Darkfall: Rise of Agon News - Starting at 12:00 pm Pacific / 3:00 pm Eastern, Darkfall: Rise of Agon players will be able to take part in its own version of battle royale. This is a free-for-all event with all players starting with no gear or items. As ever, the search then begins for weapons, armor, reagents and more. "The longer you survive and the more players you kill, the better your gear bag will become. Last player standing wins!"

    I really hate bandwagons. I mean, from a business perspective it makes sense, but as a gamer it just gets annoying seeing these things come out of the woodwork regardless of who started what first etc.

    According to your logic then WoW was a bandwagon game as well since everything that came out after UO,EQ was just bandwagon games...

    Rather depends on what we mean by "new" and "original", I think its fair to say that WoW was more original in terms of MMOs than another BR set in a different MMO is in terms of BR. :)

    I would argue that it wasn't new or original. However, I would say that it was well executed.

    They took what was good, improved on it, added more content, so yes, in terms of well executed it probably qualifies, as long as you ignore the launch  :p
    The whole BR bandwagon though is a fair comment, not only is the Darkfall entry a very late entry into an already crowded market, but its something that is strictly an arena game of the rinse and repeat variety, i don't really see it as being a useful addition to a game with levels that objectively gives players advantages based on those levels, the only way it could possibly work is if they also took away any level benefits players might have along with all their equipment and skills, somehow i can't see that appealing to the regular Darkfall 'crowd' at all, of course throwing your existing playerbase under a bus in an attempt to garner a larger one is not a new concept either, remember SOE, didn't exactly work out for them either. ;)

    Depends.

    If it's a cheap stand-alone PUBG/Fortnite ripoff - yes.

    If's it's an added PvP mode to an existing game - no.



    Because just like "capture the flag" - "battle royale" is a mode of PvP that happens to be popular now.

    I don't see anything wrong with games that have PvP instances adding a BR type of PvP.


    Not talking about the actual gameplay, but the name. Correct me if I am wrong....but hasn't this mode been a thing for a long time just dressed up as a new name?

    A fair point but what I am saying is a comparison, this is another iteration of the BR formula shoehorned into yet another MMO. I do not think WOW was as derivative as that.

    what other MMO added a BR mode? i haven't heard of any.
