Best PvP game like WoW

I played world of warcraft and stopped playing like a year ago.  I want to play the game again, but I dont want to start over in that game.  What game has PvP like WoW.

I think how Guild Wars works is you start with the highest level possible when you do PvP, which is not what I want (I dont want to buy it and find out).  Is there any game out or coming out that you have to level like WoW, and the same type of PvP?

GW is the only MMO which finds a way to make RPG's require skills. Best PvP game online IMO? GW hands down.

Haven't played Guild Wars but I hear the PvP is excellent. Eve Online is also very good.

I don't know why you would want PvP like WoW though, BG is a terrible system.

If you think WoW PvP is decent you really need to find another MMO.

The WoW in PvP is waaay to carebear-ish and only fools could enjoy it for more then a day.

I like the open-ended PvP that occured in the early stages of WoW's lifetime.  When the honor system and battlegrounds came out, world pvp ended, PvP itself was a tireless repetetive boring grind.  Now that I have quit WoW, Dark Age of Camelot's RvR is starting to catch my interest a bit.....

Yeh, the open world PvP was pretty fun with friends.

Now all the PvP is instanced, which is why i'm playing RFO.

Ohhh that comment made my spine shiver in anger! WoW's sad excuse of pvp is nothing compared with the Best damn PvP (RvR) system ever!

LoL totally unsimilar games .Why do people feel they must post something when they have zero information.

Back to OP ,GW is the answer.

There are other games with pvp but thankfully they do not resemble WoW and i am sure DAoC will be insulted to even think their pvp had any relation to wow pvp as DAoC is miles ahead of it it.

I played both for a year. They both have special areas where you go pvp at. And the pvp is meaningless in both games.

Shadowbane is really the only game to have meaningful pvp. Guilds can build their own cities, and siege and destroy other guilds cities.

    Sorry,

WoW isn't even in the same league as DAOC.  Very few games are, PvP wise.   DAoC is one of the best implementations ever for PvP in an MMORPG.  WoW's PvP is a joke compared to it.

PvP is meaningless in DAoC?  You obviously didn't really play it, or you never participated in PvP or only ever played in the battle grounds.  RVR (level 50 RvR) is VERY detailed in DAOC.  You can't fart around in Battle Grounds and then go making assumptions about real RvR in DAOC.  Sorry, you just can't.

PvP yields realm rewards that are useful in both PvP and PvE.

PvP control of keeps yields bonuses for members of your guild.

PvP control of relics yields bonuses for the entire realm.

In PvP itself control of strategic locations gives you advantages (or disadvantages if you're one of the other realms) in Realm vs. Realm combat.

WoW's PvP is done in an instance.  DAoC's PvP is a persistent world.  Yes it's a separate area from the PVE zones but that's where any similarity to WoW ends.

Oh please. You spend 2 hours taking a fort. Then you all log off, and another side comes and takes it right back after you log off. Totally meaningless.

You obviously never played Shadowbane if you think DAOC pvp has meaning. In Shadowbane a guild will spend months building a city. And once its taken, its gone forever. Guild alliances are constantly being formed and broken. It creates a whole new game, the game of politics.

You said you said RvR is meaningless in DAOC? oh please am i really reading this... You know you can get 31% crit from the realmabillities? higher blockrate? and thats just a small part of all you can do with your realmpoints. So if  you played over a year you should have atleast look what comes up when you speak with your trainer!

Sorry yes I have played Shadowbane.  And while I agree that it too has superior PvP to WoW it is a 100% PvP game while DAOC is a voluntary PVP game.  Also, while I really enjoyed Shadowbane it did get frustrating having to be constantly available to defend your guild assets.

    Also it's graphics are garbage.

But saying Shadowbane's PvP is better than DAOC's doesn't invalidate the fact that DAoC is worlds better than WoW in the PvP arena.  And, I dunno about you, but on my server we actually defend and hold the keeps we take.  Yes, eventually another realm will take your territory and you'll have to drive them off again but that's kinda just like real life now isn't it.  Rome took over almost all of Brittain then when the roman empire lapsed a bit the Brits took their homeland back.  Then at one point a large point of france was controlled by Brittain and the french eventually drove them back.

And keeps CAN be pretty badly destroyed now (the outer walls).  Towers can be *completely* destroyed.  It's not on the same level as the utter destruction of a player city in Shadowbane but it is still pretty cool.

The problem with Shadowbane was that it was 100% open PvP, which I personally enjoyed.  Most players perform some form of *optional* PvP.  Unlike you and I most players enjoy *occasional* PvP so they like games like WoW, DAoC, AO, SWG, etc, that give them the *option* to pvp but it's not "required" in order to play.

So, yeah, SB and EVE are better *PvP* games than DAOC but I prefer DAOC to them for many of the above reasons.   I liked ShadowBane but it never really had a dense enough playerbase to make the game fun for me.

Dark Age of Camelot PvP is absolutly nothing like World of Warcraft PvP. Not to say there is anything wrong with World of Warcraft (It is my main MMORPG at the moment), but the PvP in Dark Age of Camelot is just brilliant!

    World of Warcraft:
Varah - Level 60 Human Paladin

    Final Fantasy XI:
    Lordage - Level 40/25/20 BLM/WHM/BRD

WoW PVP is just terrible. Anyone that finds it fascinating, exiting, exhilarating, is well an idiot. There is absolutely no point to anything in that game.  All WoW is, is an updated version of Diablo II. Phat loot dudez.  No seriously I belive that your I.Q drops about 40 points as soon as you log into that game.

BY far the most over rated game of all time.

The reason it is doing so well is that is appeals to the simple masses of people.. Easy pvp with no point except to gank gank gank, the quests literally point you in the right direction.  Oh wel that was my rant for the month...

What i meant by PvP in WoW is that you can do BG, and then you can go gank people.  Which is what I was looking for.  Instead of just being restricted to the BG scenario, which isnt that good.

    The pvp in wow sucks.

In the beginning before honor system it was good.

    XR and TM was battlefields.

    Now its just instance gayness.

wow is on its way downhill.
  • fizzle322fizzle322 Member Posts: 723
For pvp mmo's are not that great.

Usually you end up having to grind stuff.

Planetside used to be really good before BFR.

Eve has excellent pvp, but you have to grind cash.

Now only the FPS games got good pvp. CS, BF2, UT. You can pretend your "character" is part of the faction and only play that 1 faction/uniform/role. It's the same thing, but theres no XP. Which is good thing right??
