Recommendations for an MMORPG for now?

TheStryderHDTheStryderHD Member UncommonPosts: 41
I am a long time EQ player, loved SWTOR and even really enjoyed Darkfall: Unholy Wars, I'm looking for a game I can do lots of fun PvE with some friends online and have some really cool PvP (Warzones or BGs) also, I have tried BDO and it's not bad but really missing dungeons, raids and stuff like that. I went back to SWTOR recently and it's ok lacking in population and it's alright. Anything you guys would recommend taking into account the last MMO' I really enjoyed?

Bless is preparing for its US launch later this year, probably good for some fun.

As for now, ESO as mentioned, or GW2.

I played GW2 at launch and it was alright, the combat was kind of blah to me, is it any better now? Is there good group PvE content? It might be time to revisit it. I've been looking at Bless Online and I really like the RvR and stuff I've seen in that, I hear it's coming out pretty soon, anything else out there as well?

Didn't rift come out with a new server? You could try that or you could try Archaege, I hear it came out with a new server.

You could also try neverwinter but it has P2W elements, but has good combat and it is actually kind of fun in a way. Shallow, but fun.

It's coming "early access" so unless you temper your expectations for its revamp you might be disappointed.

ESO if fun.  It's one I can jump in and out of with ease.

it might sound like a weird choice, but if your into PVP with a few friends, you might want to try The Division, the game has improved drastically since launch, honestly Bungie could learn from this, but no hope there, if you have some RL friends to play with, i'd seriously consider giving it a go. ;)

Based on what you requested and seem to care about I would concur with those saying ESO. It's a very solid game for those looking for the themepark experience, recent enough the visuals look good, has a lot you can do with nothing more than the initial game purchase, and I find the combat more engaging than your general themepark / find the character customization waaaay more interesting than SWTOR.

Not really looking for a theme park experience, I want to level and play with a friend and maybe others and be able to do some cool PvP battlegrounds/warzones also, stuff like that

Vanilla World of Warcraft on private server....... Don't let anyone tell you it has bugs, because it has about 3 broken quest, and one broken boss in Ultaman  in all the years I've been playing it !

That is prettymuch the themepark experience. Most sandboxes tend to be PVE content light and rely more on Open World PvP than BG/WZ.

At least every game I can think of that really fits that bill is a themepark. Especially the most polished ones.

If you were looking for a more sandbox experience I could suggest EVE or Life is Feudal but neither really seem to be what you are asking for.

You must have the wrong site....This one only discusses what is coming in 5 years if ever, not what we can play now!

Give FFXIV a try. It's got a bit of everything you're asking for.

Although ESO is a theme park, it offers much more player choice than is typical.

There is a main story, but you can choose what pace you pursue it at. Due to the scaling of content, you can choose to adventure where you want, rather than the game dictating what content is available to you.

There are a plethora of side quests, generally with several chained steps that make for a small story of their own, often making them more interesting than those of other games. In addition, there are several NPC guilds you can join that have their own stories and increase character customization options, if you desire.

In many ways, most theme park games are like modern lego sets, pretty slick but limited by their predefined purpose, where ESO is much more like the older ones. You still have preset pieces, but you have much more freedom to put them together as you like, with the ability to leave out or include some of the more unique ones at your whim.

The Elder Scrolls Online or Guild Wars 2.
Both have new content on regular basis, great population and plenty of PvE content to enjoy.

Whoa, there is a recommendation I had better retract,  can't recommend Bless at this point, half baked mess that likely will see little improvement by the time it comes out of its early access / "beta" phase later this year.
