Originally posted by Kem0sabe Taken from the EQ2 forums: On March 30th, SOE Merged 3 EQ2 East Asian Servers into Najena, Mistmoore and Unrest without telling anyone on the affected servers. Many of you have been wondering about all the wierd names and people with ??? as last names showing up all of a sudden after the down time, and of the many new characters that have appeared since that date.
Chinese Servers were merged with Mistmoore Taiwan Servers were merged with Najena Korean Servers were merged with Unrest. Seems SOE decided not to warn anyone and deactivate all the SOE east servers transfering the asian players to U.S servers... without saying anything to the asian or u.s players. No oficial responses yet, and they seem to be just ignoring the players queries on this. I wonder what PR spin they will put on this. Oo
They annouced that quite awhile ago. I don't even read the official forums and I knew that was coming weeks ago. Everyone had plenty of warning on it.
Fade-US...It was clear crystal for many persons, I have no doubts. But to the majority of player who didn't developp a new language called:
SoEic (like druidic in D&D)
It is not THAT obvious. Of course, if those complainers would belong to a big guild like they should, they would have known. Since in a big guild, someone know how to read SoE encrypted messages, and if not they are spying or friend to other big guilds which will talk about it on their forum so they will know.
So in all honesty, peoples who didn't know should blame themselves for not been in a big guild.
*irony off*
- "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. " - Ren
I happen to play on Najena, and yeah, didnt have any warning on what was happening.
Now, how do this affect me? Not much. The level cap on the transfered server where 50. I believe they got 3 months of free gametime and a free copy of the DoF expansion. Sinking Sands is full of new players. Going to SS right now is like going there at dof launch.
So for anyone stuck in the 40-60 part of the game its going to be a very welcome merger indeed...

I can laugh and laugh and laugh, you can pay and pay and pay. A fool and his money are soon parted. Where's your $15? In SOE's coffers. Where is your pride? In SOE's back pocket. And I think you're a fool for giving your money to a company that will sell your info to a third party marketing firm after promising they won't. I find this is a much larger breach of trust and PR nightmare than ANYTHING SOE has ever done, but I guess you're just too much of a Blizzard Fanboi to say anything about that. Blizzard has stomped a mudhole in SOE and walked dry. All 7 of SOE's MMO's, or however many they've shoveled out, can't compete with WoW as a whole. I won't even get into the asian market, SOE can't even get EQ2 to stick over there....their flagship MMO is a bust. Yep as education declines, games like WoW are on the rise.
Kemo, SOE has more MMO's than any other company, by default they have more developers than any other company, and while I have no difinitive proof, if I were a betting man, I'd bet they're the richest (even if all their money doesn't come from MMO's).
As far as NCSoft, City of Heroes doesn't have the numbers EQ2 does, let alone all SOE's MMO's combined.
But all of that is secondary. My main point was to bash a moron like Maldach that would call people stupid because they enjoy a game he's never played and only bashes it because he isn't intelligent enough to realize, just because his favorite game is WoW, that doesn't mean every other MMO is trash.
As far as SOE messing up, yep they screwed up and they admited it, but really who cares? So what they didn't tell us the Asians were coming to our servers (and I don't believe for a SECOND that they didn't tell the Asians, since it was announed awhile ago those servers were shutting down)? What impact did it have on the US servers? ZERO...Oh wait, a couple of ??? characters, and boy would that just ruin my whole gaming experience.
The truth is, Blackheart could forget to tie his shoes and everyone around here would spin that to mean EQ2 is dying and SOE is bankrupt. You people (not you specificly Kemo but a lot of people here) should be working for SOE, you're better spin doctors than SOE's PR anyday.
