On the other hand, it certainly won't survive if it's released prematurely.
The wait sucks, but is a necessary evil.
Don't get caught up in this being an EQ clone.. it's a spiritual successor, I believe there was a vanguard class that played very close to this. I wouldn't say it's a miss, Noone has played the class.. and if they have, they can't tell you about it yet.
This is crazy. Whats next? Letting women moderate forums and write articles?
Lets see - a blood themed evil tank that cant use a shield, can use 2 hand weapons and specializes in self healing and mitigating magic attacks.
Hmmm. Sounds a lot like a Blood Death Knight from WoW.
Hopefully, the Dire Lord doesnt have the same drawbacks as WoWs DK.
The first thing developers do to make raid bosses harder is by giving them more health and do more damage. Several times now in the end of expansion raids the Death Knight was at a severe disadvantage compared to the board and sword tanks because the DK had less armor which was a consequence of having a lot of self healing. Which meant that the DK was couldnt take the increased damage from the new raids bosses as well and their self healing didnt compensate. Blizzard had to buff the DK in these instances just so they wouldnt die to auto attacks and this has led to a roller coaster ride of ups and downs with the DK going from the worst tank to the best tank and back constantly over the years.
And this is where the Dire Lord comes in, who can only wear up to Chain Mail armor. The Warrior and Paladin can both use Full Plate armor and shields which will give them a lot more armor than the Dire Lord. Lots of self healing and more DPS from a 2 hand weapon is great for dungeon but doesnt help much in raids because of the huge increase of damage received from physical attacks.
Recently, in WoW Legion they introduced another tank that specializes in self healing and mitigating magic damage with the Demon Hunter but the are having problems with the most difficult raid bosses because their self healing isnt compensating for the increased damage they take. Yeah, its like Blizzard didnt learn their lesson.
I hope Virtual Realms is ready to tackle this head on because balancing the self healing tank is no easy task.
But, these are just the rambling thoughts of someone that always gravitates to the self healing tank only to get burned.
The Warrior sounds like it will be the main tank for most fights. Paladin the all around tank, and Dire Lord as more of a speed tank (this is assuming that he will be more offensive).
over 20 years of mmorpg's and counting...
Thats the "problem" of kickstarter games. You know about their existence from the very beginning and then it seeems like eternity for them to release. Especially since the big publishers now try to keep things under wraps as long as possible to reduce the feel of waiting to year or less.
There are at least another 2 good years ahead before Pantheon is ready.
