Which of these title would you recommend trying?

I've been trying a lot of mmorpg's the last months, but i can't quite find the one for me, played wow for a good time but i've almost quitted playing that now.

Anyway, there is some titles which i'am wondering about trying, but i need a little push in the back to go and buy one of them and try, so i hoped someone here could help.

The titles i'am looking at:
Guild Wars Faction
Final Fantasy XI
Lineage II
Auto Assault
Dungeons and Dragons Online
RF Online
Dark Age of Camelot

Those are the ones i can come up with now, so which do you recommend and why?
Also feel free to recommend other games to =)

Thanks in advance.

Each of those titles have their pros and cons. What features are you most interested in?

well, we need some more information to help you. those games are all very diffrent from each other, what kind of things in an MMO do you like? grouping? pvp? is solo important? that kind of stuff.

  • I like both PVP and PVE, and PVP should be in the game.
I like both grouping and soloing, but i don't like clean grouping game where there is now possibilitys to get futher without getting a group.
Also like to have any unique character, which dosen't look exactly the same as everyone else but thats not a must.

I would like that the community around the game is nice, don't want to meet this "omg haxxor, cheater" and so on ppl all the time.
And the game should have a good bounch of ppl playing, so that the world feel innhabited by ppl and not tottaly dead.

Don't think there is much more than this, every game i've listed here has something that i want to see/try, but if anyone should need more information i'll try to write something more.

Edit: I know most game involve grinding, and thats okay, but there is an point where grinding can be to much, but so far, of all the games i've tried before(wow,gw,swg,lineage2,Coh,Cov,ffxi,ao,so) the grinding for me have been okay.

Go for factions, PvE, PvP and a part where they mix (yeah I know but its actualy cool), and 0 grind.  hell, in the N00b zone youll be close to max lvl :)

ffxi-dont count on it because it has no pvp (so i've heard)

DAoC-is good it has great pvp but if you've never played before theres a little problem with the comunity the games so old that people only group with people the've known for a long time unless the desperately need a certain class in their group

Lineage- i've never played this game...

    Auto assault-never played it

DDO- i've personally never played it but i've heard the only way to play is in a group...so maybe if you get a group of about 6 friends to start playing with you? but i've also heard theres no pvp (dont hold me to that no pvp though just what i've read)

Guild Wars Factions- looks awesome (I plan on buying it today) but im a gw fanboy  and i could only tell you about the first game, which you've already played...

    RFO-never played it

That's not true, there's Ballista and Brenner, which are, essentially, arena-style PvP. I can't recommend FFXI to somebody who needs PvP to be a big part of their MMORPG, or who wants any kind of FFA PvP, but it's not totally without it.

I would go for Guild Wars Factions too.  The others don't seem to be doing anything new or groundbreaking with thier updates it looks like the same old same old.  So it might be best to get something like factions until the next gen of mmo's comes out Q4 2006; some really good mmo's are slated to go into beta and release then.

Guild Wars Faction - Guild Wars Prophecies (the 1st one) is an excellent game. Good graphics, decent gameplay, nice UI, fun quests IMHO. You can play just PvE or just play PvP or both which I really like. Some people don't care for it because it's heavily instanced but that didn't really bother me since I find the quests and story to be pretty engaging. Also, all quests (so far for me) can be easily solo'ed or duo'ed (sometimes using AI "henchman" sometimes not). GW Factions adds a lot more to the mix, 2 new classes, more area to explore in PvE, titles, etc. Some of these new features are also in GW Prophecies as well. I highly recommend Prohecies but Factions does sound like an equal winner.

Final Fantasy XI - As much as I love the FF games I perfer the single-player ones to the MMO.

    Lineage II - Never played

    Auto Assault - Never played

Dungeons and Dragons Online - If  you don't have a steady group of friends to play with, or if you're not interested in joining a big guild then be prepared for a bit of disappointment. This is not a solo'er or duo'ers game, but it can be done if you're persistant (or just hardheaded). The graphics IMHO were very good (once you tweak the settings a bit) and the quests were very fun, but only the 1st time through. Once you know the layout (e.g., where the traps are, where the boss spawns) and you play it on all 3 difficulties the fun of the quests rubs off real quick (at least it did for me). Also, this game should have released with at least 2 ro 3 times the number of dungeons/quests as it did. Becauses that's all you can do, quest. No crafting and no PvP, which isn't an issue if you have plenty of PvE quests to do (but this game lacks quest content). The UI is rather crappy (one of my biggest gripes with the game), but you can work around that and control your character with ease.

RF Online - I think this game has a free trial going try to get in on it if they do. I kept an eye on this game because it's non-fantasy, but it didn't do much for me in the long run. I found it to be very grindy and dull.

Dark Age of Camelot - Check to see if this game has a free trial I think they do but I'm not sure. I really liked this game. If you buy the game I'd try to find the platinum edition (or something similar) where they have included all of the expansion packs. It's more bang for your buck. The graphics at the time I played were "ok", by no means ugly but nothing I was overly enthusiastic about. The gameplay /quests could get a bit boring at times, but overall they were pretty fun. There's crafting unlike DDO if you're into that.

    ----------------------

Games I'd recommend if you haven't tried them already:

City of Heroes/City of Villains (good game, good community, PvE/PvP, no crafting but you can create items for your super group's base)
Saga of Ryzom (only if you are really into RP it's got a great community for this, good crafting)
EVE Online (of you like Sci-Fi and non-twitch ship to ship combat, best player economy I ever played in)

Played: Age of Conan, DDO, Saga of Ryzom, SWG, DaOC, MxO, EQ2, and so on...
Wish List: Jumpgate Evolution, Star Wars: TOR, Star Trek

A couple of these games currently have free trials:. DAoC and DDO I believe, possibly others. I know you cant try every game before you buy but you may as well take advantage when you can.

