League of Legends News - For all of us that have been breathlessly speculating about the possibility that Riot Games might be making an MMO, well, the joke's on us. Turns out that the Twitter post sent out by Riot Co-Founder Marc Merrill is something of a joke. North American Communications Director Justin Kranzl told Variety, "He was being playful around the release of this world map and wants to encourage our players to think of what Riot's long-term goals could look like."

    Weren't they recruiting a while back DEV's for a new Riot Project? This might not be just a joke.

    However i don't get excited about these things anymore, it's just more of the same lately.

    As for Riot, I would certainly like to see their take on an MMO(RPG). We gotta get a good one, one of these days, right?! Right...?

    Hmm, maybe just quick interest check...
    Then again, I'm sure they know a lot of people would like to see a LoL MMO... doesn't mean that making one would be a good investment for them as a company.

    MMO players are a pretty fickle bunch that nitpick and find reasons to torpedo every new title right off the bat. Plus I can imagine it being more than a little daunting to compete with giants like WoW, ESO, FF14, GW2 and other MMOs that have so many years of a headstart that they are packed full with features and content a new game would have a really hard time matching.

    LoL lost 20% players in Q2 to Fortnite (judging by amount of Twitch viewers) - producers start being playful. Or maybe desperate? Cause few more quarters like that - and Riot may actually go belly up or at least replace the producers.

    Meh, I never was too interested....if they were only considering creating a MMO likely would be 3 to 6 years until launch, far too far out for me to care

    On behalf of the gamer everywhere I for one and will say not that gamers "want" to put the hate on every new mmo that shows up nowadays. The fact is every new mmo been doing the same crap over and over pass years. They all tried the founders crap, most of those game would close down 6 month to a year runtime. On release the game is half brake its more buggy than a nest of ants. The cost of cosmetic all are on par with some full game price tag. And the list of all sort other crap they pull over the years so how can any gamer be happy with or accept such abuse after all this time?

    No one have the need to flame something if that said thing was a good thing. Anyway, as for the little joke, the only reason they even Twitter such thing is when your game is getting old. They gonna have to make a new game regardless. Like all games, most ppl can not only play one game forever when there are soo many others. I'm willing to stick my neck out and say most ppl prefer to PvE than PvP at the end of the week. I can never think a PvP game is a relaxing game at the end of the day. So Riot Games can joke all they want, but every game company will need another new game.

    'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless. 

    It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

    It is just huge resource waste....'

    I was told this wasn't the first time that happened and they noticed his mistake and wanted to really cover it up 'cause they wanted to leave it as a surprise like most things they do.

    No, absolutely not. They (Riot) loses and gains players all the time. Despite that they have made such a profit on LoL by now, there is no way they don't have assets to keep them afloat through whatever comes their way. 

    20% is a pretty high estimation, especially since you admit it is your experience (opinion) alone. Tell me, what exactly was LoL's players base (in numbers) prior to Fortnight release? What are they now?

    There's a local radio station here in Vancouver, BC that does re-runs of old radio series after midnight.. or at least they used to a few years ago. Don't know if they still do.

    The Shadow was one of their most popular ones.
