Fun included

This game looks like it will be fun as hell!

Most mmos these days are merely a frankenstein's monster of features. Come play ___; we have a this, a that, and a whatnot. Batteries not included. Fun not included either. They may as well be advertising a friggin washer and dryer. This model has front loading, energy efficient, LED panel, ... /yawn.

I honestly don't know what various features Warhammer will have and I already don't care. Just looking at this game makes me want to dive right in and see/do it all, whatever it is. Finally a game company found a Dev team that gets it - if you make a fun game, you won't have to hard sell a list of junk.

I'm looking to this game to put the fun back into mmorpgs.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Well if it's really like Warhammer and allow for truly massive attacks on cities and such  ,battle system is quick(like GW) and there is enough content to satisfy the PvPers and the PvEers then I dont see why not. Oh and hopefully there will be no level grind or at least a much smaller one

I do too hope that they will include "fun" in WAR, not too much tough. For example.. In AO, in noob island, there is the freaking parrots and rats etc. Me and my friends cracked to a parts when we saw them first time. If I remember right, rat name was something like Beach Leet and those parrots askd "are you leet" and said like "Give me your sword" etc. Plus those rats which rolled when they attacked and made wierd sound

As far as leveling goes in WHFRP upon which I think this game is based you don't level exactly...

You start out with a noob career, which has specific attribute bonus' and skills  which you can pick up by spending your xp until you exhaust the bonus' and skills you can buy or you want to move on to the next carreer. 2nd teir carreers have skill and attribute pre-requisites which may require you to go through several 'Noob" carreers in order to buy the pre-requisite skills. And so on and so forth, in the pen and paper version you might progress from being a "bandit" to a "tomb robber" to an "assassin" or something like that ... for example...

the PVP grind offers a lot of possibilities, also help a lot of those PVE'ers not into PVP'ing break into the habbit

Yea I know that it could offer possibilties I simply dont want it to be like the honor grind that plagues WoW
Which I think we can all agree is a pain in the ass.

i believe the "level" grind will be very low and the pvp grind very high...somewhat like DAoC's PvP grind I've been playing the game for 5 years im still not the highest rank

So can you touch on character advancement at all?

No levels. Four tiers, with ranks within each tier. You'll have 4 XP bars that allow you to select "packages" of advancements - abilities, static buffs, skills, etc. that you want to work on. Three will be "standard" bars, one will be RvR-specific.

The packages allow you to select advancements that interest you without level-locking them. So, if you're a big fan of exploring and you want to get a mount earlier than - say - an improved combat ability, you can choose a package that includes the ability to use a mount. Packages will have SOME restrictions - most likely tier-specific - but they offer players the ability to wind up with all of the stuff they want eventually, but also the ability to get it in the order of their choosing.

    and

Leveling Grinds have been getting shorter and shorter, will Warhammer continues this trend?

By offering full-blown PvE and RvR in every tier, we hope to make the process essentially painless for most players. Nothing depresses our world designers more than the idea that people might blow through 80% of the stuff they hand-craft with love and disturbingly intense affection to get to the last portion of the game.

They've said that the game mechanics are not based on either the tabletop or PPRPG game, and what they've released about them doesn't look at all like the PPRPG version. They're taking the background info from WHFB, but no mechanics at all. Which I think is good, trying to mutilate some existing rules to another genre tends to produce bad results.

Also, I can't say this enough either:

The character advancement will be a career based system, like in the p&p RPG - but not necessarily the same thing, which would be very hard to implement in a MMO. The careers will be different, too - there is no place in WAR for a PC ratcatcher. It is WAR, after all :)
