If your a Must have all things Star Wars? Yes. If not? No. Wait for an expansion or two for them to maybe fix all the bugs still in it, from back in beta. Also for skills that arent working to actualy start working. And from other posts i've seen as of late for Tech support that isnt rude and ignores you.

IMHO this game IS worth buying, even if your not a SW fan. If you like games, buy this one.
The first month is free. You can subscribe for 3 months or so. Then stop subscribing until the space expansion. This way you'll be ahead of players who start later.
Right now SWG has some incredible game features -
1. The most advanced market system of any MMORPG.
Sell, and buy items while you're offline. Or off adventuring.
2. Players can build, furnish, and design their own houses. Which come in different sizes.
3. Tons of differeent wildlive you can capture, then tame as pets. Get them when they're babies, and watch them grow!
4. Use genetic engeneering to make mutant pets.
5. If you join the major factions, you get special faction perks. (Imperial players get their own private army for example.)
6. SWG has dynamic spawning. There is almost zero camping.
7. Items made by new players, resources found by new players, are wanted by everyone. New player have a nice chance at making money almost as well as vet players.
8. You can mine resources, etc... while you're offline, or off adventuring. (If you create and build the right machines.)

I definately think this game is worth buying. All the bad reviews and everything are because the game was released too soon, but now it has had time to grow and get better. With tons of new features being added like vehicles and all the updates they are talking about, it's looking like SWG is finally on the right track to success.
There is a reason that SWG is not rated in even in the Top 20 MMORPGs by the people on this site. It's a horrible game. Not bad for eye candy, but horrible as a game. See that 5.4 rating for customer service? That's becasue Sony Online has the worst customer service team most of us have ever experienced. The developers delete any message from the message board that isn't at least somewhat worshiping of the developers. Tickets you turn in simply don't get answered.
I didn't just not re-subscribe. I completely un-installed SWG from my hard disk. I have no intention of dealing with any game SOE runs again. I don't care how many months of free Planetside they want to try to bribe me with. I'm done with them.

Yet you had a bad experience with the game. I think the person who thinking of buying this game should make his own decision. To me rather then listen to other ppls experience with the game you should just visit the site and read up on it and see if its what your looking for in a mmorpg. Like me i like the game because there is no lvls in it and there are just experience points for your profession. Thats what i think about mmorpgs make your own decisions, not let others.
Honestly and whole hearted it's up to you. Look into all the future updates and the things they have implemented now. This game right now is around 4 to 5 months old. Still young for a MMORPG. This game has HUGEpotential (For those out there that think I might be a fan boi. I hate the SW series).
Later this month I am going to go out and get this game. I've tried it out and it's gotten a lot better from when it first came out. Definitely worth a shot if you ask me. Good luck man!

1. The real reason SWG is not "rated in the top 20 at this site" is because MMORPG.com is not a major gamer site. This here site is still new.
Go to Stractics.COM and see where SWG stands.
2. It does not matter if SWG never makes it on the top 100 list of ANY gamer site. SWG has over 300K accounts and is still growing. SWG is a successfull MMORPG.
I can stop here. But I want to list some other real life hardcore examples of products having phenominal success without being listed on top 10, top 20, top 40, or on any charts:
Nice example from real life. There's a famous rapper named Ice Cube. Top 40 radio stations in America have always had a problem being honest about the fact that all American music comes from Black American culture. (Elvis was not allowed on the radio at first because they though he was an American Black man.).
With zero radio play, no listing on any top 40 charts, no listing on Billbord top charts, Ice-Cube's albume (the one with the song "Bird in the Hand", "Us", "No Vaseline" ) debuted at the number 1 spot in America. No artist, or albume in history has ever done this significant thing. To open at the number 1 spot in albume sales in America with zero radio play.
(It went on to stay in the top 10 for over 6 months.)
It's the actuall sales of the product that ultimatly counts.
The movie Blair Witch Project is another example. It first played for 1 year at indy movie theatres. It had no advertising, and was not listed on any major top 10 movie charts. It had no national advertisement. It would go on to become one of the biggest hit movies for 2 years straight.

