    Not directly boat related, but make a special effort to recruit yellow rarity mercenaries you encounter. Once you have 4 yellow Lts, boarding becomes trivial. I don't even go over anymore, I stand on the railing and shoot using spread shot while 4 monster Lt's leap over and beat them into submission. Easy peasy :)

    One thing you did not mention regarding the boarding of ships is that once completed it always heals up your ship, which is very much needed when you are outnumbered and fighting just to survive. It can very well mean the difference between taking out 3+ other ships or being sunk.

    One thing you did not mention regarding the boarding of ships is that once completed it always heals up your ship, which is very much needed when you are outnumbered and fighting just to survive. It can very well mean the difference between taking out 3+ other ships or being sunk.
    I've tried that a few times, but it usually leaves me in a bad position and surrounded by hostile ships once the boarding is done.  If I'm outgunned, that's typically meant dying.  On the other hand, sinking boats instead of boarding has let me kind of engage them mostly one at a time and thin the herd a bit.

    That said, probably has a lot to do with how you've configured your galley, too.
