There’s a theme that, if you look for it, you’ll find threaded throughout Guild Wars 2. From the moment you push back centaurs at Shaemoor to the first steps on Orr and beyond. Guild Wars 2 takes player on epic adventures. Since August 2012, I’ve saved villagers, Slain Scarlet, put down Mordremoth, and faced off against Gods. I’ve survived magical uprisings, the destruction of Lion’s Arch, sinister plots, and I mentioned the time Lion’s Arch was destroyed, right?

You should probably put a spoilers tag in the title of this article.. You kinda went through the entire story of Guild Wars 2 and spoiled a lot of things from each expansion and living story. There are still a ton of players who don't have the expansions yet as the base game is Free.

Being that the Commander is the player character, they can't do much in the way of permanent damage. However, perhaps it is time that the Pact as an organization fall. The most interesting aspects of the Personal Story were the 3 Orders of Tyria, and the Pact damaged the potential of those storylines.

I could see the player character getting separated from Pact forces while sailing to Cantha during the next expansion (assumption on location).  Then having to do an old Guild Wars Factions thing and pick a faction to help them do whatever it is they went to do there.  Potentially having to start from scratch in terms of influence and earn favor from their chosen faction.  Maybe still some communications with the pact to show they're out there using some Asura technology, but as a whole being a lone commando of sorts trying to make the best of a bad situation and recruit locals into a new army.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

This has promise. Perhaps the player character can be tricked into helping the Ministry of Purity stamp out rebel factions, only to discover that the rebels are right. Then the player can ally themselves with the Obsidian Flame, a splinter cell of the Imperial Guard, and potentially even a reformed Am Fah and/or Jade Brotherhood. Plus, while the Kurzicks and Luxons have been destroyed and assimilated by the Imperial government in the lore, perhaps rebel factions could remain. Cantha is absolutely dripping with potential for political intrigue.

Probably the commander designation for playable character, won t last to long, If Net decide to go with a path of shattering completely our friendly relationship with the pact after the stuff we discovered in Pof that will probably will not end up to well to our precious catlady and boy in the pact. It will interesting having the pact and the three orders as a enemy, leading us to make some alliances with some enemies in common that know the risk of you know....

I hate being the chosen one in a massively multiplayer video game where every other passer-by is also the ultimate hero that's destined to save all and bring peace & harmony at last. That's what I like about sandbox mmo's that don't dictate who you are and what you will do along with everyone else. Even Vanilla WoW had a much better player immersion than the infamous simple greatest hero story arcs. Back then you weren't "'THE' COMMANDER" you were just a adventurer. It felt more organic once you grouped up with fellow adventurers and helped each other.

All this said, I'm not HUGELY against it. It's not like I won't bother to enjoy a good story or video game simply because someone else is going to do the exact same thing/go through it with the same experience. I simply prefer more open-ended arcs that can somehow take into account that there are many more "heroes" than just myself in a massively multiplayer role-playing game.

"It's time for the Shepard, the Jedi, and the Commander... to die." Everyone seems obsessed with killing off heroes lately. I don't know how I would feel if the Commander was killed off.

The commander actually already died. You just managed to come back from the dead.
Also, it hurts my feeling to see you miss spell Tybalt 2 times, what would the apples think!

    No spoiler warning..
    Weird concept...
And I simply can't take someone serious who talks about "Tyblat"

Is that meant to be a Russian joke or something?
    Cyka your Tyblat!

Arenanet already tried to kill the commander. Unfortunately, the commander can't even die properly. Maybe he should get corrupted by one oif the dragons. That would open new story lines ansd a complete new experience. But I fear the commander isn't even able to do this in a proper way.

I do enjoy the story. I think it's the longest one I've ever stayed with in any MMO.

Agreed. I was immediately pissed after reading that the two heroes were dead!!!!! I haven't played any of the two expansions yet. :-(

What is considered proper spoiler etiquette? Perhaps MMORPG should do a poll or article on gaming spoilers. I think the middle ground is if you haven't played the game in a year or two but don't want the story to be spoiled then go out and play the game.

This is from a poll conducted at vulture.com couldn't find one on gaming: http://www.vulture.com/2016/05/presenting-the-results-of-vultures-spoiler-poll.html

The primary responsibility to protect or avoid spoilers resides with ...
    Some combination
    41%
Individuals who haven't seen it yet
    37%
People who've already seen the thing and are discussing it online
    11%
Nobody — social media is for instant feedback; discuss away
    11%
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: If you haven’t seen the show/film/sports event yet, stay off social media.
    Agree
    76%
    Disagree
    24%

Kinda hard to "kill" the commander when WE are the Commander.

Unless you mean kill off the title along with the Pact [which has been broken since HoT when Mordremoth all but destroyed it], in which case, i'm all for it. I feel the Pact should end and focus again on the 3 Orders [maybe have Taimi end too so we don't have her ex machina constantly popping up].

I would actually be OK if ANET starts moving away from the "commander" storyline and brings something new where the player character is once again your average Joe Schmoe fighting for the greater good alongside all other Joe Schmoes (players) and not becoming the hero/boss.

How is Arenanet going to kill of my SWTOR character? Seems like they went in same direction. Your SWTOR character becomes leader of a galactic alliance fighting a common foe. that was against Empire and Republic alike. But that foe has been defeated and you went on to deal with a new threat that arose from the ashes of the last battle . You defeated this new threat but lost your massive fleet of space ships in the process. They're going back to Republic vs Empire war. And while you still have a small core of loyal followers you are no longer the Commander of a fleet more powerful than the Republic and Empire.
