Now this is how you gather hype around your game in development.
So much about that optimization happens in the late stages of development. Sometimes the devs are good enough to pull it off and design tech that performs mostly as planned so that they don't have to redesign the whole stuff again and again to get it at least barely playable. Game development is an extremely costly business especially when you struggle to find solutions to your problems. Engineer hours are literally measured in gold nowadays when it is really hard to find the appropriate professionals for specific tasks because there is a high demand for experienced specialists in the industry across the whole world. There's no doubt that CDPR have some really talented and experienced people in their ranks.
The content and some of the mechanics showcased look promising so far. I can't wait to learn more about this game.
I'm not really into this Cyberpunk theme but this demo got me interested.
Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay Reveal
and Message From Game Director
CD PROJEKT RED, creators of The Witcher and GWENT, are proud to present the first gameplay recording of their upcoming open world RPG — Cyberpunk 2077.
“What we’re releasing today was recorded from a game deep in development.” — says Adam Badowski, Cyberpunk 2077 Game Director and CD PROJEKT RED Head of Studio. “Since many of the assets and mechanics in the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 are most likely to be modified, we initially decided to show this gameplay only to media. Elements like gunplay (both in terms of visuals and how RPG stats influence it), netrunning, car physics, or the game’s UI — everything’s pretty much still in the playtest phase and we felt uneasy about publicly committing to any particular design. Animation glitches, work-in-progress character facial expressions, early versions of locations — all this made us hesitant to release what you’re about to see.”
“However, we are also well aware that many of you want to see what the media saw.” — adds Badowski. “Although this is probably not the same game you’ll see on your screen when we launch, we still decided to share this 48-minute video with you. This is how Cyberpunk 2077 looks today. Let us know what you think!”
As for my personal opinion. Considering it is not a finished product in early to middle stages of development it looked FUCKIN AWESOME, the gunplay and dialogue system the world was amazing.
Looked pretty good. Some of the dialogue was not very good and I am not sure about all the claims they are making. The day/night and all NPCs have lives has been said a lot, but the worlds still never feel populated with people with actual motives.
I am looking forward to this, it kind of reminded me of Deus Ex. Maybe the world is a bit bigger.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
It looks too good to be true. Its not just some of the features and the general world building but take the full nudity for example, can a game in this day and age even release like that?
Yes. That's CDPRJ for you. Unlike some wannabe Disney game companies, CDPRJ stays true. That's why is so loved by the ppl. Also the narrator said: Cyberpunk 2077 is a "mature" game so this should ring the bell for the most ppl. When there's a D, or V - you see all... literally.
It's not just the game, but the entire sub-genre is built around questioning identity, humanity, and reality. If anyone thought questions about our junk wouldn't come into the picture might not actually be a hume. Xeno detected! Wait wrong game, sorry.
I think it's kind of cute in a Pollyanish kind of way, that some people think that given the enhancement and change possibilities in a Scifi universe where you can change just about anything if you have the cash, no one would be interested in selling or buying junk mods.
"Mod my eyes, hands, legs, brain and ears but don't you dare touch my junk."
To this day I cannot understand how can you call the most precious part of your body "junk".

from my point of view, it looks pretty entertaining and I might have to give it a whirl. it's not my typical style of game, or everyday game should I say as I'm very picky when it comes to games, but I am trying to be a bit more versatile, so I will have to give it a shot. thanks for the suggestion.

Guess I'm the odd man out Looks ok, but nothing special. It doesn't grab me personally in any way, shape or form. Then again, not too fond of FPS. I was hoping for something more to convince me to buy it despite not having 3rd person. This might really not be the game for me. Oh well. I’ sure others will have their fun.
i hear you man.. it looks like meh.. i like fps games but this one look like shit.. rpg elements are fine but fps part does not look like a good game
The one thing I noticed was everyone looked like they were gliding. The animations were all well below AAA game standards. I suspect they will get better though. I am not overly worried about the animations yet. I thought animations often got much better later in the development cycle, not an insider.

It just looks like FPS mechanics from 20 years ago sadly. Visually it looks cool - but the actual gunplay mechanics just looks super weak (no recoil, no bob at all, super slow running/movement speed etc...)
I hope they can fix that at least bring it up to last decade in terms of getting the weight and feel of gunplay correct.
I feel ya. If you list gunplay under combat in general, it certainly wasn't Witcher's strongest suit. I hated the combat in the series still loved the game.

I found the combat in the 3rd finally worked well for the type of experience CDPR was going for. It's also why I'm not incredibly worried about them bringing something innovative to the gunplay issue. So long as it's solid, I don't expect much more than that. If it is solid, and it has the signature RPG features CDPR perfected with the Watcher series, it'll be a hit.

You might find my question irrelevant but it is important did you play on the hardest difficulty?

No, I generally play on whatever the "normal" setting for difficulty is. I don't generally play singleplayer for extreme challenge, I engage in PvP for challenging opponents because I dislike the way in which difficulty is inflated in most games (basically, by adjusting underlying numbers with regards to damage, defense, accuracy, etc.). I've found that RPGs, especially, rely very heavily on manipulating background numbers to achieve "difficulty."

Yeah I had to do it for the trophy. As you said it, there are RPGs which harder difficulties mean better loot, higher XP, etc. But when a game doesn't offer better rewards, playing a higher difficulty would boil down to the combat.
When combat mechanics are designed well, you'd enjoy the challenge. If not, you'd end up playing a really weird game. The game becomes a parody of how a season monster hunter should behave. The game really turns into a joke. Watch a hard playthrough of W3 specially the first half of the game. It's just ridiculous.

Sorry to focus on one aspect - but the gunplay was not amazing - not even close. It was mediocre at best.
Go rewatch it - zero recoil on that fully automatic pistol, zero bob when walking around - the character looks like they are gliding on rails with the gun out. The movement even when double jumping is far too stiff, it lacks fluidity. There was no weight at all to shots fired - the gunplay is lacking in a huge way.
Look at the crosshairs when V has the gun out and is moving - the screen is 100% locked in perfectly rigid movements - there is no shake or tilt or anything - just perfectly smooth movement as if the character is riding this:
Hopefully this is all due to unfinished state of the game - but no - gunplay did not look awesome unless you have really low standards for a FPS game.
You mentioned it in the end, but I'm almost 100% sure this is due to the fact that the game isn't coming out for a while. I think they were looking more to show aesthetics. Plus if you look at how the movement is, it's all set up to be gliding around and looking in very specific directions. Probably for the same reason when showing demos at E3 on stage, people take specific paths due to the fact that if they go anywhere outside the planned area, the entire game can just blow up.
I think the point of the entire showcase was just to get people hyped, and show off the visuals and how the gameplay will work, not necessarily the gameplay itself.
I personally hate these types of gameplay showcases, it never shows how a normal person would play the game, I would have been going crazy with the crosshairs and jumping on everything.
Gameplay demo looked fantastic, graphically at least. As far as i know, they are working on the new witcher right now and Cyberpunk might be released wit hthe new gen consoles, it'll be a long wait
I'm probably in the minority that does not want to watch any extended trailer (48 mins, seriously?) and ruin any potential surprises.
People keep saying this. But this was very early on. and only one option out of numerous was picked every time. We could play this exact part of the game multiple times and still be surprised because there are a lot of different options that we never got to see.