Yes I bash Turbine, but let's put things into perspective: Turbine started off by lying to the die hard fans that always appear when a game is first announed but in far off development. Then they create a game with nothing to it but a name. Or we could even go back further, let's look at AC2. The release an expansion and promise more expansions would be coming. They let that sit on the shelves for a few months to milk as much profit as they can from the sale of that expansion and then announce the closeure of the game. You tell me which one sounds worse: Adding a few non-english speaking people to a server, or the events I just described.
What kills me even more, is that CCP (makers of Eve Online) has alowed players to use Real Life dollars to buy in game credits, as long as CCP gets their cut, LONG before the station exchange came out, CCP gets voted best company by the people here, and SOE is satan. If you can't see the biased there, you just don't want to.
I tried EQ2 off and on during its first year of life. 50 Warden on LDL. Watching the devs spin around in circles trying to figure what they wanted their game to be became ridiculous and I refused to pay them any longer.
I don't play WoW. Funny how EQ2 idiots always assume you are a WoW player when you bury EQ2, myopia at its' finest.
Having more developers/programmers/artists may mean they are the biggest in terms of employees, but WoW is wiping the floor with every SOE product on the market. EQ2 failed miserably in the asian marketplace, even after they hired a team to put together character models the asian community would be more willing to get behind.
SOE's lineup of MMO's is a laughing stock of games.
MxO - anyone place this? Nope.
SWG - hehehe, check out any public forum for this game, it's a riot
EQ - still going, the only game they have in their stable with any credibility
Planetside - it's free now folks, great MMO's aren't free, they are dying (see Shadowbane, AO)
EQ2 - a painfully obvious cash in on the original game. made with $ in their eyes, not passion or creative drive and it shows.
I tried EQ2 off and on during its first year of life. 50 Warden on LDL. Watching the devs spin around in circles trying to figure what they wanted their game to be became ridiculous and I refused to pay them any longer. Really? What's your character's name? It's really easy to prove your story with the great Profiles SOE provides. I don't play WoW. Funny how EQ2 idiots always assume you are a WoW player when you bury EQ2, myopia at its' finest. The way you're all over Blizzard's nuts and forgeting about all the mistakes they've made, I made an assuption. I'm going to go search for you posts, just to make sure you really aren't playing a WoW before I apologize for my assuptions. Having more developers/programmers/artists may mean they are the biggest in terms of employees, but WoW is wiping the floor with every SOE product on the market. Agreed, and as I've said, as education declines, games like WoW are on the rise. EQ2 failed miserably in the asian marketplace, even after they hired a team to put together character models the asian community would be more willing to get behind. LOL as if it failing in Asia is a bad thing. The 3 worst MMO's I've ever played: Linage, Linage II and Risk Your Life, all highly popular in Asia. I am SO excited it's not popular in Asia. I can't stand ANY of the games that are popular in Asia. The more they hate it, the happier I get, as it's probably a game I'll enjoy. SOE's lineup of MMO's is a laughing stock of games. MxO - anyone place this? Nope. Wasn't developed or produced by SOE, only aquired for another licence (funny how you only remember that when it suits your arguments) SWG - hehehe, check out any public forum for this game, it's a riot EQ - still going, the only game they have in their stable with any credibility Right, just called the most successful MMO ever. Planetside - it's free now folks, great MMO's aren't free, they are dying (see Shadowbane, AO) Let's see how many Americans are playing WoW when it's been out as long as Planetside. EQ2 - a painfully obvious cash in on the original game. made with $ in their eyes, not passion or creative drive and it shows. Which explains its recent growth And yet NONE of that disproves my point that SOE is the largest MMO developer in the world.

At release EQ2 was not an overly amazing game, but it is the best fantasy MMO at the moment in my eyes. DAoC is a close 2nd, but WoW isn't even in the top 5. In less than a year alone I have had accounts in DAoC, FFXI, WoW, L2, UO, CoH/CoV. SoR, and played many many betas. EQ2 has some issues, all games do, but it has far less exploiting and other game breaking issues than any other fantasy MMO currently.