Bad customer service does not mean a bad game though. I would like to hear some facts as to why it is a bad game, not just customer service. Because I have never personally had any trouble with any customer service on any game I have ever played (I have played alot of games).
It sounds like most of the people that have given this game a bad review have only played the game for a very short time, shortly after release. It may have been a bad game then, but I believe it will very soon (within about a months time), be one of the best if not the best MMORPG out at this time.
But of course it all comes down to your play style and what you like to do.
This game is definitely worth buying. As it has been stated it is not completely finished, however its still a great game. Many people complain about the game having very little content and not much to do. I disagree with this fact completely. Games like EQ and DAoC basically force you to be a combat type class, going out, leveling, and getting aggravated sometime. SWG gives you options, you can live the safe life of playing an instrument or dancing or something like that. So you don't really get burned out on leveling like on some other games. A lot of people bash the heck out of SOE for their technical support and 'failure to respond' to technical support issues. I will agree with that fact, however, as far as the ratings go, on the biggest MMORPG's of all time EQ is number one and SWG is second to that. That is the bottom line, which should tell you something about SOE right there. They may not be completely dedicated to responding to issues immediately, but the majority of the time they listen to the general public, unlike Mythic. Overall I rate the game great for the casual or hardcore gamer, and especially for the Star Wars fans.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I quit playing about a couple weeks back for several reasons:
1) Bad Customer Service...duh!
2) The Graphics run so high that if you don't have the top of the line, best graphic card made within the last year you will be spending more time waiting for crap to load or your character to stop lagging than actually playing the game. Don't even think of PvP battles without it.
3) The more updates they come out with the more buggy the game gets. It wasn't actually that bad before the last major expansion came out (player cities/mountables). I didn't have many bugs before that, but now I got bugs galore. I would have to restart the game atleast 3 times a day because of them.
4) I don't know where there is more and more people getting accounts for this game. Cuz i've seen more and more people dropping their accounts. Maybe it was just the servers I was on, I don't know. But the towns that were once thriving with people are becoming ghost towns.
5) Imperials are racist and SOE doesn't tell you that. I was a Bothan and descided to go Imperial. Well after I had -5000 rebel faction points I find out that non-humans pay more for Imperial Pets. HOW NICE! Atleast they could warn you before that. Plus with the expansion they really lowered stats on alot of things like the AT-ST's
I guess if you want to pay to beta test then go ahead and buy it now. There is a chance that maybe 6 months from now if people are still playing I might go back but SOE needs to get their crap together first and the bugs and lag needs to be fixed also.

SWG was created for Star Wars fans first in mind.
Every Star Wars fan knows the Imperials are XENOPHOBIC . "A fear of species who are not like you."
(Racist is when 2 species that are the SAME don't like each other.)
It's like playing EverQuest and wondering why Hobbits are kill on sight to Trolls. Learn a bit of background of the game universe before playing.
First of all, I played this game during beta and for 4 months after release. I really enjoyed it for a while, but the devs constantly made huge mistakes in design, bugs, and balancing. Regardless of what anyone says, the devs don't listen to the playerbase. They do what they want when they want. There are at least 5 broken professions (by broken I mean that you cannot use skills, get needed items, or sell products made by your character, which is no fun!). Chef, Droid Engineer, Carbineer, Melee professions all are absolutely useless (I know because I've played them all).
Also, most players camp for holocrons (which show you the path to jedi), which has ruined the economy. The market system sucks, (there's no way to search on a particular item, give me a fucking break, eve online had that at least). Also, all of the good stuff is on player vendors, so if you want to buy something decent, you better reserve about an hour running around hunting for a master's shop.
Oh yeah, the player base is no where near 300k anymore, if it ever was. Cities are vacant, bugs, unbalanced game mechanics, virtually no galactic civil war, two kinds of quests (go kill something or deliver this) both of them one step missions, etc etc...
Strathador said, "I think the person who thinking of buying this game should make his own decision. To me rather then listen to other ppls experience with the game you should just visit the site and read up on it and see if its what your looking for in a mmorpg."
How lucky you must be to have someone who will throw $50 at every gaming whim you have. How fortunate you are. The rest of us must be a little more realistic. KBKiller specifically asked at the top of this thread if SWG was worth purchasing. Those of us who don't have unlimited supplies of cash from wealthy relatives are forced to use reviews, ratings and feedback to weed out the bad gaming choices. SWG is a BAD gaming choice. The majority of the gaming classes are broken. The game has devolved into a "pokemon-style" pet war. The only means for becoming jedi is massively camped by hordes of high level players who sell these key items on E-Bay for hundreds/thousands. The forums have almost as many moderator-tombstoned threads as active ones.
Before all is said and done, SWG will be the most spectacular, high-budget failure in the history of gaming.

