Aw geez, one less thing the "haters " won't be able to complain about, sure going to get pretty quiet in the SotA forums soon.

Hope you enjoy your long awaited rewards.....

Hopefully they are worth it.   I remember Mortal Online waited all that time and shipped a book with almost all blank pages and best of all, a DVD that just had the patcher on it or something like that. It even shipped in a 2 DVD case but left one empty.

Haven't seen the Shroud ones but I hope they did a good job.  I still have my cloth map from Ultima 2...

Ah, 3-4 years more or less; They also made the (quite strange) final announcement on Kickstarter, behaving as if they delivered everything they promised and trying to trick people into bying more, including pre-selling of the infamous player made dungeons.

Of course Richard Garriot remained silent, and as usual the comments below the update are much more insightful - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/portalarium/shroud-of-the-avatar-forsaken-virtues-0/posts/2275286?cursor=21474716#comment-21474715

They did complete all they promised of EP1.   The Player crafted dungeon is free no need to buy the skins, there will be other skins outside of the store soon enough.  Like all ornate store skins you can get other skins usually the following patch to craft so not sure what your rant is with the pre-selling?  I can make the same things as the rest with just the crafted one.   Its not a trick to get people to buy anything.  That is s choice of the players if they want to skin things differently or spend money like all games these days.  Look at fortnite, what does the store offer you? skins and emotes and the likes.  None of that is needed to play the game or to unlock further skins.  Same for SOTA you can get it all in the game.  If some dude wants to spend the money that's his choice, it doesn't slow down my progress or speed his up.  Its a PVE world and why would anyone care how someone else chooses to play?

that is why so many players in these forums and others simply state give it a try and make your one decisions.  I prefer to make my own choices rather then let people convince me what I like / dislike.  I have seen movies that others rated bad which I liked.  I have tried food some said was terrible which was good for my taste buds.  You either like what the game has or don't.  Same with all games we play them and move on if we don't like it.  Or we play it and like and keep with it.

    that's my two cents.

Have received box.  Contents consisted of a metal ankh (Which would make for a nice necklace), a metal founder's coin, a quick reference card for controls and the like, a signed cloth map (Which I was pleasantly surprised about.  Loved the cloth maps, still have the one from Ultima 7 somewhere), two signed certificates in runic, installer and soundtrack, an adventurer's manual (Game manual) and a book of origins with images of the loose-leaf pages they wrote on for their D&D game that led to the Ultima fiction.

That's not at all accurate.  They are still missing a great many things that were promised during Kickstarter and a host of other things throughout the years.

Physical rewards.  They still owe a printed and autographed novel.  Signed by Tracy Hickman and Richard Garriott.  These rewards don't even exist yet.

Kickstarter stretch goals that are still owed:
    - $1.2M seasonal weather
    - $1.6M shipping lanes, boats that run on schedules
    - $1.7M mini map system, (very buggy or doesn't work at all for many players, nothing on Linux)
    - 1.8M serialized printed novel and functional cloaks that move in the wind.  The tech is still extremely buggy and ugly and their solution was to give players the option to turn it off instead of fixing it.
    - $1.9M the world is a stage!  The list is too long to for it.  They basically just forgot to finish this entire stretch goal and I've sat forgot because the theatre is in Central Brittany and has been for many years.  They just left it a deco and never created the tech.  It was supposed to be this amazing immersive rp theater system with seating and ticketing systems.  Nothing was done.
    - $2.0M guilds can earn a guild house and a guild bank.  They never did this either, but they will sell these items to you in their store.  I guess they meant that a guild can work and earn the money it costs to purchase them in the cash shop?

    See for yourself: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/portalarium/shroud-of-the-avatar-forsaken-virtues-0/description

Darkstarr also said he was going to rewrite the EULA so RMT would be legal for everyone.  They never rewrote anything, they just ignore the EULA.

The entire Seed Invest campaign that raised almost $1M was supposed to be the money they were going to use for marketing the game.  We're all still waiting for them to launch a marketing campaign.

There's also the little matter of episodes 2-5.  They laid off all their content creators so there is no one working on ep 2.  But, of course you can already buy early access in the cash shop.

Also in the Kickstarter pledge rewards, there are numerous pledge specific rewards they just aren't doing.  One example being the custom Avatar head Dukes pledged $5000.00 to get.  Darkstarr and Lord British got their custom heads, but then four years later they said they never figured out the tech to do it... The custom heads, except for their heads it did work, the tech worked fine for their heads.

There's tons more they didn't finish and now they can't finish because they laid off all the people they needed to do the work.

