It states on their website No more levels and classes and quest grinds! As you explore the world you learn new skills and perfect them.

Is it still open world, non-consensual PvP?

(My son speaking to his Japanese Grandmother) " Sorry Obaba, I don't speak Japanese, I only speak human."

I bought this game like 5 months back. If you like Ultima Online, you're likely going to love this. Especially since there is a fan made server with Ultima rules/spells/monsters/ etc..

Anyone know if when it's Open Beta everyone can join?

I'd like to try this one out, but alas I don't have invite. And I would like to try the game out before investing money on it.

No, it is currently $30 to play, but closed Beta is drawing to an end soon. I would assume open beta will follow after.

Last I played, not that long ago, there simply wasn't a lot to do in-game.  Hopefully, they don't let it stay that way with the excuse of "it's a sandbox, make your own content."  I'll probably try it again when it hits open beta.

....that's exactly what they SHOULD say. People seem to think you must be led around by the nose in these games now. Pick up a pick, mine some ore, make some weapons and armor, tame a horse, ride to a cave, kill the boss, get phat loots, buy a house. Rinse. Repeat. Maybe kill some murderer characters along the way or become one yourself.

Not every game requires towns full of NPCs with '!' above their heads.

A friend and I tried this recently but we couldn't find a social panel in the game . I am not sure if we were missing something but I play mmo's partly for the social experience of them and if there is no way of adding friends in a clear intuitive way it seems a rather strange design choice .

Perhaps its something they intend to add later maybe ?

I agree , its something I liked about Shroud of Avatar that you had to talk to lots of different NPC's to get the quests but unlike that game this doesn't seem to have many NPC's in towns that give quests at the moment .

Yeah, they seem to be lacking on social stuff at the moment. You can use the world channel, but even that is clunky. They need to add more channels....like an auction channel, and maybe a new player channel or something.

This game reminds me more of Asheron's Call than UO, which is a positive for me at least. It still needs work, but what is there is pretty solid, especially the rpg systems.

In theory, making your own content and fun sounds great.  In reality, it gets boring for most people, fast.

The problem with the "make your own content" argument is many sandboxes give you a shit ton of sand but no tools to actually make compelling content with. I played a bit with the Bring a friend invite system and I was done playing after a couple of days; it's got a lot of great ideas but it also suffers from a huge lack of real depth.

It looks like this is part of what the devs are working on and I hope that they succeed because the game is solid and works well with fairly few bugs and a very nice style to it.

eh real content is made with "bare hands" for example... EvE is a make your own content game, sure there are some "tools" now to help but it used to be just raw sandbox content.
