like their exposure has been premature, but, I guess we can't fault them for wanting to talk about their project.
They have said they will be launching with teleport, super speed, and flight for travel powers (lots of people have asked for leaping, so that is a maybe)

But even with CoH, CO and DCUO combined, I doubt there was at peak much more than a half million players. CoH released with more than a half million, but that was because of the novelty. It settled to about 200k subs pretty quickly.
Ship of Heroes will be very happy with an eventual sub base of 30k or so. They don't think they will start there, since they won't have much to invest in advertising. But once word of mouth gets out, they want to end up at 30K+ subs, which will give them the funds for a steady stream of updates for years to come. Since they are not trying to please the masses, they are focusing the game on what their fans are asking for. Of course, we all know that not every word that comes out of a fan's mouth will turn to gold, and they are taking that into consideration. But they are testing things that we (the people that are interested and are investing in the game) want to see, which has drawn me in.
SoH will be a niche game. They are fine with that. As long as they can keep 30K+ fans happy, they will be happy.
The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!
Yea but none that have the real City of Heroes feel to them like this one..
I could not agree more. Ship of Heroes feels like CoH. I had given up hope to ever see a suitable replacement. but now I can see it. I have to wait a year or so but I love what they are doing.
I loved CoH, played it for years, when it closed I was sad, but truthfully, it was dated, I'm looking for something that takes CoH a step further.. I don't understand why others wouldn't want that.
There is just no atmosphere, GFX, Post-FX, nothing!
500 years ago people in Europe dumped their garbage out of windows onto the streets for slaves to clean up, which is why when walking as a couple men are supposed to walk on the street side of the sidewalk - any garbage coming out of a window would hit them before their wives/ girlfriends. Houses were built with wooden pins, since very few could afford metal nails. And, these nails wore out rather quickly. Since the average lifespan of a non-royal male was about 35 years, a lot of families were run by a widowed mom with 6-8 kids to take care of and the houses were rarely repaired.
See how far we have come in 500 years? How far will be in another 500 years?
The game won't release for another 18-20 months, they have plenty of time to sharpen up the GFX and SFX.

You can see the videos of how the game runs on Youtube, do not need to be in the alpha to see how bad that game is. I saved $25 by watching others truck around in that messy game. I do not like much of anything SoH is doing to be honest with you. They are betting on adding more stuff "later" while CoT is adding stuff to their launch which will make that one a more complete game than SoH.