It is the only new~ish game with real character progression that isn't just class specific, but racial. Unlike most RP serevers on most games [;ayers actually RP beyond cyborhoring.
Planetside is very active in JP times, I wouldn't pay $15 a month for it, but station pass makes it a nice diversion now and then since I own the game anyway.
MMOs change over time. EQ2 has gotten better, FFXI has gotten worse, DDO started out bad, and WoW has become absolute crap.
I am always keeping my eye out for a better game, but right now there isn't one really.
I for one have to agree here with Vyava. I have been playing EQ for more than 4 years.. thru many many tweaks and changes.. still going..
I have played EQ2 since launch.. Many upheavals and still going.
I played WoW... wasn't for me.. too cartoony and way to childish with a lack of challenge.. some good class ideas, some nice UI upgrades, but just not for me.. but you won't see my name associated with a "bashing" post, ever.
I played SWG up until they went and released JTL.... So I am NOT a SOE fanboi.. They messed up the game for me and many of my friends who all played from launch.. they sold us on the fantasy and then didn't live up to it with content and too much focus on Jedi.. We put our money where our hearts were and left... Not a bash, they had lots of good ideas but they failed to live up to expectations and you have seen what follows.
As for other games, I have been playing CoH since its release. NCSoft is a good company so far and I have subscribed to CoV just for the added fun of playing a bad guy.. At its release it had the wackiest unstable servers I have seen to date.. But all games have bugs and some companies have more people to throw at fixing them (NCSoft just seems to do it faster with fewer :P )
SOOOO, As a member of a merged server, was I a bit torqued about a sudden influx.. Not really, more midlevel people means less LFG.. but it can be a pain and I have always been a proponent of English Only servers (FOR THOSE WHO WANT THEM) not a mandatory thing.
Again, I will try most any game.. I will put up with a fair bit of buggage and baggage.. When stuff gets too bad and affects me personnally, I can always hit the power button OR (gods bless Game Companies) there are OTHER choices... So lets live and let live and if you can't, there are always trolls to feed.. be kind.. throw them a gnome :P
Is this issue still alive? Really though - I've been on the 'I hate SOE' bandwagon for a while now and even I can see that this not a major big deal.
You guys are upset because 25 asian players decided to play EQ2 on your server?
i've been playing this game now for about two weeks and I've seen one [] [] [] Character on my server, I have seen one guy say [] [] [] -- other then that zilch.
Its one thing to complain about a game that is lacking in something but to call this a "PR nightmare" is worse the CNN covering a cat stuck in a tree.
wow has about 100 asian servers, and so many wanting to play you can be +200 in line for entry. wow has about 6M paying $15 monthly, yea right $OE has more subscription $. They have 3 and 5 GIGA-Byte per second broadband over there, US has a tough time doing beter than 1MBps... because in 56k dial-up there is about 300ms added latency connecting across the pacific. Sony a Niponese (aka Japanese) company could not maintain THREE asian EQ2 nor ONE eq1 server; something is seriously wrong in that. How embarising (loss of face) it is for Sony the incompetence it is having with EQ2 or swg !! How pitiful there was ONLY three servers of asians interested in EQ2 ? vs literally 100s servers of L2, GW and wow. And $OE insists it's EQ2 #s are still increasing... pass that CS india pharmed kool-aid ( when did they add almond flavour kool-aid? why is this stuff melting the cup ! )
Originally posted by bhug How pitiful there was ONLY three servers of asians interested in EQ2 ? vs literally 100s servers of L2, GW and wow.
You call it pitful, I thank my lucky stars that EQ2 is a game asians don't like. I CANNOT STAND the games that are popular in asia L1 L2 Risk Your Life, are the worst games I've ever played. Asia can have them. I don't call it pitiful when asians don't like a game, I call it a GOOD GAME.
