It has been a bit of a wait but MapleStory 2 is finally here. We got our chance to run around in the closed beta test, but now with our jump into head start we can provide all the changes that have happened in the initial changes. We will be giving you a bit of what you can expect when you play and give a peek at the ups and downs of the game so far. Let's go!

    This is a cute little MMO, I actually bought a founders pack but I am really hating the UI and controls, If you are a Keyboard and mouse fan then you are not going to like this game, plays fine with a controller, seems like you can say that about all games now...

    Yeah, the controller is great. But man do I loathe the KB/M controls. Makes me think the main goal is to prep it for consoles. Game would make a killing if it hits all 3.

    It sounds fun, I'll definitely give it a shot as I was a fan of the original for years.

    "The drop rates are low, super low -- so much so that at the current moment some equips are going for 14 million mesos. There is a daily limit for the reward from dungeons and a weekly limit. The daily limit is 10 and weekly is 30."

    Anyone knows if this game is actually challenging or if it's just for ppl smashing random buttons and still be able to do end game dungeons easily

    @Kertin it is challenging at endgame. There is no way smashing buttons randomly will do when it comes to the hard adventures.
    @Deyirn at the moment there are no pay to win aspects in this game what so ever. Only things that can be bought at the cashshop are cosmetics. Right only skill determines how good you are at the game. Though yes mouse and keyboard controls are a bit bad. Keyboard alone is the way i choose to go as it is most familiar to me with old school Maple and plays pretty well.

    Should be noted that as of yesterday there was post by Nexon that they are aware of the drop rates and dungeon limit complaints. They will go into talks with development team to figure stuff out if anything can be done. There is love, care, and listening to players because they want the game to be a success.     As soon as I could change the controls I changed the basic attack to '1' then I changed all the quickslots from '2' to '=' .Then I put the ones where my skills will not be to some letters . This way I use my 12 button mouse and press 1 to attack and use my other skills I have mapped to the side buttons on the mouse. I am level 10 but levelling is fast so far but I presume it will slow down.

    I find the game very cute and some of the conversation is funny. My character has mismatched eyes and a very  adorable knight.

    What do you mean by "Review in progress" ?? It's more like a blog about MS2. After reading the "review", the only fact I learned is that level cap is 50. Otherwise I have no clue what-so-ever about the game.

    So when will an actual review come out ?

    Welcome to the site....MMORPGs are usually do 'in progress' on this site to give time after launch to see if some of the actual issues gets resolved rather than just taking things as they come relatively close to launch. Lag/disconnects/etc can always be attributed to the first week of stuff going on with a launch so its my guess they give a 1-2 week grace period to give an actual analysis but they release it in parts for those curious as soon as it comes out.

    It is as Albatroes said for the most part. Having head start access does not conclude with the launch which brought not only a new job but also a new area and new dungeons as well as first time events and such. The level cap was also increased to 60 which means that things may be different at endgame. Also the in progress gives time to spend on different classes to learn about them as well. MMORPG's are vast and usually takes time to get what the systems are and how things work. Just diving into the crafting takes days as there is a limit on certain things. Hence the in progress. Do not worry I'm working on the rest of it as we speak. As it is open beta, if you do want to hop in and experience it first hand it is free and fun. Can't lose anything but time and have everything to gain experiencing it first hand. Have fun and thanks for the feedback.

    Yeah I went with the mouse and keyboard, and it was a little rough to say the least. It said it (mouse+kb) was in beta still, so hoping that it gets refined till we have controls as smooth as a Diablo 3 :)

    No not really. Maple has always been full of them. They did put in the ability to skip the cutscenes. If they are not something you are into i'd recommend doing that. It does speed things along. Especially if you are on a second character. If you are in a dungeon with a group, only the party leader can choose to skip the cutscenes in the dungeons.

    My daughter and I tried this yesterday. Neither of us were very impressed. We chose M/KB as this is what we use for all games unless we are playing on PS4 of course. I lasted 30 minutes and that was enough for me. My daughter lasted an hour just doing other things but adventuring. Maybe it would be okay with a better UI and control.

    We are giving it a pass for now. Back to wizard 101 and Legends of Pirates Online I guess.

    I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

    the only thing about MS2 is that the mini games are really fun, more like a casual mmo for any gender and age

    I actually had quite a bit of fun yesterday trying this out. I'm sure it changes later on, but doing the quests just kinda felt like I was going through the motions of playing but not doing much. I want to get a little further into the game though, the minigames sound fun, and fishing looks enjoyable.

    I keep hearing good things about this but "casual MMO" keeps getting thrown around . As a Casual player myself I'm leery that casual is being used as simplistic and not in the sense that the game doesnt require a huge time sink to make progress or enjoy the game.

    Do they still have that stupid ACTUALLY Fishing for BiS gear mechanic still?



    I'm not too sure about that yet. My partner i'm playing with has reached master level in fishing. I did some research on it since she was trying to fish up gear and it wasn't working. I believe you needed magnetic lure to be able to do that. At the moment that item is not in game. If anyone has been able to fish up gear during launch I have yet to see it mentioned.

    I would say it is casual to a point. This game is all but simplistic once one reaches level 50 to start doing the harder dungeons or hard adventures. That is when this becomes a time sink trying to obtain epic gear, the purple ranked gear. As currently mentioned above there are low drop rates. What one can do at that point is make a second character and run the hard dungeons once you get it to level 50. This is one way to bypass the whole dungeon limit fiasco they have in game but not everyone wants to do something like that. So yeah, at that point it stops being casual and you get your time sink. Other than that it can be as casual as you want during the leveling period up to level 50.

    Seriously,yep this is the new era of gamer,not actually interested in a rpg or thew journey,just give me stuff at end game.That is a very poor attitude to have,it allows devs to keep churning out crappy rpg's.

    What i EXPECT is a VERY good and fun and intriguing journey,I expect to interact with other players in a good way,i expect lots of stuff to do ALL THE TIME and not just at end game.

    Why even have a level 1-50 if it is so meaningless?1 Day even if 2 or 3 seems very foolish.Why call it level 50,one day of gaming experience should be level 1-5 not 1-50,but then oh yeah,they would have to actually create enough things to do besides leveling and add a LOT more content.
    Way easier for devs to now a days,hand over end game then begin grinding them for money because as i said,it seems the new era of gamer just likes end game and words like RAID !!!.
    Want to play that dungeon more often...pay us,want to do more than 10 dungeons a day...pay us.How in ANY world could that be conceived as realistic?Want to swim in the ocean,pay us lol.

    I will spell out the problem with game design in a very easy way.Players are SUPPOSE to interact with the gaming world inside the world,NOT the developer who is an outside entity.The only time we should see or hear from developers is to buy or pay to play the game,once we enter the world it should be ONLY the world and no outside interference.
