After the reveal of the Blizzcon 2018 schedule and seeing the prominent placement of Diablo following a keynote -- a "usual" sign that that is the "highlight" of the annual convention -- rumors and speculation have been flying about what could be coming next for Diablo. In a new, and between us, rather odd post on the Diablo site, the team seems to be asking fans to temper their expectations.

Way to go, Blizz. :| Stoke the fires -- contests, teasers, scavenger hunts, prominent placement of panels and demos -- and then regret it. LOL -- either what they're going to reveal is pathetic in comparison to the fan excitement or it's going to blow us all away and this is just smoke and mirrors. :D

I'm allowed to say 'blue balls' right? I'd say this warrants it at the very least. It honestly sounds like they're gonna just reveal diablo mobile and br, then save the mmo announcement for later.

I’ll bet all we see are announcements regarding a Netflix series and a mobile game.

To be honest I don't think it matters what they announce it will not live up to players expectations. People have gone off the rail in the past 10 years or so with expectations. Like others have said I got a really bad feeling that they are going to announce a mobile game which is going to make a lot of people happy and another same amount very frustrated. They have always followed the money and unfortunately today that is the mobile market.

This could mean that Diablo 4 is way off or it could just mean don't expect World of Diablo (which was a pipe dream in the first place).

We just witnessed the very first dehype in the video games industry. The announcement must be utterly rubbish that it would be offensive to rubbish to call it rubbish.

That is the interesting thing since Blizzcon is the time for big Blizzard announcements. Next year, its guaranteed they'll announce WoW's next expansion, so I'm kind of thinking this is just a ploy and that they really will announce something big this year. Maybe they're trying to temper everyone's expectations if its like a full on 3rd person diablo mmo since diablo has been an isometric game this entire time. Lol or maybe they're gonna announce another expansion to D3.

I really don't blame Blizzard for coming out and telling people to calm down. They basically did nothing and the community thought Diablo 4 was coming. Yeah, sure, the panel right after the main stage is usual the front of the show...but it doesn't always mean it is a big reveal. It just means that they have a bit more stuff to talk about then usual and they do. They are about to talk about Nintendo Switch version of D3 which is releasing the same day so they would be foolish not to push it hard, what they are doing for D3 going forward (probably not much, but something) , maybe a remaster, maybe something small like a DLC for D3 with a new class or a mobile game.

They have 45 minutes, that is the same duration that the other (Non-WoW games) are mostly getting. The only thing they really did is mention they are "working on things, some big and small". Maybe they said you will find out about some stuff at Blizzcon, then the internet collectively jumps to OMFG DIABLO 3 CONFIRMED! I am glad they came out to say something, but man people overhype themselves over vague statements. They basically told us what we already know: There are multiple projects Diablo related in the works (We have known about 2 including the Diablo sequal for a couple years now)

I would love to see diablo 1 updated for newer systems. While sure, I do have my own CD and it does runs on my computer. It just looks weird, on it's tiny box within my screen. Stretching it seems like a worse idea.

But it's probably just going onto some consoles, like every other bloody game is doing these days. I doubt it could beat civ 6 going onto the mobile, that's just funny.

I think this is smart from Blizzard. Too much hype can be dangerous as people get way too much expectations, that will lead to only disappointments.

Blizzard isn´t doing new MMO´s anymore. So people just need to stop keeping their hopes up.

Blizzard will just officially announce the TV series of Diablo on Blizcon and that will be the highlight. That´s it.
Rest of Diablo focus will be to market the Nintendo Switch release and have it playable at the convention, since it releases the same day.

So they are definitely not going to announce Diablo 4 on Blizcon and as such destroy the Nintendo Switch release of Diablo III. Wouldn´t make any sense, since they want to milk as many pennies as possible out of the Nintendo Switch release.

Ohh Blizzard, masters of marketing. This most definitely means a HUGE announcement, how could it not be? It will only have more impact now. This totally confirms D4 in Q2 2019. Heard it here first folks.

"Diablo 4" or whatever name they choose in the end is 100% happening, only a matter of when they will announce it, but they have been actively working on this behind the scenes.

"World of Diablo" - nope, never been a thing period, remains something fans made up
When I said "way off," I meant only that Diablo 4 could be farther from release than we think.

"we do intend to share some Diablo-related news with you at the show"

Some.... the word "some" literally means nothing of importance. It will be negligent updates or something and possibly announcing that they are working on D4 which we can expect in 2020 or optimistically late 2019.

Honestly I'd be happy if this Blizzcon they announce the release of D2 and WC 3 remastered. At this point I've lost hope for a decent diablo game and WC 4 is out of the question it seems, so a remastered is(at least for me) the best thing I(we) can get.

Because watching all the usual fanatics blow a gasket over spurious self hyped nonsense is hilarious when even Blizzard feels they have to chime in and cool your jets before you hype yourselves to death.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive Diablo fan but feel after the fiasco that was Diablo 3 Blizzard has lost their touch with the franchise. It's going to take something pretty special to change that outlook and cynical me feels that the current Blizzard just isn't up to the task.

    Let me repeat:

Just because the topic has "diablo" in it's title, doesn't mean we need to hear about your love/hate relationship with it, or how Blizzard has forsaken you; especially since the actual topic is not about our opinions on the game franchise itself.

It's like replying to a Blizzard tweet stating "Maintenance on WoW has ended! Have fun!" with "I hate what you have done with the game!".

Hype up the Diablo fanbase all year with teasers, then once loads of people have spent 50 quid on a stream.... not a game but a stream about your games, in the hopes of getting news of something they really want, tell them "Nah fam, you aint getting it."

This kind of marketing is disgusting, but unfortunately we do not have any one to call them out on our behalf for this kind of shady practice.
