A Diablo 3 expansion would be my guess.
Or another pack like the Necromancer's. For the near future anyway.
Diablo 4 as the long term project. Although I don't think it will be an MMO.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
Diablomon; catch demons and have them fight for you... it will be a mobile game (with future Switch port) and include a BR mode of course. No RMAH this time, but you will be able to buy 'passes' that give you access to special bosses that drop rare loot.
More seriously I wouldn't be surprised if it was just D3 for Switch, some sort of Diablo skinned mobile game, and possibly a DLC for D3... an MMO wouldn't be totally out of the question (assuming they have plans to sunset WoW), but I suspect it would be done in the super casual modern WoW style.
Diablo, how to make low budget games that make you millions of dollars. Not only low budget but small effort game designs,30x30 grid mapping,so yeah OLD tech, locked camera's...sigh,there is nothing Diablo ANY of the series does that is something i want in my gaming experience.
I only gave D3 a try because i figured being newer than D1/2 it might look at lot better and figuring Blizzard made so much money they might improve the series and give something special back to the players/supporters.
Well how wrong my assumption was,a game that seemed unfinished with it's VERY lackluster crafting design, same old cheap maps, puny characters and just a whole lot of spam gaming, yep same old new skin ,more millions for Blizzard.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I didn't like any of the Diablos. But, I also generally can't get into arpgs. You could have saved a lot of typing by saying you dislike arpgs. D3 was like every arpg before it and since, but with a gutted chardev system geared at kids.
I also don't understand the "puny character" statement as it didn't let you zoom out to a reasonable frame. The characters were grossly oversized for my taste.
The crux of your argument seems to be they should have ignored Diablo 1 and 2 and came up with a radically different game unrelated to the prior entries into the series. That doesn't seem like a reasonable argument.
I will not like the next Warcraft Blizzard releases - because I didn't like any of the prior ones and just plain dislike that whole genre. What I won't do is bash it because they made a game for people that do like Warcraft and that likes that genre in general because they failed to make a something I would like - which isn't Warcraft.
For sure one of them is a MMORPG for Pc and consoles and other could be a remaster Of Diablo 2. I know sure for a mmorpg is the job listing for experience with a Massive muiltplayer game. That’s a huge hint at Mmorpg .
Theres nothing wrong with consoles, lol. I have both but the thing I love about cosoles is I don t have to upgrade for any game until the next gen comes out.
There is when the developer used to code for PC but no longer does they code for console and port to PC which means we get a half arsed version that would have been way better if coded for PC originally.
"Diablo Royale" - Battle Royale, but it's Diablo!!! Mashes PUB and Fortnite, grants you an elite/rare/special super-shiny for each of Blizzy's other games. 10 millions players after 6 months, current BR games whither and die. 12 next BR games copy "Diablo Royale", die instantly. 3 next BR games improve on DR and are objectively better, get called "clones", "copy cats", "not innovative enough", "too different", "too hard", games last for 3 months, then fall over dead. Genre stagnates for next 20 years.
Personally I think that they are doing a Diablo 2 Remastered which is awesome. Then there is mobile Diablo which is... god kill me... and then there is probably the long awaited Diablo 4.
Sadly I don't expect a Diablo MMO.
Blizzard will never do a MMORPG anymore. Those hopes are gone in the wind after the Titan cancelation.
I think they pretty much gotten the message that the Magic in MMORPG's is gone. The market is not there anymore.
The new generation of gamers is the instant gratification crowd that wants quick short burst game experiences like the current hype around Battle Royale games.
They will just keep on milking WoW as long as they can and that's it in the MMORPG space.
So a Diablo style Battle Royale game is a much more sure bet, as it will perfectly fit in Blizzard's current e-Sports strategy.
I don't remember if they announced that they weren't doing any more D3 expansions, but if they haven't I think it's probably D2 Remaster and a D3 expansion.
I always hope for a Diablo MMORPG as the story and world would be so fun to have an MMORPG in, but with Blizzard who knows what they will actually do next.
The turned content/zones from the second planned D3 expansion into free content. D3 isn't get more than minor seasonal additions and maybe a druid class
I'm calling it (again): Diablo MMO is coming...probably later than sooner, but still.
No, I doubt it Suzie. Because Diablo 3 already fills the niche of the modern, streamlined MMO.
No, Diablo 3 doesn't fill that niche. At best it lets you play with a handful of others concurrently, while the rest of your game remains otherwise unpopulated.
A Diablo MMORPG would be more akin to MU Legend, in which many play concurrently in open areas whether teamed or not, much like one can find in WoW in more active spots. Changes would be needed to the game to accommodate that.
Well, you better hold on to your knickers because that's the future, regardless of our desires for desktop games. The money is in mobile.
Yeah, the money is mobile, but the mobile games are still shit compared to PC/console offerings. I think there's still going to be a solid market for people who like games that don't suck ass.
Good does not equal popular (or profitable). Look at all these 20-somethings who can't keep their faces out of their phones for five seconds. Where do you think they want to get their games?
We are a dying breed, my friend. Game developers will follow the trends. We are no longer their target audience. Desktop "old school MMO" is the domain of inexperienced indie developers now. Best to get used to it.

MMO wise and to a lesser extent gaming, PC was supplanted by Consoles and both are now being supplanted by Smartphones. This has nothing to do with what platform you can produce the best game on, and everything to do with "where is the biggest player base where we can produce games with the least cost?"
But I also say NO! Understanding market forces does not mean we roll over and grin while great IP's like Harry Potter, Marvel and Diablo all end up concentrating on mobile games.

Ohhh Scot, you just called Harry Potter a great IP, and in the same sentence as Marvel and Diablo...
Shame, shame!!!!

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

I'm not saying you or anyone else should roll over and grin, just realize that you are a small voice in a large crowd and all the stamping of feet and clenching of fists won't matter a bit. If you think for one second these indie developers are going to foster some sort of old school revival, you are fooling yourself.
The "old days" are over. We have very few MMORPGs left that adhere to the old ideas of what make a MMORPG. Most of the others have made the cash shop the end game. Enjoy what's left while you can and hope a few more come along.
Path of Exile is the WOW of multiplayer ARPG's at the moment in the sense that it's had continual development for the past 8 years and I see almost zero reason to play another ARPG long term. Nothing can match the amount of content.
If Diablo 4 released in the current market, it'd do well initially but meet the same fate Diablo 3 has. This has to reinvent ARPG's or have some game changing hook.
