The Fanboys Invade!

Well someone went and made the mistake of  posting a link to this forum inthe DDO general forums. Now the fanboys have found out that the posters here dont like DDO. They are invading to flame or attack or counter post all and any who dare utter a word against Turbine or DDO.

Most recent example- Jabbamangus, Gevrik

Beware!

Meh, I had a few sparring matches with the worst of the DDO fanboys on the boards during my free month, and Jabb ain't so bad. he does declare himself a fanboy, but he doesn't really attack people and flame peeps much.

I totally disagree with him on the mess that is DDO, but I never saw him be a prick like some others there.

There are much worse, wait till Dane and lovesmasher show..

There was a guy on DDO named Judgehades on the forums who probably carries the heavyweight championship belt in fighting off the fanbois.

If you keep picking at it ,it won't heal.

I never had any problems with Jabba on the DDO forums.  He was (and is) an unabashed DDO fanboy, but he will admit that the game has problems.  He will also admit that folks who criticize the game are making valid points (when they are, in fact, making valid points).  He'll call you out when you're not.

Gevrik, OTOH, isn't worth the time.  I've stopped reading his tripe.  If he continues to respond to my postings that's his business ... but I personally don't have much time for Pollyannas and won't be reading a thing with his name on it.  If this was Usenet I'd killfile him.

Fanatics can post whatever they want.  Bottom line is that the numbers do not lie.

Go to the boards and post that you think the game lacks content, and you wish there were halberds in the game, or you think the graphics are sub-par. Just for kicks, then count how many times you are told to "go back to WoW" or CIHYS?"

    Read the posts.

I wish not repeat myself, i have it posted already, the whole DDO attitude is just a _reaction_, hence the question who started the flaming...

    Fanatic: Root word: Fan
Go look it up in the dictionary.  It's not even worth debating.  The bottom line is that people have made legitimate and logical statements about DDO's shortcomings and why they find it lacking.

    From Dictionary.Com:
fa·nat·ic   Audio pronunciation of "fanatic"  P   Pronunciation Key  (f-ntk)
    n.
    ()
A person marked or motivated by an extreme, unreasoning enthusiasm, as for a cause.

I have no real axe to grind, I could care less about DDO, it's not what I want in an MMO so I choose not to play it.  It's certainly not worth a Monthly fee to me.  But that's no big, there are much better MMO's that I don't consider worth a monthly fee either...  Matter of fact if the only two games I could play were DDO and WoW I'd probably pick DDO.  But the bottom line is that DDO, as it stands, is not worth my time or my money and I posted my reasons as such.  I got flamed for it despite the fact that I have never flamed anyone who says they like it.   I HAVE called into question the logic of a few people who have posted completely insane reasons that people "should" like it though.

I played it in Beta and stated to the Devs what I thought it's short comings were.   I haven't flamed anyone who likes the game.  I haven't stated that people who like the game are stupid or morons or horrible people.  But I do think they're blinded to the shortcomings of the game due to their fanaticism.  Hell I even try to avoid using the term "Fanboi" and rather use the more literal word: Fanatic in hopes that people see that I'm not trying to flame but rather be descriptive.

Poor Random..he and Gevrik are like the musicians on the deck of the Titanic..forever holding on..Plugging fingers in their ears "Lalalalala..." I can't hear you!" ..as the ship sinks..fighting a hopless cause.

The game is dying a slow painful death..but they will never relent! Fight on, blind slobbering fanboys..fight your noble cause!

Actually I'm not trying to save anything. I know the shortcomings of DDO quite well, and it's not the lack of PvP, not the heavy instancing, not the supposedly bad community (I still feel the community is good, though I know only the eu community). Problem is I came here to discuss the issues of the game, but met agressivity instead, under flame no worthwhile arguments can take place.

I don't have time enough to be a fanboy, nor was I ever fanboy of any game, I just stated some logical views of mine.

Even if I were to sink "loyally" with the ship, which is better? sinking with a ship you kind of like, or hoping for the ship to sink out of bad will.

Bottom line with DDO is: it is not for everybody, and the fact is, it wasn't intendet for everybody, problem occured when those ppl who it wasn't for (not in the least meaning those ppl have any kind of problems) started bashing it relentlessly.

Elnator, you said bottom line is, numbers do not lie. True. But this game was not designed for very high numbers...if it was, then we have a problem. Btw your style of posting is what I feel confortable responding to.

    A couple of questions...

    1.  Can you explain how you know that DDO was not designed for very high numbers?  If you found this from a web page, could you please link it...

    2.  What do you consider very high numbers?  100,000, 1,000,000  5,000,000???

    Random:
It's an online game that cost over $15 million to develop.  It's got 3 stakeholders that have to split the profits:
Atari, Turbine and Wizards of the Coast.  Not to mention any licensing deals involved that further cut into any profits.

It absolutely HAS to have a large player base to continue to run.  And the fact that it offers players so little for their money means it won't.

If it were free to play they might, MIGHT, be able to cut huge profits off box sales, but because it's a subscription based game their box sales aren't even going to be that hot:  Notice they have already had to lower the prices to move inventory?    And if they had an acceptable population a free trial wouldn't already be available either.  This is, literally, the fastest I've ever seen a free trial from an MMO.

No, DDO is in real trouble.  And I'm not saying that because I want them to fail.  I really actually enjoyed AC1 and hoped, even though I doubted, that Turbine would pull off another great MMORPG but the more I read and the more I saw of the game... the more I knew they had messed up in a big way.  It lacks SOOOOO many areas that every other MMORPG offers and the one area it DOES offer lacks content.  That's unforgivable.  There's no world to explore so there should be a TON more quests than there are.  It'll only take the average player about 50 hours of /played time to have played every single quest in the game.  That aint a hell of a lot of time, especially to power gamers.  Heck I know players who will have it done in under a week, back before I got married and had kids I was one of them.

    Bottom line:  Numbers don't lie
Bottom line 2:  DDO has to tripple split it's profits between 3 masters
Bottom line 3:  Everyone I know who was in the beta and, I'm serious, everyone I know who has bought the game has cancelled it and said it's not worth a monthly fee.  That is telling.  These are guys who play AD&D at night.  Many of them were REALLY looking forward to this game.  Just like I was.  I don't WANT it to fail I feel it will though, unless some radical changes are made to it, and soon.
