Conan Exiles News - The latest, if small, update has been deployed to Conan Exiles servers that brings a much-welcome new feature into the game: The AFK System. "This AFK system should help with freeing up space to those who want to get on a particular server" the blog reads.

AFK timers and building decay can have an impact on those that are pulled away in their real lives too. I remember when they first introduced the building decay. A friend and I had just spent a good 50 hours building a nice base, acquiring a ton of thralls and acquiring a nice stockpile of resources. I went on vacation for 5 days and he was out of town as well and when I had gotten back, everything was gone. I have not played this game since. This game is great for those that can play every single day but if you get pulled away because of "adult" things, you are screwed.

You cheat yourself. Start your own server and don't implement destruction option or toggle it off if real life interferes. Easy solution!

This is great news. This will fix a lot of the problems with over crowding on the main servers and having to wait to get into them. I'm sure there will still be a bit of a wait sometimes, but hopefully they can implement a queue system or something so it's easier to get in.

That's probably the best option if you are going away for that period of time. Or build as big of a base as possible, as from what I understand the bigger the base the more time it takes to decay.

I really hope they give consoles the ability to host their own dedicated servers on PC. It's BS that GPortal says its $11 a month to rent a server on Funcoms forums, but it is actually double that at checkout. Not to mention they don't ever seem to have ps4 servers to rent on the US west coast when I check.

They don't require you to use Gportal, you can go through any company willing to host the servers. I actually actively avoided Gportal because their servers are not great. I went with Hosthavoc which was $17 for a 20 slot (which is enough for my group plus a couple more if they show up).  Theres also Survival Servers, Low . ms, Ping Perfect.

EDIT: I'm not 100% sure how many of the hosting sites host PS4 servers though, that might be a problem.

Yeah.. a small group of friends just reloaded this and got a server. Just 6 of us but having fun. It’s been tough getting up for work after playing to 2 or so. But you just found the perfect Thrall or need to make gruel or just need to build something...

We haven’t hit a Purge yet so that has us a bit concerned about whether we will be able to defend all we built.

Are you guys managing your own server settings? The Purge has its own config section with pretty fine-grained tunings.

One thing that stands out about the game is the depth of server configuration possible. You can tweak the server to play the game how the server group wants it to be. I think it's quite powerful. To test for the review I've cranked up XP settings to max and harvest and respawn rates by a bit. I'm not sure if ARK or other survival games offer this level of server customization but I've been impressed by this.

ARK had similar settings, but not as customizable as this. Conan has some really cool settings, I made a few mistakes while setting my server up, that I'm going to have to change today, like our night time lasts a whole 30 seconds. I didn't know you could remove the purge settings though, that's kind of neat.

Yes, Purge is a checkbox in settings. You can also leave all your purge settings in place and active and turn the number of players required to '0' which disables the system. That way you don't lose settings by turning it off and it's quick and easy to enable it again.

That is one of the most powerful settings imo. Say your server is 20 people. You could set purge to be a bit brutal and then require 15 people online at a time before it will activate.
Thanks for the info!  I think all we changed was night because it’s a PITA.  I’ll have to take a look at Purge.  Might be cool to see it once.

This is perfect, been playing on a crowded private server that was doing 5 restarts a day to deal with afker's.

Is 45 min of AFK really the default?
