Novaquark has released a brand new trailer to showcase some of the amazing things players have created in the voxel-based MMO, Dual Universe. Pre-alpha players have taken part in creating a variety of outposts to show off the proprietary voxel engine that is as simple or as complex as a player has time and inclination for.

pre-alpha? so not even in the alpha stage, exactly how many years away from having a working beta  is the game? So while it is impressive some of the players have made this, there is no guarantee it will even make it into the game itself.
Hopefully the game does get made as we need more scifi based games. :/

Well yeah this is nice but that is all this was ever going to amount to,a voxel building game,a Minecraft in space,i see no reason to invest time into a game like this,i am well beyond building stuff, been doing it for years for FREE with Unreal engines.

Making terrain & constructs editable in a single map shared by all players simultaneously is something that's never been done in massively multiplayer gaming. This goes way beyond the scope of anything in another game. Technologically, it's a huge milestone on par with the first 3D game. From a gameplay perspective, it's a new genre; which is very rare in modern gaming.

Whether the game itself has any replayability beyond "gonna build more stuff" remains to be seen. Their plan to let users create the content is a great way to keep the game open ended, but if there's *nothing* of interest to explore outside developed areas, most people will get bored quickly.

Personally, I hope that by the time they reach final release, there will be editable creatures running around wild.

This game is still in early pre-alpha, under an NDA. Beta is expected later this year. Release will probably be 2019 at the earliest. Hopefully people aren't saying "Ew, old graphics" by then, because what matters is whether they can make the gameplay work, with all worldwide players sharing the same instance on a "single-shard" server. Server performance will make or break this tech; the scope of activities available will make or break the game.

Building stuff is great but ive seen most of it before in Landmark. The single map and traveling off planet is a neat idea but unless you are able to populate the planets or find some way to give players a decent enough reason to explore then I do not see it being more than just a gimmick.

I will hold off on this one to see how it turns out but if activities are reliant on the playerbase and if they don't have the numbers then its not going to last. I do hope this one does that Landmark failed to do and succeeds but I will wait to see how the finished product turns out before I decide wither im interested in playing this one.

I thought of buying in early, but as noted while the ship and world building is great and all, there doesn't appear to be any game play.

I watched a video of players building a ship,  and although it could move it really was just a glorified house.

I kept waiting for it to "shoot" something but it never did.

That's because combat has not been implemented yet ! :D

DU has no NPC's, and will have only a handful of "wild creatures" roaming around at launch. So if you want to "shoot something", it will have to be another player.

The essence of DU game play is basically "EVE without the PVE". Players will group up into "organisations" and compete for resources, which exist in finite amounts on the various planets. Once a system has been stripped of valuable resources, outward expansion will be required.

DU is a FFA-PVP game with full loss of items and inventory when you die. It's a far harsher world than EVE, because the safe zones are limited in size and number.
