While the world has been watching and waiting for the news that’s coming out of E3, there’s been another event that’s been grabbing attention. FFXIV’s newest Ultimate-series raid, The Weapon’s Refrain, is here, and the game’s top raid groups have been vying to be the first to clear. It’s been an absolutely crazy week on XIV Twitch watching this unfold, with people discovering what worked — and, indeed, what didn’t work — with each passing hour.

I've very impressed with the ultimate fight so far, which is an excellent reuse of assets, unfortunately those rewards, which is a recurring problem with FFXIV. They make really good fights but the rewards are just not there and honestly would require an entire rework of the gearing system or some huge additions in order to make things worth the hassle.

As for the greed only, I really would love to know who thought that was a good idea in the first place because it sounded like it was suggested by a stoner so "everyone has a chance at winning" or some garbage like that. Play the class and earn the need roll if it drops, simple stuff or just go pure individual loot with a class specific option so you can play what you want while getting the loot you want.

I wish I could experience it, but I just can’t bring myself to complete hundreds of hours of story quests from the expansions I bought to see the new content. Maybe that doesn’t apply to raids, but I purchased expansions and was disappointed that I couldn’t just hop right in and experience the new stuff, I wasn’t caught up on the story :( that’s my personal downfall for XIV. Otherwise I did enjoy the time I spent in the game.

There's a minor problem I have with your logic. A major of players (usually of the casual variety) hate when developers waste time and assets on something new for the top 1% of the game's community (usually the hardcore raiders). This particular type of content is really only meant for those kinds of people, so would you rather they waste money on something that only a small fraction of the community will experience or use old assets and overlaping mechanics to shut that small percentage up? Now, going back to what I was saying about rewards, a large portion of the community honestly won't bother with this kind of content mainly because the rewards are not worth the hassle. Bahamut only gave you a gold version of the old raid weapons with an extra materia slot (lolmateria system) but the same ilvl as the last savage raid boss. Humans will always float to what is easier if the results are the same or minorly inferior.

Wouldn't have to if they weren't designing like WoW with content that is planned quarterly obsolescence.

That is the overall flaw behind the game: lack of forethought. Only real difference between WoW and FFXIV is XIV is more shallow, WoW still has the same issue as XIV but does a better job at covering it up by "set-bonuses" blah blah to make it more appealing. However, Blizzard keeps raising the floor as they raise the ceiling so as long as you keep playing, you'll always be in range of the most hardcore. Personally, I hate that people can't be left behind in mmorpgs anymore since devs can create some impressive stuff, which only get used for a few months until they are forgotten. Its like they dont understand that if they create cohesive elements, then they have less work for themselves in the long run since stuff remains relevant for longer. But I guess we live in a generation where short attention spans are common place so people will be bored unless they get something new every few months. Quantity over quality is this generation's motto.