Originally posted by Jorev I find the statement that it negatively affects the asian players mainly, and not the US players, to be pompous and false. Okay Jorev, and I say it's pompus and arrogant to think that it does effect people. The difference is I will support my statement, which you seem unable to do: It affects immersion when new high level characters are dumped into an existing virtual world. How does "immersion" get effected? They were all moved to non-rp servers where the players aren't worried about imerrsion. It affects community when new high level characters are dumped into an existing virtual world, especially when they won't communicate in the English language, the defined user language of that exsiting virtual world. Again how? I played on Naritus server in SWG, do you have any idea how many non-english speaking people played on that server? Are you aware there was a whole guild that spoke nothing but German? There was a good portion of my guild that were Swedish. It had no negative impact what so ever. It affects economy and the value of higher end valuable items when more of them are dumped into an existing virtual world. Yeah, yeah and so does buying from ebay...and yet after 7 years of this practive not one MMO economy has been ruined...weird. Not to mention the fact that most items in EQ2 have to be attuned and so are not tradeable. All affected US players should be offered a 100% free transfer to a server of their choice with 100% of their belongings or they are getting the shaft. Again back up your statements.

No it isn't. I can buy the exact same stuff as a level 5 character today that you could when the game was released. The price may have gone up, but the ability to make money has become easier. The same as it is in EVERY MMO ON THE MARKET. People think since the prices have inflated the economy must be ruined. Fact is twinking does more to inflate prices, and happens much more frequently the ebaying.

Making cash is easier, but it isn't equal ratios. I restarted FFXI a few months ago was able to hit 5mil before I neede genkai 1, but it didn't buy all that decent gear. I don't mean HQs only or that kinda thing, i mean decent suitable to level in but not gimp.
I really enjoy FFXI a lot but ebay did kill it in many ways. A few LS members have been telling me prices are lowering now, but so is income. As a new player (or a rejoining member to which "return to vana'diel doesn't work for) income to cost desparity is huge.
Like I said, love the game, but it is really hard to make do even farming regularily unless you have a static to do BCNM with or such...which is kiunda pointless under lvl 40...actually BC60 Sacrificial Chamber is the lowest I would do if I had the choice of any of them. Hard to survive a BC40 or 60 at lvl 30 or lower ><
I'm beginning to wonder if jodokai works for SOE. He seems to appear in a lot of posts rebutting people for putting SOE practices/games down. The fact is that anyone with some sense can get facts and use them to enforce there own point of view. There are also times when points are brought up which are not fact are used to try and discredit other people.
So if you do a bit of research then you can come in with a valid argument/s.
There is also the fact that some people like to have their opinion and some do not. The fact is if you are posting on the forum then you are most likely passionate about what you are saying, and I think that the more you can construct a post and give valid points as to why you think X point is right and why Y point is wrong (which several people have done in this post and others) then the more constructive and valid your post will be.
Looking from the outside and from what I've read in many different posts, there is a lot more negative press for SOE than positive. Now I have to ask myself is everyone having a whinge or do some people have a valid point here, upon reading the posts it appears that many do indeed have valid points (and no i'm not giving examples because i don't want to overload the forums).
I think Daniel is paid by Blizzard Just to return the favour sort off.
A lot of the whines on this forum come from people thats been out of the game for months - or got burnt on another SOE mmo (there is a lot ) out there. You wont have people burnt on Anarchy Online whine about Eq. Most wont whine about the mmo they burnt on at all. Personally I dont troll AO messageboards for example. Or Wow forums. Or SWG forums. Or AC2 forums. Or feal treathened enough by Vanguard to have much of an opinion about it (I do have opinions about people that look at screenshots and wank off about how great its going to be).
Eq2 is alive and kicking. There is another expansion (trademark already registered and hints released on fanfair) incoming. The asian population didnt affect Najena much at all. More then a few of the transfers is now running around KoS. Take it for what you want, I play the game, on one of the affected server, and as a result my opinion about "pr nightmare" or not should carry a bit of weight.
