Dragon Quest XI -- Thoughts?

I really enjoyed it and I haven't increased difficulty at all yet.

Anyone have gripes or really liking it? Just curious on how you guys have found the game to be so far.

Personally, without using any of the options to make the game harder, the first half is really difficult to die (even at bosses). I don't actually mind that though.

I thought it was a bit boring, not much strategy or depth at all to the combat. Some of the story elements were ok, and in some ways it was a pretty faithful transition of the older 2d games into a 3d world.

This is a game on rails. The zones are linear and boring. I could see this appealing to a 10 year old...but was not my cup of tea. I did not refund it as I played pretty far into the game. But if I had a do over I would take a pass on this one.

I'm 20 hours in the game and enjoying it I'm also going for 100% all trophies I'm at 20% so far. Pep powers are done wrong as you can't see a bar or measure to know when you'll be peped and when attack a mob you have to select fight again which looks pointless and loss of time. The other thing that pisses me off a lot is when I grind levels I farm those metal slimes which give crazy amount of exp was getting a full level from 1 of them at the teens, they just leave/flee as you engage the mobs so you get 0 exp if they do that. The more powerful I got the more they left to the point I can't farm them anymore... other then that I still enjoy going through the story.

This is what i figured and why i held off buying it.I don't like games on rails anymore,i don't like linear,i like open ended gaming.
The problem is that linear is very easy for a developer to design, they would have full control over everything and you control over nothing.
I assume lots of nice CS's,SE was always good at that but i need THE GAME to be good not just the eye candy or visuals/videos.

The metal Slime idea is imo old now, they been using it forever and yes they run away, they always did in past games as well.

Truth is and this is my opinion but Square Enix has come up with a ton of really cool ideas over many games/years.IMO far ahead of the other developers, problem is that i feel they have run dry/stale for new ideas.

IDK i will likely buy the game on sale at some point just because i bought all of them, not sure the price point i am looking for, maybe around 25 bucks tops.