"...you just #@*&$% with the wrong rhino, pal!" - Smoochy
Geez, even your examples are badly biased. Here's the review of the mentioned Ice Cube album on amazon.com...
"Amazon.com With benefit of hindsight, we now understand that most rappers are indeed earnest, but few intend their words to be taken with the same weight as a heartfelt proclamation by a guitar-strumming folkie. Ice Cube's third solo release, taken the wrong way, is a hateful tract full of misogyny, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and violently prejudicial remarks toward just about every other ethnic group; anyone missed in this skein was an oversight. However, with the exception of some choice words for NWA's former manager, Cube's remarks are best seen as caricatures--well, OK, grotesques--rather than perspectives. His spoken intros and the way in which the songs broke into episodes broadly hinted at Ice Cube's move into film. Years later, it's easier to ignore the hateful spew and admire the formal innovations featured on this recording, which helped make Ice Cube into a multimedia star. --Martin Johnson"
So the reason Ice Cube got no airplay at that time was because the songs on the album were not broadcastable. No station is going to play lyrics that appear prejudiced, period.
Now enough of Ice Cube and back to SWG.
SWG still has some people playing it for one reason. The Star Wars license. Period. The people that are sticking around are doing so praying that some miracle will happen so that they can game in a Star Wars environment. You could send nothing but a dial tone and a test pattern through the servers, and get 200,000 Star Wars Fan-Boys to re-up every month. The ONLY reason SOE continues to generate any sales at all with SWG is because they have a piece of paper from George Lucus that allows them to call this piece of drek Star Wars Drek.
By the way, killerTwinkee and xplororor are so blatently biased regarding SWG that it's clear they are demented SW Fan Boys that will have fatal conniption fits if they don't have their intraveneous drip of some Star Wars products OR they have the PCs camped at the holocron spawn points as we speak trying to making cash auctioning holocrons on E-Bay. Either way, they are not sources of good feedback regarding this product.

You hardly have to be a Star Wars geek. Anyone who has watched any Star Wars movie could figure out what the empire was like.

Again, Star Wars Galaxies was created first for Star Wars fans in mind.
Not gamers, not Tolkien fans, not Star Trek fans, not Dune fans, etc.... in mind aka as the intended audiance.
Second in mind aka the intended audiance are gamers, Star Trek fans, Dune fans, Tolkien fans, etc...
Before I played EverQuest, one of my friends had me check out the Lord of the Rings books, and some D&D lore. After I played EQ it was no surprise when Trolls came after my Elf, or when I saw Ogres eating Dwarves, or when Hobbits were kill on sight to Trolls.
You don't have to "speak Wookiee" aka be a "SW geek" to know Imperials are Xenophobic.
In the first SW movie, when Han and Luke are leading their "prisoner" Chewie around the Imperial stronghold, the Imperials say "Where are you going with this... this... thing?!?"
Meaning they have a distaste for non-humans, they know little about non-humans, they rarely see non-humans that are alive.
BTW, look up xenophobia in the dictionary. It defines how the Imperials feel - a dislike for non-humans aka a dislike for anything not of their own species.
The first quote that started this said the Imperials were racists. A racist dislikes those of their own species. In the SW universe this occured between the Mon Calamari and the Quarrans. Both are from the same planet, have the same ancestors, but don't get along with each other. Even though they get along with other species.
(They recently came together in peace and now help each other.)
If the Dune MMORPG ever gets made, players who want to "get a leg up" will defianatly read the books. If the Lord of the Rings MMROPG ever gets made, same thing.
All that's needed to "get a leg up" in SW lore is to invest 6hrs of time viewing the first 3 movies
"Star Wars: A New Hope", "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back", "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi".
No need to read the SW Encyclopedia, or learn how to speak Wookiee.
(and... it is Star Trek fans who go that far! LOL. )

If you must get it wait for another year when the space expansion comes out. The only good thing about this game is the graphics. Everything else is rancid
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
I think people just lost the aspect of rpg now days people seem to play and only thing that matters is items and pp like in eq that game lost the aspect of rpg ages ago now it nothin but farming and earnin cash.this game i havnt played yet but it seems a whole lot technical than almost any other game ive read or played so far so expect me to be in it.SWG seems also be a game for the pure computer game geek thats not a bash because im a game geek myself.
no no no , after a short time, i was bored out of my mind. the star wars setting only gets you so far before you realize there is not much substance behind the game. waiting for middle earth online and ultima 10.

So... please tell me which of my above 8 points is not true ?

Do yourself a favor, don't buy this game

Geez, even your examples are badly biased. Here's the review of the mentioned Ice Cube album on amazon.com...
"Amazon.com
With benefit of hindsight, we now understand that most rappers are indeed earnest, but few intend their words to be taken with the same weight as a heartfelt proclamation by a guitar-strumming folkie.

Excuse me for not being able to speak Wookie. But I don't think you should have to be a Star Wars Geek to be able to play the game. But I guess according to xplororor you better go out and buy the SW Encyclopedia to play this game.
And as for xenophobic, if you want to be picky, means fear of something strange for foreign, not the fear of a talking animal.

LOL. )
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
