Could it be better, yes. Is there anything out there that is better, no. No other game out there today has a better large scale MMORPG experience that I have found. ESO had a shot but misfired horribly out of the gate.

    Welcome to the Boards!

I totally disagree, GW2 failed in so many ways for me. But who cares you are still welcome. :)

I was so pumped for this game and I didn’t last a month.

I used to play the wvw mode a lot back in 2015 when I was new in the game, but then I stopped playing wvw due to the fact that most of time I found a very little amount of ppl and very little groups to team up ( also a massive amount of enemy player). Now I don't play wvw because I get tire of waiting in the queuing 15 or 20 minutes just to find that my group has already jump to another map that is full (repeat process).

That's why you usually get on your servers TeamSpeak/Discord. The commander calls map changes so this does not happen.

Daoc in its modern state is still better than this crap. What is good about it? The only time there is even a fight is when zergs happen to cross each others paths while going from undefended keep to undefended keep. Undefended keeps take less than 60 seconds to seige, which is absolutely ridiculous. There is no such thing as defense at all. When the strategy is "let them take it, we'll just take it right back" that is a fail system. Horrible design.

"Who Wants to Play WvW in Guild Wars 2?"

    Me, me! :P

    Sigh.
Another one "We have to say something about GW2...but what? Lets say something silly, who cares."

"For those of you who haven’t dipped into WvW"
    You mean newbies, like you?
When game released back in the 2012 it was requirement to complete WvW maps to get 100% world completion.

"While it’s my opinion that brand-new players will get the best experience from Edge of the Mists"
This is hilarious, so you call people to WvW, but still think EOTM better. LOLZ.

"While WvW isn’t about the loot"
Are you kidding me? Chances to get exo way higher than in pve or even ascended gear box. Plus they did events and boost magic find when I played.

    "Easy Access"
    "dungeons are pretty dead"

    "Rewards"
    "Dungeons are pretty dead"

I cant get what are you hinting at? Try caps.

"If you really are ready to re-roll for WvW then Scourges, Spell breakers, and Firebrands"
Haw Haw! You tell people to go to WvW, and that its easy to do, but you forgot about Xpacks classes. Thats the reason I stopped to play PVP (and EOTM). !#$% net turned easy access to PVP into newbies/f2p (even only base game owners) slaughter. No balance! (if there ever been).

"While Ascended is the minimum standard for competitive PvE"
    WTF is that? Competitive pve?

"While Ascended is the minimum standard for competitive PvE, in many cases, the Exotic tier is good enough for WvW players."

Thats for max lvl chars, you just mention before that you dont have to be max lvl to go to WvW. >.>

    "Winning with Weapons"
This part sounds like the game was released a week ago. >.>

Youve mentioned reward tracks, but didnt say anything about gift of battle - another reason why people may come to WvW. >.>

"If you do decide to jump into WvW for the first time"
    Whispers: Dont..Dont do it. :P

WvW is a dead mode these days, and unless you are doing reset, it's really just a pip farm.

The fundamental missing piece for me was the lack of feeling like I was in a WAR. DAOC did this. I knew my enemies. We would rally to bring down that damn Smite Clerc who lead his group in taking our keep. We knew the Troll who used to hide behind a tree out in Emain.

The enemy was DIFFERENT from us. They were other races and classes. Had foreign armor and skills.

WvWvW is simply 3 somewhat mirrored servers that are passing each other for a few weeks on the way to the next group. They never felt like “the enemy” to me.
This is what made me get bored with WvW longterm.
It was fun in short bursts though.

    ..Cake..

Open world pvp has always been a numbers game. Some call it Zerg and some call it strength in numbers. Why would have it been different in Guild Wars 2? I can live with zergs. My biggest problem with GW2 WvWvW was that midnight crews would win the campaign. So called hardcore pvp-ers would transfer to servers with an active midnight crew.

Easy to access? The "community" that stuck to the WvW game since launch has become a pool of toxicity.

Not running a meta build? Get out.

Not running with the right WvW guild? Get out.

Not on some voice server using strict authentication requirements because spies? Get out.

Not part of the inner-circle-clique that played since the game launched? Get the hell out as your opinion doesn't matter.

The PvE side of GW2 is fun and games, but the WvW "community" is the most hostile and unwelcoming group of players you might encounter in an MMO, and I've played a lot of "Hardcore PvP MMORPG's" that simply were nowhere near as toxic as the GW2 WvW community.

Maybe not all servers are like that, but the top EU ones sure are. It wasn't always like this. Back at launch, and I'd say pre-HoT, WvW was a fun place to be and I spent countless hours in it for zero rewards, doing scouting, following commanders (on coms), you name it. All the players who made it fun, and the mechanics that prevented elitism, both of those things got ripped out two expansions later.

I'd stay away from it if you're looking for anything that resembles "having a fun time".

I am not a PvPer/WvWer nor do I follow or care for metas and I never had any issues in WvW, I joined tons of commanders, most of the time did not even join the squad, just followed along killing enemy players and repairing catapults....not one time did i recieve any toxicity or was told to go away.

I actually really want to get into GW2's WvW, but I just find it hard to understand. For one thing, like you point out above, I don't actually know whose side I'm on and who I'm meant to be fighting.

In contrast, RvR in ESO is very straightforward: I'm on the yellow side and I fight against the blue and red team. There is just one big map in ESO with clearly defined objectives. Holding a keep has real meaning and even as a novice you can quickly comprehend basic map strategies.

Then there is the gearing issue. I have 8 level 80 toons in GW2 but I have basically only ever played spvp. That means I have to go and find the gear I need and navigate through the pve leveling system because my "build" in spvp has no relevance in pve. For example, one of my favorite toons is this Guard Dragonhunter with lots of CC, area control, and group support. When I take this out of spvp it is still level 80, but has no skills and no gear. And I can't just buy the same gear I use in spvp because there isn't a 1-to-1 correspondence between spvp gear and pve gear. I have all this gold, crafting mats, endless boxes of high quality gear/weapon's from reward tracks that tick over as you play spvp but no idea how to recreate my build in pve ;(

Anyway l2p issue I know, but its just weird because ESO is so straightforward and easy to get into in comparison.
