image'Atlas' Video Leaks from Studio Wildcard - It's a Pirate-y Seafaring First-Person Game - MMORPG.com News

Studio Wildcard slipped up over the weekend by revealing a trailer on the ARK: Survival Evolved YouTube channel. The trailer, "Atlas", shows a new game seemingly in development by Studio Wildcard that is a decided departure for the company. It features first-person seafaring action with players controlling pirate ships on a search for treasure and taking on the undead denizens of the locations they're exploring.

After all this things tying back to the Ark Devs, not many hopes this just won't be another wonky title, after Dark and Light it's just meh what to expect from them.

While I totally love the pirate aesthetic, I just wonder if the world needs another pirate-themed game with Sea of Thieves already out and Skull & Bones on the horizon. On the other hand, it's not like there aren't more than a few fantasy games out there.... :dizzy:

For me, any pirate / seafaring game is going to have to have stellar ship-to-ship combat or it'll be a bust. So the one with the best ship combat wins in my book. :D

Pirate theme is hardly oversaturated, and this won't be out for what, two or three years? Ship to ship combat does need to be top notch I agree, graphically looking fine, just the gameplay as ever is the question mark.

Nah its Wildcard. They will release it in a few months to EA and feature creep for the next 5 years.

People either want a Pirate MMO(Sea of Thieves is hardly that) and/or a Pirate single player. If this game can deliver on that mark it will be a success! It looks very promising just on the video, but we all know that doesn't mean a whole lot today. Since it is Wildcard, it is a very safe assumption that it will come out as Early Access, so I doubt we will have to wait long for a reveal.

Yep, not over saturated by the fact that most of the pirate games are total shit.

It would be nice to have a pirate-themed game that’s actually good.

The only game I can think of that’s playable is Blackwake. It’s not because of mechanics, graphics, or story but because the game is hilariously funny when its physics don’t work as expected.

The last game where I really enjoyed ship-to-ship combat was...believe it or not...Pirates of the Caribbean Online. :D

Same textures and a few noticeable assets from ark. That tower toward the end was ark's stone structure building, the shark, character models, grass, etc.. Nothing wrong with reusing assets, but they have no unique ideas here. Some of the ships are from the modding community as well. You can download them and play them in-game on Ark. As much as I like the ship mods I will pass on this.

I think Assassin's Creed Black Flag (or maybe it was 3?) had some good ship combat

I used to love playing... what was it... I wanna say Uncharted Waters... but that doesn't sound right. Anyway a decent pirate game would be awesome, mmo or not. Most of the ones I've seen are either deep in EA or came out with crap-all features or broken gameplay. Knowing these guys, I'm sure it'll look really pretty and have at least some content when it goes into EA in a month or two (my estimation), too bad it will be an unoptimised mess for the first few years.

I like the part where there's a huge ass water spout, 50 foot waves... and these guys are still trying to shoot each other.

Black Flag was 4 yeah. That titles success gave birth to Skull & Bones which I'm going to God damned enjoy it!

Despite the fact that's it from the guys that made Ark (meaning it's likely to be sold in waaay too early EA and they'll have the first paid expansion out before actually fully releasing), if the avatars have the ability to scroll back to third person, I'd be interested. I don't mind first person for some types of combat but hell, if I'm playing a pirate, I want to see my avatar most of the time!

Nobody wants to do MMO's today, it will go Battle Royale before it would go MMO, it's sad. Hell even Planetside 3 rumored as battle royale is just rip.

Technically yes, but there are a lot of mediocre pirate games, of which Sea of Thieves is a prime example, a well made Piracy on the high seas game, particularly MMO, would be welcome, but its not easy to do as PotBS and others, have demonstrated. :/

The only thing I expect out of Wildcard is how many expansion they will try to release while this title is in EA.