    - $1.2M seasonal weather (Grab your cloak, we are adding game changing weather) This is in the game already to some degree.  We get rain, Wind, storms in some instances, as well snow.  example the tropical island for the most part is normal but can get rainy days as well extreme storms with lighting and extreme winds.  This is based on certain months of the year.

I do know they have since release talked about adding more like rain will in the near future water outdoor garden beds and pots.   they did also talk about adding snow fall to other zones which would change the look but no eta added at this time on that change.

    - $1.6M shipping lanes, boats that run on schedules (these are in ep2 release as there is on other lands to visit currently.)  Instead they added zone boats between islands rather than scheduled ones.  Same with boats between pots for travel between markets.   Nobody wanted the timed boats between and wanted instant travel.

    - $1.7M mini map system is in. it does have some bugs and is slow but it still works.  They also upgraded it for player towns a few patches ago to automap towns and changes.

-1.8M serialized printed novel (This I agree is not completed yet but is coming from what I know from discussions) and functional cloaks that move in the wind.  Cloaks do have cloth simulation and was updated again 2 releases ago as they were buggy.  Not they do not get stuck through the avatar.   I do know when running they do flail in the wind, but not from storms or at least not that I remember.  I will have to check next storm.

$2.0M guilds can earn a guild house and a guild bank.  They never did this either, but they will sell these items to you in their store.  I guess they meant that a guild can work and earn the money it costs to purchase them in the cash shop?  (Great halls are available both on the store and in game)  guild banks are chapter house settings with chests.   They are reworking some guild stuff and functions , last patch they changed some of the view for locating guild members as well additional information.

"The entire Seed Invest campaign that raised almost $1M was supposed to be the money they were going to use for marketing the game.  We're all still waiting for them to launch a marketing campaign"  They did spend the money on a marketing through FB and other media which imo was a waste as it would have been better spent on sites like MMORPG.com and other prime sites for MMO games / banners.  They admitted that they didnt get the coverage they were expecting for what they paid and will be doing another push in the near future.  I do not expect that they will be asking for more money for the next push.

"the Kickstarter pledge rewards, there are numerous pledge specific rewards they just aren't doing.  One example being the custom Avatar head Dukes pledged $5000.00 to get.  Darkstarr and Lord British got their custom heads, but then four years later they said they never figured out the tech to do it... The custom heads, except for their heads it did work, the tech worked fine for their heads."  They have replaced some rewards which they could not do.  The duke heads were a neat idea and never know may come later, I do know it was brought up again in a twitch but cant recall what was said as I was not really focused on that as I am not a Duke myself.   As to the pledge for $5000 that was for the entirety of the rewards not just for the head.  the head is minor imo vs the deeds and houses etc which is the big selling point. but not all would agree I am sure.

There's tons more they didn't finish?  Not sure like what?  The rest int he stretch goals was completed.  There is alot of things they said in twitch and the likes that they liked and will look at adding that is for sure, but not ETA attached other then added to the wish list which is very very large.  Some things were not coming until the core systems to support them were complete which is what ep1 was about.  they have layed the basic core systems and now are building on them.
Like dungeons which just launched the start of.  it was scheduled for ep2 but is in over the next 3 patches with parts implemented in each.  This was all based on the basement core tech which is why it didnt take until ep2 to come.   They stated this.  also like caster segies coming... they have been working on the last 6 releases on framerate, number of people per instance, as well built the obsidian trials to play around with pvp rules , rewards, balance as a pre test to sieges which they have mentioned.  once the core systems are in they can build everything off them and or expand rather easy on functions and tools.

The way I see it as many others who hung around we see the larger picture and how it will all come together.  those with dev+ access know what are coming like myself as well have had input to a lot of what is needed.   Last round they did some changes that are more for the masses to make life easier to get around which some of us didn't like, but that is the thing with an MMO they are always changing and evolving which has its pros/cons.   I myself cant wait to see the new PVP stuff come in as well have played around with the trails.  They will have many new battle grounds with things like world of warcrafts AB with capture points and the likes, team combat and more which has alot of the PVPers excited.  So many systems coming out every month.   Dyeable furniture has finally started coming out and will expand each patch.  They are soon to have different color wood effect color in crafting etc...

Weapons that will level up over time and become more powerful as well gain titles on weapons that make the crafting system even more expansive.  (kill 100 dragons with crafted sword it gains Dragon slayer title and bonus against dragons)  This then adds to the resell value and opens up markets to those that choose to level up weapons to sell.

