Three people, three stories, and one demon are mysteriously bound together by a strange hooded man. The events started 300 years ago when the God-slayer sword struck down the God-empress of the Garulian empire. Now mortal adversaries fight together for survival. This is our Shadows: Awakening preview impressions.

On one hand, I do appreciate that this game is trying to innovate. On the other hand, I have to wonder if the puppet switching mechanics risk ruining the entire purpose of the genre. Character identity and customization are the bread and butter of an ARPG, and this risks lessening that.

Found this game today on Steam. Hopefully, it may replace Diablo3 (for me) - which is a bit too old and too simple.

    Thank you for your time!

This is the remake of the shadows heretics. Anyone that owns that game already has this added to there steam library. The devs had lost the rights to the game but got it back and this is what they are doing. The original was a good game, with a different approach. Overall I give any dev that gives customers that had bought the original game, their new remake for free a dev worth giving some support.

The fact that it's only single player is no good for me unfortunately, there won't be enough re-playability for me to purchase this as I only play multiplayer games.

Something against Path of Exile? A bit more complex than your D3.

It presents the illusion of complexity, nothing more. Ultimately the passive skill tree is just a needlessly complicated way to put points into your attributes. And unless you have a ton of free time to constantly reroll characters due to the lack of respecs, in PoE you use an established build.

I'll take the slightly simpler but far more accessible and flexible D3 skill system over PoE's any day.

Hooray, getting it for free on GoG! Great news, the original game was pretty fun tbh.

PoE = dated character graphics + inability to skip campaign / storyline. Cannot really play the same quests more than couple times, even though I liked them a lot.

    Thank you for your time!

I would like to suggest Grim Dawn. It's my go to ARPG since it was released.
I'm one of those guys that didn't like D3 aswell.
    Cheers.

Also, god-awful skill animations.  That's what put me off the most.

The other Heretic Kingdoms games were a lot of fun, so this is a "buy" for me.

These games have never been the type of ARPG Grim Dawn is. There's less emphasis on theory crafting and more hack'n'slash action. I like them because they're fun without being overly complex.
