Had a lot of fun with the STALKER games and Far Cry 3.  I'd like a single-player game.

Do you guys have any recommendations for single-player shooters like these?

Games I tried but didn't get into: Arma 3 (too detailed/realistic). I like realism, but Arma is a bit hardcore. Escape from Tarkov -- loved the guns and early days, but too hardcore for me  now and I don't want a multi-player game. Doom, Quake, etc. Not into the arcade FPS any more.

Doom single player is really good though.  :disappointed:

The Division can be played solo.  NPCs, especially the bosses, are a bit bullet spongey though.
Homefront: the Revolution has it's merits.  Not the greatest thing since sliced bread but it's decent.  Forget the original Homefront though.  It's a very linear and short Call of Duty copy.  If I can finish a game in six-eight hours on the first run through then it's very short.

Neither are as open world as the Fallout, Far Cry, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

If you add in melee oriented open worlds then that adds Mad Max, Assassin's Creed, and the Lord of the Rings Middle Earth titles.

All of the above games except the  Homefront & Fallout series are third person perspective too.

I love The Division. Downloaded Fallout 4, so will give it another spin. Only played about 20 hours a while back. Got Metro on the PS4 and looks pretty cool so far.

I like those games where you can see the spent cartridge come out and hear it when it tings on the ground

If Stalker online wouldnt have had such hardcore PVP I would have loved it...I basically used to play to see how long I could live......I dont like it when games allow other players to just kill anyone without any reason.

That's the hardcore aspect of it. I'm not hardcore though, but I'm glad there's a game for people that are. I'm also solo, and mostly up against groups.

There's a guy named Smoke on Twitch who plays Escape from Tarkov. He's pretty fun to watch. He goes in solo and kills all. It's his job and he's on for hours every day, though. I can't play with people like that, especially in a full loot ffa game.

I played Stalker one and enjoyed it as well but as i learned more about gaming i became much more demanding from developers,so Stalker 2 didn't quite grab me the same.

I would say and likely easily my favorite all time has to be the Half Life series,so odd that with so many people wanting another ,Valve just sits there making millions with Steam instead.

I'm agree with all of you.
FallOut 3 New Vegas.  It`s shooter for me—not RPG. Sorry) FallOut 4 is not bad too.
Plus the Metro games are really good.
I didn't play it. Thanks for recommendation.

Ghost Recon Wildlands hands down. Such an huge open world to explore! My second choice would be Far Cry 2.

I'm currently playing through Far Cry 5.

If you find it on sale.  Mass Effect: Andromeda is a good open world shooter.  It has it's flaws, but it's the best combat system the series has had imo.  So it's still a solid 8/10 for me.  I enjoyed it.

Fallout 4 and/or Destiny 2 are not bad options as well.  Farcry, Borderlands, Ghost recon ghostlands, The Division.

Currently playing Far Cry 5, and it's worth every penny.

Whoever was responsible for the optimization of that game deserves two bonuses.  Running it on a 970 on Ultra and averaging 64 FPS.  Feels even better than The Witcher 3 in the optimization department, and that's saying something.

Yeah, I got it free on PS4 and it's pretty fun. I played a couple of hours and may dive back into it later. I have a harder time playing shooters on the console than the computer, though.

I love Fallout 4, so much so if they ever make Fallout 5 I'll likely have my conciousness downloaded into it.  ;)

Pro tip, spec rifles and get yourself a combat shot gun.....and buy shot gun shells at every opportunity...

Sniping is also terrific, but learn to shoot free hand, much more lethal than using that computerized targeting system.

2ndary spec, heavy weapons to get the computer guided missle launcher. Upgraded there is nothing in game you can't kill quickly at range with it.

Two other tips, invest early and often into stealth, you will thank me later when you can run stealthed in combat armor.

Do not neglect Charisma! Try to put at least 4 or 5 points into it, get the bobblehead and spend 1 more to get 6 points and the local leader perk.

You can easily add 3 or 4 more Charisma points with gear. With a nominal 10 charisma you will pass tons of chat challenges which really opens up your options on who you won't have to shoot. (I "talked" my way past a death claw once)

Also, with local leader you plant and harvest muti fruit at a half a dozen or more settlements,  and soon you'll be able to sell them for thousands daily, and have enough caps to buy anything you need.

Did I mention how much I love this game?

Same here on the shooter on console thing, luckily I got JC3 on pc. Wishing I had got FC5 on pc as well and not the ps4 but a co-worker got it and wants to do co-op but doesn't use pc for gaming.

I got a cheap copy of Max Payne 3 on ps3 a couple of weeks ago and tried playing it and even though its 3rd person and not 1st person I still had trouble. So I fired up my MP3 that I bought on the pc when it released and I was able to get the reticle on 2-4 enemies and fire faster than I was able to get 1-2 on the ps3 version.

Oh btw have you played Max Payne 3 or Deus Ex Human Revolution? Not open world shooters but still fun nonetheless.

The title says open-world shooters but i see a lot of non-open world suggestions so i will just answer in general.

I don't really have a favorite shooter but in Third Person i say the older Ghost Recon games are the closest to my favorite shooters. And in First Person, Metro and Stalker.

Deus Ex is another great series.

I see you played FC3, did you play FC2? if not, totally check it out, that's my favorite FC so far. Even with it's few issues it managed to get my interest more than newer games in the series.

Also, as much as i say #fuckkonami, i recommend Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain, and if you have access to the older MGS games then even better. At least MGS4 if you happen to have a PS3 which still looks great today.

Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider, totally recommend those if you haven't played them. Not open world either, but just like Deus Ex and Metro, maps are big enough to encourage exploration.

Yes, I have this loaded and ready to go. I'm looking forward to this one.