Future looks great from my view.  I'm just happy that I stuck it out,  If I had waited until release I would not be where I am at today or that much further ahead.   With the new XP boost last patch which they have been testing on weekends as a bonus which is not all the time new players can catch up pretty fast to those like myself who have been playing for a while.  It does make me a little sad though as It took me a very long time to earn my GM's that some now get in hours.  This is good however for new players as it helps things become easier as well closes the gap from those that have been playing what seems like forever :)

Yeah I opened my box hehe, wasn't going to but wanted to make sure I got all my loot.

The Map is signed :) and  I have to say the quality of the map is pretty nice.  I also got a CE coin, and the Ankh necklace, a reference card with has the runic translations on one side and in game key maps etc on other.  A manual, a booklet of how UO stuff all started from LB's pen and paper days.  A DVD with sound track and installer and a Deed in runic as well another certificate in runic (not sure have not translated it yet)

Good to see folks are happy with the contents, would have sucked if they went the Mortal Online route.

The old it's coming in episode 2 excuse.  LOL, I guess you missed that update where they have not confirmed boats for episode 2, in fact, unless they raise the money they have tied to their stretch goal store for non combat mounts, those won't be in episode 2 either.

The boats on schedules, the only people that didn't want that were the people that lived in Owls Head.  So, your excuse is likely tied to the guild you're in.

Anyway, game is so much of a turd still it's not worth arguing.  You and the couple hundred people still playing it, if you're happy that's great.  The tens of thousands of people that paid for it to be created all bailed, congrats for sticking around.  But maybe stop overselling it with misinformation, falsehoods, untruths, etc, it makes your argument sound like something a shill would say.

Good to see folks are happy with the contents, would have sucked if they went the Mortal Online route.
Yeah. Definitely seems like the box was legit.

You might remember that he already informed us that Portalarium is "not in any sort of financial crisis at all".

Meantime people are mocking SotA's box deliveries for (announced!) total lack of tracking, confused pledge levels, missing items & collector stickers, lots of strange emails on French or simply not even getting - furthermore not knowing when or whether they ever will - the boxes they paid for and expected years ago.

At least some of them got something out of this train wreck - here's a typical reaction from reddit:

Blade of the Avatar not included. Also, the Epic Origins booklet does not appear to be signed.
Anyways, this is all I wanted from Portalarium as of today. I'm no longer mad, just disappointment. Ready to resign myself to spectating on the game until it crashes.

I thought the stated that boats were not a stretch goal?  I will have to look myself at what they had listed for EP2 development.  I recall seeing somewhere in the forums and once on their page the milestones for all the chapters.  Ep2 does have boats that is for sure, just not sure if the player ones are in.  They will have ocean travel, fishing and pirate attacks and sea monsters so that would suggest that there are boats.

The Schedules were nixed instead the instant boat travel was put in.  Mind you they may end up like old WOW or EQ with boats you ride on to the new lands.  guess only the future will tell.

I am with Darc on this one,  I don't see the game as a turd it does offer more then most the sandboxes out there that I have seen. Its not a AAA title that is for sure, and still needs a lot of work in the polish department but overall the core of what it has is pretty amazing for the small budget they had to make it.

I don't see Darc as spreading misinformation, most of what I have read myself on the dev+ and other areas of the forums do mention most the stuff I have read of his or her post.

If anything you should go back and read your own posts on the forums.  Telling people player Dungeons will never happen, boxes will never ship, features will never make it.  All of these things do exist now when you stated they will never happen and all at the same time telling those talking about it that they are spreading misinformation.   Here sir/madam is a mirror for you to reflect on.

@Daracschnider I am happy you enjoy the game and look forward to Ep2 myself as well.

Not sure what you are getting at here James, what does shipping have to do with the first statement?

I got my box yesterday, as well another two guild members.  The email I got was from France and in french too which was strange until I inquired about why my box was coming from France.  Port did mess up on a few boxes we know that, and they stated they will rectify those that were not correct.   It looks like the errors were made on accounts that seemed to have more then one pledge on the same account, but that is based on the very few remarks I have seen.

Shipping they didn't use tracking as its more costly.  They also notified over and over both in game and out for people to log into the account page and confirm shipping address.  If the address was wrong don't expect to get your package.  That is not the fault of the company if people don't put in the correct information.

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones which no issues.  Got all my loot and I even had multiple pledges on my account as well.

I got mine.  The have one more phase of boxes going out to the remaining backers.   If you didn't log into your account options and ensure that the address is correct or if you are outside of the USA you needed to buy an international shipping token.  those would be the only reason if yours never shows up.
