The Shroud of the Avatar site's latest newsletter is out and about, this time with the news that Update 59 has landed on the QA server, most notably with the addition of the new tutorial area. The location is a "focused tutorial space" in the Isle of Storms that aims to provide players with the basics of many of the game's features. Once the tutorial area is complete, the newly minted character will land in one of three starter areas which are also to be updated.

Somebody around here apparently isn't doing their job.

It's the same philosophy I have about the characters I play in, for instance, WoW. I play them the way that I like and don't give a darn about the "FOTM" or the "best build".
It's not for everyone and that's great. Diversity in taste and enjoyment is what makes life worth living.

Further, the article that caused the issue from last week was bland and hardly worth the angst it seemed to create. *shrugs*

IMO if you are not 100% invested and serious, then you are not creating a game out of passion but to simply make a buck.
IDC who covers it,the internet is full of bias towards making $$$,it is everywhere, hardly even about gaming anymore.Point being does it really matter,i simply look at the game,it is a sub par effort.I would not feel immersed into the world, instead i would feel like i am playing a bunch of computer code.
The industry is trying to flood us with worse offering than this ,which is really sad,all thee ARPG's and the Baldur's gate lookalikes are all crappy efforts. However just because SOTA might be better than crap doesn't make it good enough to dive into looking for a open rpg with longevity.
Besides this developer already broke rule #1....cash shop, that is a complete turnoff for me.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Bland? I think a news about a well known game designer being no longer CEO of his own company is much more interesting than some revamping of a tutorial area...
Besides. The game has been officially released since March and is still in such a desolate state that many quests are broken and even the tutorial area is in such a shape that it needed revamping. Maybe THIS would be an interesting article. Writing about how the release of SotA went and that it is still extremely broken to date. THIS would be of interest to people who are looking to spend money on a new game.

He sure seemed passionate about his work, I'll give him that. It's too bad said work isn't of higher quality. I've no doubt you guys would be reporting on every little thing they fixed or added if the game was popular. That's just not the case.
His beef shouldn't be with the staff here, it should be with his development leads. The game's just not relevant, and that's incredible considering Garriott is associated with the project. 100 people on Steam does not, a readership, make.
