Amazon has released a new in-game video that shows off exploration of Windsward, one of the early New World zones. As the character runs through the map, viewers are treated to a look at the environments and locations that are found in what appears to be a starter zone.

Don't offend Suzie It's just my opinion.
I suggest you hold that opinion until it is closer to release and when there is more public information.
MMO simply means Massively Multiplayer Online. With 10k players/server it clearly is an MMO.
Maybe because there is no game in that era?

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
Gdemami absolutely not being an armchair developer
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Following actual trend I think, they ll 'sold it as an MMORPG but at end as final product it have to be ;MP-co-op survival, action, shooter ... whatever ...

Thank you...some of these clowns don't know what an mmo even is...mmo doesn't= shitty carebear game.......like many of you seem to think....any time a game has PvP and eating these people lose their shit.....
The use of Conquistador type gear suggests, imo, a nominally early 16th century timeframe. Usually described as "The Age of Exploration" which would also fit with their New World label. It could span a century or two though after that, pre-industrial though.
As for where North America and much of South America for sure. And the potential mystery of such places to European explorers will allow "magic" be it witchcraft, voodoo, shamanistic, aztec etc. etc. .... if that is a feature they want to add.
How an individual views it though may well vary depending on where they are in the world ... and what graphic models they add; you are notgoing to look at the tootage and think "Japan" for example. It might prove generic enough to be Indonesia, New Zealand - maybe even Africa. Flora and wildlife start to play a part though.
However this is a timeframe that allows for both early firearms and swords whilst armour still has a place. Ground travel will be on foot, horse or cart and sea battles will be possible but with no pesky planes!
Generic but with enough historical material to be able to "suggest" Pirates of the Carribean, The Last of the Mohicans, Da Vinci's Demons, maybe Tarzan, King Kong, The Lost World and a host of other "stereotypical" stuff to "hook" players without paying for an IP. (Probably not Peter Pan since that has flying!)
Lumberyard Tech Demo definitely confirmed.
