Hmmm, another game I'd never heard of is closing down. Am I out of touch?

I wouldn't say out of the loop, but I was actually interested in this game ,it looked pretty cool.

possibly, I mean, I've heard of gigantic but also knew they were having problems. Maybe others didn't know about it and that's the crux of their issue.

Yes, yes you are. It was partnered with Microsoft as the first "requires Win 10" game on PC. A huge debacle came from that alone. Then they made it not require through a service of some kind....delays ensued on the most part of the game...maps were too large and travel time too much, on top of overly long matches. The game's design eventually killed itself off in a time of Battleground games that have matches lasting 5 minutes or less vs. 45+ minutes for a Gigantic one.

Gigantic just came two years too late. Had it launched significantly before Overwatch, it might have been a hit. Unfortunately, due to a bad deal with Microsoft and other financial issues, Gigantic was massively delayed and valuable development resources that could have been spent making a bigger game were wasted on Windows 10 porting and exclusivity, an early XBox One port, and then Arc support.

I feel bad for Motiva. They had a great idea and got fucked at every step along the way.

Once Blizzard joins a particular genre, everything that comes out afterwards face imminent death.

We have seen it with post WoW mmos, post Diablo ARPGs, post Hearthstone card games, and now post Overwatch hero shooters.

I don't even know how to feel about this anymore. It almost looks like every modern online game directly competes with Blizzard in some way.

I would think if Blizzard joins battle royale it would take a massive chunk from Fortnite's playerbase/profit as well.

    My thoughts.

    EDIT: whatever happened to creativity...

Games closing always make me sad, I loved being in this game the first time and a few times after that regretting now I hadn't stuck it out to see it succeed. I hope everyone from the studio land on their feet. All the best to all of them.

Let's be honest. That only happened because Blizzard's long term support for Diablo 3 has been an embarassment. It's kind of easy to dethrone the champ when the champ is sitting on the couch eating nachos and shitting himself.

Well if we have to be honest the "champ" isn't even in the same league with PoE. Even if they spent more resources on D3 I doubt that it would've been better simply because everything D3 have to offer is mediocre when you compared to what PoE have to offer and btw this is coming from a guy who has been living and breathing "Blizzard" daily since Warcraft III Reign of Chaos came out. I literally have at most 20-30 days of not logging in a Blizzard game for the past 16-17 years. No matter how much I like Blizzard I can never say that D3 is even remotely close to PoE. D3 is like the $#%^&@ed cousin of PoE in the ARPG genre.

To be honest I was very excited and followed this game during development. I watched the conferences were they would introduce the team and I would constantly visit the website and would check my emails to see who latest playable characters were. Then all of a sudden they said it was windows 10 exclusive, and that's when I had to say goodbye. At the time I was happily using windows 7 and I just felt that it was unnecessary for me to upgrade my OS just for one game. I thought it was some sales pitch for Microsoft and it just irritated me. On top of that it took foreverrrrr to be released. Farewell Gigantic, you will be missed and I hope this will be a learning experience for future developers.
