PVP<<<<really bad idea for a mmorpg. I don't know the reason for every player getting baited into these crap designs,i really don't understand what people are thinking at all sometimes if they are even thinking when jumping into games like this. The funny thing is,as usual i begin to say FFXI did it better. In FFXI there was pvp but 99.9% ever cared about it,we were there to play WITH other players, not against them.Pvp was done by challenging another player first ,your levels had to be near identical so it worked really well and it was done in the game world but in a locked area of a map even though other players could still see every pvp player doing their thing,it was not instanced.
Know why it worked aside from equal levels?
The game was not a gear progression game, your class/character was all about your spells and abilities not your +200 str armor or +100 Int crown. The gear in FFXI was somewhat important but not at all the end all.Gear in the game often had stats like +3 or +6 even at max level. The problem is that games now a days, developers are catering to an easy BAITED player base, give them a carrot to chase, gear,it keeps them coming back for the carrot on a stick and NOT for the game or fun.

$17M is the total I read, and look at the result, the entire process was just one big circus from start to finish. (And its not over yet)
Proving my long held belief devs need at least $20M to deliver a full featured MMORPG with decent quality.
Though in the past few years I've upped my estimate to $30M or so which coincidently is near the planned (alledged) funding for Ashes of Creation. ($35M)

Jordizzle - Went to a shardfall today, came across another player who attacked and killed me with one shot while I was halfway dead from fighting a golem. That costed me 2k to get my equipment back from the ransom system. Not a big deal for me as I've built up some gold through the many releases. .So I then tried to take this player head on after I resurrected, (because I always have to know if I could win in an actual fair situation or not). . and died in 2 spells this time. Lost another 1k getting my items back from the ransom system.
I've been playing off and on since R13, I'm adventurer level 72. If I'm getting one shotted and two shotted like this. . wow. .New players have absolutely no hope in a PVP situation ever. like it's already over before it's even begun bad. Before you say I'm crying about losing in PVP. . I'm not. . and if you think my problem is being defeated then you miss the whole point. I have no concern over that, but the health of the game concerns me. I just don't understand why anyone thought it would be a good idea to create such a giant gap between players at the time of launch. I think not having a final wipe is a bad idea overall. Some will disagree and that's fine!
People saying, it doesn't matter you will catch up.
And people like me who came to the game and look around and FEEL like you are never going to catch up. Regardless of whether you actually can or not, the game is already quite daunting when you realise how much you have to grind if you actually do want to catch up.
No matter whether it is, or isn't. It caters towards the already existing playerbase rather than any new playerbase.
And the matter of fact is, a lot of people are going to be discouraged by that.
They said it themselves, the first 15 minutes is the most important. If you look around it looks like you missed the boat 2 years ago to a lot of new players.
It did not discourage me but there is no denying I felt that exact same feeling. Although I had bigger fears which was the empty lots which I have already voiced my concern about.
It's not even worth debating. Obviously it is the way it is and they aren't gonna wipe it now (lol) just because someone complains about it.
Comments like, "should we wipe on release 2 as well" make me both laugh and despair for the human race. This was obviously the official launch. But Realistically it wasn't. The official launch was Persistance.
Here is a question about perspective.
The PvP charts were wiped for launch. Why? What difference does it really make to a player?
Developers wiped the PvP charts but kept everything else. LOL
Aragon, a mid level can kill anyone if they take the time to learn the people they are fighting. I do PVP Tournaments in this game and its all about skill and knowing what you are fighting. Survival is based on how you setup your character. just going in sword slashing and spell slinging is going to get you killed no matter how high of a level you are.
I have 2 shot people before in tournaments, and have also died in less then 2 seconds from others hands. Doesn't matter how many GM's you have you can still loose to someone with less if you don't know what they are using. There are opposites to everything and skills that can kill you if you don't purify or remove them before taking actions. This is no a simple hack and slash.
Levels do help add a little dmg to your weapons but its known your opponents and having a deck setup to counter, as well the right gear to mitigate physical and spell dmg that matters.
I recommend you find a friend and practice a lot, and or play in the tournaments like virtue league which does not allow use of artifacts to start to see where your going wrong, or what types of opponents you are weaker against then find away to fix that until you can balance yourself out for different battles.