  • s0ulls0ull Member Posts: 186
DAoC is an amazing game. Also check out Eve online. I've heard DDO isn't all that but haven't tried it myself. I'd say try em all see which appeals to you the most.

    The Saga of Ryzom.

    Great community - Yes.
Possible to solo or duo - Not sure, but I'd guess yes since I have solo'd some levels.
    Character customization - Excellent.
Graphics and animations - 3D, excellent.
PvP - Yes, in several forms.
    PvE - Yes.
Crafting system - Very interesting and complex.

You can download the game from ryzom.com and start a 7-day free trial account. :) If you do, just remember to leave the starting island as soon as you are comfortable with the interface. The starting island is empty because most people leave it for the mainland pretty quick.

I've been convinced to try Ryzom, as it reminds me the most of my first love in MMOs (EverQuest Online Adventures).  Perhaps you should as well, it looks really badass (I'm downloading it now).

    1. GW Factions - Yes , if you liked GW, but GW alone is enough
    2. FFXI - No pvp
    3. Lineage II - Yes if you like korean games
    4. Auto Assault - This game could be good , but you should wait a bit for it to mature
    5. DDO -  NO!
    6. RFO - Hell NO!
    7. DAOC - It is feeling the bite of time , dont get into it.

Personally I would recomend you to try 14 day trial of City of Villans
I was so plesently soprised by this game. It has good pvp , great pve, and very nice community ...

Ryzom is a really good game but IMHO it is on its way out.

    Community: Excellent

    Graphics: Excellent

Gameplay/UI: Great once you get used to it

PvP: I never got far enough to try this portion out(my first 3 months
were prior to PvP being out and I basically started over when I tried
    it again a month ago)

    PvE: Great

    RP: Good

    Solo'able: Definately

    Population: LOW

I said the community is excellent, just stay away from their general and RP forums, and find yourself a guild.

If you haven't tried Ryzom yet then I would suggest checking out their
free trial and then paying the $15 bucks for at least one month, it is
worth it.  37 days for $15 bucks...

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Guild Wars Factions is next on my list of games I think you should try and I haven't even played it yet.

I just recently purchased Guild Wars and I'm very happy that I did.
And you just can't beat NO FAWKING MONTHLY FEE!!!!  So even when you
get bored with whatever MMO you do happen to be paying for, cause were
all fiends like that, you can dive back into GW/GWF anytime you want.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    Haven't tried DAoC.

    Didn't enjoy AA at all.

DDO has been covered very well by the poster's above(two thumbs down imo).
I enjoyed the RF Online beta but not enough to pay for it, you may feel differently but i'd wait for a free trial.
L2 I played the beta like FOREVER ago and, like RFO, I enjoyed but not enough to pay for it.

Edit: The poster above me mentions CoV.  Get the free trial if for no other reason than to check out what, imo, is the best character customization in any MMO out today.  I couldn't get into the actual game enough to pay for it though.

At any rate, best of luck in your search!

    Go for GW: Factions

    Large population
    It has a fine community.
    PvP weights extremely high
Equipment isn't that important - Knowing how to set a good skill set together and to play your role right means a lot more
PvE is fun, but not a requirement
With lots of faces, hairstyles, colors for the hair, decent amount of armours that can be dyed in any way, dyes that can be mixed. - You'll have a unique look.
You can solo some with henchmen, and you can easily find groups.

    Yes it's instanced.

Try Auto Assault, everyone should. It might just renew your love for MMORPG's as a whole. Oh, bring ram.

GW Factions- I would buy the first one and see if you like it before you buy the expansion since you don't need it. GW has pvp and pve. The community sucked when I bought it last summer and it was hard to get a group, since people used the henchman instead. The story was nice. If you like to solo (with henchman) and if you like capture the flag type pvp I would suggest this one.

FFXI- The economy is really screwed up from the gil (FF currency) buyers. Arena style PvP and fun pve for some, but harder to get a group at later levels, depending on your class. I wouldn't recommend this game.

Lineage 2- A little late to jump into this game due to the high level cap, but it has great graphics and open pvp. Major complaints would be the farming going on and the lack of character customization that is common among Asian games compared to U.S. mmo's.

Auto Assualt- If you like being a car instead of fighting as a person, than you might like this game. Entertaining quests, nice crafting system, good customization, but lack of an end game is the popular comments of this game. Like others say, I would wait for the game to be out for a few months and see where the game goes since it has a low population level.

Dungeon and Dragons Online- An extremely niche game. If you are a group "only" person, who likes "only" pve in the form of quests, with great character customization, and with Dungeons that actually have traps then this game might be for you. The lack of content makes it where you will need to play no more than 25 hours a week if you don't want to be left without something to do. Quests get boring after you learn the dungeons and where the traps are and it shows with people rushing through them. I would not recommend this game unless you have a group of friends that will join you and ensure that you get to experience the content for yourself, instead of rushing you through it so fast that you don't know what's going on.

RF Online- Community is kind of young, but a faction against faction game with a huge grind as your main entertainment. Typical of Korean games.

Dark Age of Camelot- A great game in its time, but the game population is very low now with elitist running the game. If your not the proper race/class/specialization combonation you will not be welcomed with open arms. I would not recommend this game with WAR coming out next year, which will very well likely kill this game.

Overall the best idea would be to stick with the game you have now or go to GW, which you can play for free. I am currently playing EQ2, which has pvp and great pve, but you should avoid this game unless you have a high end computer. I would avoid this game if you want to play pvp, because they will be balancing the classes for a while.
